British Highschoolers Reunite! You’re going to Korean Military Service!!
All Korean men do Military Service, and over the years I've visited friends at their army bases, heard horror stories about how difficult boot camp is, and wondered what it would really be like.
The British High Schoolers have now graduated, and are the exact age that most Korean men go to boot camp. For the past few months we've been in contact with the Korean Navy, planning our most ambitious series yet.
We're taking the boys back to Korea, and this time they're going to the Korean Navy Boot Camp. We've been given permission to film the entire experience under one condition: we don't get any special treatment, everything is authentic. Little did we know this would be one of the hardest things we've ever done.

한국 남자라면 모두 거쳐야하는 과정이 있죠. 저도 제 친구들 면회도 가보고, 군대 이야기가 시작되면 시간가는 줄 모르고 서로 경험담을 주고받던 친구들을 보며, 실제로 군대를 가게 된다면 어떤 심정일지 궁금했었는데요.
저희 영국 고등학생들이 어느덧 졸업을 하고, 대부분의 한국 남자분들이 입대하는 나이가 되었어요. 그래서 지난 몇달간, 한국 국방부와 연락을 하며, 지금까지 중 가장 야심 찬 시리즈를 준비해왔답니다.
그리고 오랜 준비 끝에 드디어 학생들을 데리고 한국으로 돌아갑니다. 해군 신병교육대로 입대하는데요.
이때까진 몰랐습니다. 저희가 지금까지 해왔던 것 중 가장 힘든 과정이 저흴 기다리고 있을줄은요...

korean military training is. some korean show sometimes show glimpses. i swear they are crazy for their military training saw some "gas chamber" sh*t where they had to stay for really long but so many already felt like vomiting and fainting.

fr the navy is harder from what ive read and it takes longer to finish thats why idols who have to enlist rarely go on there 😅

He choose the Navy bc not a lot of people goes there since it's very tough but it also means that the process is faster and he wanted to enlist early so that he can go out early as well. He's the first Kpop idol to enter the Navy Military Band. Second to enter the Korean Navy (The first one is a member of Day6). Minho from SHINee was on the Marine Corps which is another branch of the Navy or smtg like that but not the same as Taeyong.

The amount of legistics and clearance Josh, Ollie, and the rest of the Korean Englishman crew had to have gone through to be able to film and train on an actual Korean Military base blows my mind. One minute I'm watching Josh introducing Korean food to athletes then the next thing they're training for combat. Bravo.

The way Harvey and Natti gasped right away after Josh mentioned about ‘every Korean man’ tho. It shows that they must have done some research about Korea after the trip back then. I’m impressed!
Not sure what it was like in the UK but a lot of the general public in America are aware of required military service in Korea. When BTS announced their hiatus to enlist, it was all over the news. The media here didn't know about that until then.

I’ve always said that I think every male in the US should have to do this when they turn 18. It made me look at everything in a different light and made me a better person.

@@Draven- I agree. Two or three years of mandatory service after high school. Kids that don’t take education seriously would get a wake up call during military service. Everyone would be trained to properly defend themselves as well via arms training. We would probably have less mass shootings and more responsible individuals in society.
Served 2 years after 10 months of training and I think it's a great thing to go through tbh. Going through such an uncomfortable environment as a man, woman or whatever you are, really opens your eyes to the horrible nature of life itself and it can either break you or shape you as an individual

What I'm saying is that they will be in a privileged position whichever path they decide to take. This is not the ordinary training, this UDT, one of the renowned special forces in South Korea. How KE pulled this one off, I struggle to fathom since training methods of special forces is a matter of national secrecy. I'm saying this as someone who served 16 years in the Australian military.

I genuinely just teared up, there is something so incredible about watching these boys grow up. The fact that they are open to learning, experiencing, and challenging themselves--beyond simply enjoying the 'tourist' attractions wow. I hope they can look back on these memories very fondly.

I don't know what to say, this absolutely crazy and epic. This for sure will change their lives and how they see life. And to think Korean boys have chance to go through this is commendable. I know it isn't easy, however I know it prepares them for life ahead because honestly life is tough. Kuddos to the young men because they aren't boys after this and thank you for being such brave human beings. Fighting!!

That army preview made me tear up. The fact that their parents and they all accepted to go through the military experience is absolutely incredible. It really is heartbreaking to see them all go through all that hardship even for a short time and even more heartbreaking to know that Korean men go through that for more than a year. Hope there wasn't any lasting physical damage to anyone and only mental and emotional growth from this experience.
I mean when your next door neighbor seems to want nothing more than to steamroll you like it was 1950, then you'd probably want everyone in fighting condition at some level/point too

How is the a unit of the Army involved in Army training? 🤔
@@kikilala9371 This is way different from what they did with the twins. The twins only did it for one day and most of it was just having fun and getting to know the soldiers. This one is the real deal. Their whole trip is based of going through what the Korean military does.
Korean tv does something similar every year, where they send a bunch of kpop performers and actors(male and female) on basic training. Check out "the real men" series

와.. 내 사촌동생들 그리고 내 예전 군대 1년 10개월 기다린 전남친 그리고 내 친구들이 다 이런 경험을 했다 생각하니 너무 맘이 아프고 한국남자들 대단하다 생각합니다.. 가장 혈기왕성하고 좋은 시절에 이런 고생을 ㅠㅠ.. 눈치빠르고 사회생활 잘하고 너무 대견했던 사촌동생이 안타깝게 너무 괴로워.. 말로 담지 못할 스스로를 하늘로 보내는 행동을 하는 바람에 공황장애로 진단.. 의가사 제대를 하였는데.. 정말 이렇게 눈으로 잠시만 봤는데도 맘이 너무 아프고.. 대한 아들들이 얼마나 고생했는지 느낌이 옵니다.. 존경합니다 군필자 남자 여러분들.. 이걸 다 경험한 제 핏줄 친척 그리고 지인들 좋은 기억만 선물해준 일년 십개월 기다렸던 십년 전 남친.. 그들에게 고마움과 축복만 보내고 싶네요.. 아직도 분단으로 75년 가까이 휴전중인 나라 사정으로 젊은이들이 이런 고통을 감내해야한다니.. ㅠㅠ .. 갔다와서 자유를 느끼던 전남친에게 서운했던 그 마음도 미안하고.. 있는동안 너무 좋은 선물 이쁜마음만 주었던 것만 생각나니 더 많은 선물도 보내주고 잘해줄걸 후회가 되네요.. 군 복무 기간을 더 줄이고 추가 봉급인상을 해도 모자랄 듯합니다.. 대한민국 모든 남자 화이팅!! 그리고 나라를 지키기 위해 노력하셨던 모든 분들.. 희생한 기간들 감사합니다. 정말로요

모든 남자들이 저 정도 강도를 하지는 않아요 ㅋㅋㅋ 훈련 하는거 보니 특수부대 같네요 유격이나 비슷한 강도로 훈련 합니다
일반 현역 신병 훈련은 저 정도가 기본인데요. 특수부대 훈련은 천리행군, 지옥주같은 말도 못할 과정이 포함되죠.
