Honda CX500 Scrambler build timelapse! This video shows start to finish of my latest creation which is this 1982 CX500 Custom. This bike was built for a customer who wants to do ADV rides with his friends all over the country. To meet these goals I focused on fuel capacity for a target 200 mile range, suspension to handle the various terrain, and gear carrying capability for all the necessities when traveling by motorcycle. Overall I feel this turned out fantastic and is an absolute BLAST to ride! Now I just need to build another one!

Thanks for checking out the video and I hope you enjoy! I love how this bike turned out with the challenges of the given budget, limitations of the stock bike, and the amount of fabrication I felt was necessary to make it functional. I know the bike may look subtle at first glance but you definitely get to see how much work went into it with this video. Again for those who want commentary or more info on the bike, I show that it the full videos as I build it. Simply hit the playlist to find all you are looking for. And motorcycles keep appearing on my page. And I don't have anything to do with them
Kindly use blade Guards to that Angle grinder. At my work place We had an incident when those blade/disc broke into two pieces. Top quality blades/disc were used, yet it broke. Be careful 😀
for an old engine, that is still prestine... thank you for this sharing this video, this is a masterpiece.
I truly appreciate your work,, a master😊 indeed!
God bless you!!..I'm 72 and have been planning to build a similar bike. I will save WEEKS of hassle, researching and who knows how long on "trial and error"!!..The reliability and expense of the CX, plus the fact that I have 2 already (traded for a pillar drill) makes this the best gift I have gotten in a very long time!!..Love your channel!!..Thank You!!!..👍👍👍🗽🇺🇸
A man who works with his hands and brain, is a craftsman. A man who works with his hands, his brain, and his heart is an artist. You sir, are an artist.
Thanks so much Steve 🙏🙏
The beauty of excellent craftmanship can never be appreciated enough
Thanks so much!
This is how a true fabricator works. Not just bolting a bunch of stuff on the bike. Awesome work!
Much appreciated! I enjoy the fabrication part

"scrambled egg"
I’m 65 could learn a lot from this young man!🇺🇸
🤘🤘
It took an amazing combination of imagination, experience and talent to pull that off. It is beautiful! Your welding skills are pretty sporty too. Way to go!
Thanks so much!
This build came out so freakin well man. Such a cool out of the box style build and purpose built build. I wish i was able to get super creative like this outside of what I’ve been doing. Definitely inspiration for future builds
Thanks dude! I. Happy it came together how it did
you can hear the valve rattling in the road test ..that is because all CX500s do not have a oil supply to the cam lobes so they grind off and trash the motor
It hadn’t trashed this motor.
From a basket case back to a fine high-quality motorcycle! What a piece of work. Respect.
Well thank ya much!
a masterpiece of design, construction and filming. loved it.
Thank you kindly 🙏
none of them have an oil supply to the cam lobes , what a masterpiece of junk
It is a shame that this channel does not have at least 6 times more subscribers, the level of knowledge and skills displayed is of the highest level
I do my best. Thank you
Fantastic build. I'm blown away by the level of attention to detail you put into it.
Thank ya much! Definitely sweated' the details
Hands down the most beautifully build scrambler out there...WOW, well done, Sir 👊🏼👍🏼
Much appreciated 🤘🤘
@@BrickHouseBuilds too bad there is no oil supply to the camshaft lobes ! i watch you grind down the cam lobes to hide the damage ..i am a certified Honda CX500 factory trained service tech and found the problem all cx500s have of no oil supply directly to the cam lobes and so every one of them will fail ..in 1982 i was to rebuild a CX500 per work order . it was the first one to rebuild in our shop since 1975 when they came out ..and everyone of them had rattling valve train after the first 1000 mile check up that could not be adjusted out of it ..the valve clearance was 0.003" exhaust and 0.002 intake and still with this hammering sound inside ..and when i opened one up for the first time it was obvious what the problem was as this had about 37,000 miles on it and the cam lobes were almost gone with gray metal dust all around the inside of the cases cooked on hard and dry of any oil ...Harold Brown was our mid west american honda service rep who just so happened to be in the shop that day when i opened the CX500 cases ..so i said , hey brownie we called him , come take a look as this .. brownie had never said a negative word to me in the 8 years working with him ..and that he came unglued on me telling me to shut up about it that why we dont make them anymore i said what about all the people buying them and putting major bucks building cafe racers out of them ..and harld brown said that is their tough luck
@@donniebaker5984 I saw and replied to your same comment earlier as well. These weren't grooved.
This is going to be my Go-To video for the CX500 Ive been working on for the past two years. Thanks for all your hard work in the filming. It was so good to see it in real world situations. You live in a beautiful part of the world. Greetings from Sydney, Australia. Keep up the inspiring work BJ!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. As mentioned if you want to see more on any part of the build, I have a full video on how to do it.
all cx500s do not have any oil supply to the cam lobes did you watch this video were he grinds off the damage to the cam lobes on a bench grinder ..now that got to be accurate as can be done on a hand grinder what skill is that ? hehehe and i still does not correct the major problem of NO OIL TO THE CAM LOBES . i am a certified CX500 factory trained service tech ..and when i told the american honda mid west service rep what i found major wrong of the oil problem, he told me to shut up
What an amazing build and craftsmanship. Well done!
Thank you!
This is not a motor build timelapse, it's art, I love it 😍😍😍😍
Haha thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!!
loved watching this dude! such a beefy bike. cannot wait to see this!
Glad you enjoyed! Unfortunately this bike likely won't be here for the open house but the white CX will!
Wow great job a few people watching this video have no idea how much time you have building this bike great skills and talent and you have both thanks for letting us see it come to life
Thanks so much! I feel like it's easy to miss how many details went into this one with how subtle it is.
降るかも?
Just incredible! Love all the small touches that go into these builds.
Thank you! This one took many details to come together
Some of us are doers and some of us are watchers. I always thought I was a doer but this build makes me feel like a watcher. Good job.
Haha I feel that too when I watch some people so you aren't alone! Thank ya though!
Any late 70's to late 80's Honda is an engineering masterpiece. Great build!
Much appreciated!
Really satisfying build and video. Always fun watching you engineer all the stuf and putting in the work. Keep going!
Thank ya much!
Beautifully done BJ! Absolute inspiration, thanks for building, filming and sharing 🫶👏👏
Many thanks Jeron!
A real Genius! Thanks, I’ll have mine Scrambled!
🙏🙏
Keeping the craftsman alive and well. Type a guy the neighborhood kids come ask "hey sir can you fix this for us?" And he walks into the shop staring at the part in his hands the whole time. ❤ "I think we can figure this out. Come have a seat." And the happy kid left having learned something about life and mechanics possibly even starting them on their passion for doing the same one day. Our neighborhood machinist and engineers name was Mr. Keith. He kept a beautiful sailboat at our dock.. thanks for this video...really, thank you.
I'm always open to helping those kids! Just helps inspire!
I can feel a definite sway towards this type of machine. Anyone who's been on a dirt road on a touring bike can understand why. I would love to be able to hit the trail. Without having to trailer a vehicle to and from the trail head. You are an incredible mechanic. I hope things are working out for you, you certainly deserve it. I'm always impressed with the quality of work coming out of a small shop. It proves , it ain't the shop it's who's in it . I never realized how much stamped metal Honda uses in their production of their motorcycles. I've been hopelessly addicted to two wheels since I was a little boy. Everything about them brings me joy and keeps me young. Stick with it kid! There are great things in your future. I've watched a ton of resto rebuild videos and you are the best by far. Camera clarity and focus and position . Music choice narration it's all broadcast quality. I think the adventure bike is about to explode like Harleys did back in the early 2000s. I hope you can benefit from it. So quit reading comments and get to work on that next project,I'll be watching! Thanks.
Well thats very kind thank you! Adventure bikes are more popular than ever right now as you can just go anywhere! Simply the best
Adventure bikes are popular for the same reason Jeep’s are. Adventure, from your driveway and back again.
What an amazing build. I was wondering why it was you converted the rear wheel from a 16" to the 17"? Ground clearance? Tire availability? That was a clever idea and well done. I do not have the skills of tools or strength to pull off a transformation such as this, but boy I do like that motorcycle now as a "scrambler!"
Thank you. Correct both ground clearance as well as tire selection were the reasons for the change.
That's what I love about old school Japanese motorcycles. You can customize and modify them in hundreds of ways.
Definitely true!
This man is a real craftsman. True respect. Job well done.
Thats very kind Keith thank you
This bloke has just the right amount of tools for this type of project and a serious amount of mechanical and engineering talent to pull it off. Hats off to you.
Much appreciated!
Amazing work. Thanks for taking the time to film and share it.
What a great job you done with the build.........a "Posh Dirt Bike" and a go anywhere bike.
Thanks Ollie!
I love all the videos that u share here on KZhead
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them
You are clearly very talented, I am amazed at your skills and design.
Thank you vey much!
I use to have CX500. The only reason I gave it up was because of the CDI problems. Now I see an alternative. Mind blown.
The CDI bikes definitely had a couple problems but the TI bikes from late 81 on were great. Glad you enjoyed
very well build and very high level of craftmanship
Thanks so much!
Just starting out this morning watching and it’s amazing just how far your shop has come. Starting this build prior to painting, to today, having a separate shop space.
It's wild to see!
This build was so inspiring to watch. You just keep getting better and better!
Thank you! Much appreciated!
will serve you for thousands smiles and miles......very nice ...thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed!
Breathed new life into that old beast. Well done!
Thank ya!
You're a very talented dude, fun to watch all the metal fab
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed 🙏
Absolutely beautiful bike! Great build and video!
Thank you!
So cool seeing it all come together. Great job man, turned out amazing
Thanks dude! Literally couldn't have done it without ya
whole lot of work and love, no one would ever imagine the CX could go there
Glad to show they can!
Exhaust note sounds great. Shouldn't upset anyone either.
Exactly! Needs to be subtle enough to not disturb out in the wild
FanTAStic build. I would LOVE to own this bike !
Thank you!
Vermont's stunning wilderness and your amazing technique brought an old Honda ohv motorcycle back to life as a Scrambler Impressed 🌲🍀🔧🍀🌲
Im actually in Missouri but the plate was from a previous Vermont registration
Stunning work! Was mesmerized watching such craftsmanship in action. Just fantastic!
Thanks so much!
You have a great fabricating mind. Not many people can Invision a project as complicated as this bike. Excellent results.
Thank you much!
Fantastic job. Well done!
Thank you!
Love the build. Good job.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Always awesome to watch you work and this bike is just beautiful...great job!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed
Enjoyed this one. Thanks for recording your time. There are those who build, then those who build and record and share.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!

Really great build, and work. It also looks like a fun bike to ride. Awesome content!!!
Thanks so much! Very fun to ride
Really cool build, great work as always!
Thanks so much!
awesome build, looks like it left the factory that way!
Thank you!
I click onto this because a ‘79 Honda CX 500 custom was my first very first mode of transportation when I turned 16 in 1986. For four years it was my ride until I totaled it in an accident. I loved that bike, and I’ve always wanted to get another and restore it. It would basically be an every now and then ride, bit i I want one just the same. It was, and they are fantastic bikes, being shaft driven for that year of bike was a bit ahead of it’s time. It was also liquid cooled, which was basically unheard of then, and made it essential for those hot California summers splitting lanes on the freeways. 😏 ahh the good ol days. 😎 Oh yeah, great bike build man. 👍🏻
Glad it brought some good memories back. Happy you enjoyed the video
You got it right. Really sweet machine you put together. ENJOY AND RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
Much appreciated Henry!
You made a really cool bike, now I will go back to see the entire series. Who’d thought the Constar wheels would be so adaptable!
Pretty much legos!
What a rad build. I love it!
Much appreciated 🙏
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels
And I only found it two days ago
The Kool aid is working 😎
Great build!
Thank you!
Nice bike man, great work, love to see these build videos.
Thanks!
Excellent job 👍
Thank you!
Loved every second! Great video!
Glad you enjoyed!
Maybe just start building your own bike company ground up cuz your metal work skills and creativity is immense. Very fun to watch you make the custom metal parts start to finish wow. Insane. So beautiful 😢😂😂❤❤ brings a tear to my 👁️
Thank ya. This is my company and what I do full time
If you want to adapt this engine to an ultra-light aircraft, gimme a shout.
As a backyard fabricator myself, I have never been so impressed!
I built a CB 550 into a scrambler 40 years ago. Of all the machines I've owned and ridden, none are as versatile or all around useful. Street capable, basic off road capable, it was unequaled. Not for motocross, lol. But just ridiculously practical, I still think of that in comparison to more modern units. Your build is a lot more careful than mine was. It's a beauty.
You are definitely right because you managed your expectations on what the bike can and will do! Some say this cx is a terrible idea to take offroad but I think those people have the wrong idea of what the bike needs to do.
@@BrickHouseBuilds I think the CX is a great platform. Well done!!!
Nailed it Dude. It's got chunk.
🤘🤘
Great build! The amount of work into the welding/body work is amazing.
Thank you much!
The sound, the looks..ITS FREKEN SICK!
Thank ya!
Fantastic job!
Thank you!
I’m transforming my ‘99 Honda shadow 600 deluxe into a cross-country scrambler, but gradual steps. I started riding motorbikes as a six year old on stadium motor cross dirt trails, before all the X-Games stuff. Can’t get dirt biking out of my blood, hence the 600 transformation. I’ve even got a name for the transformation. I’ll have to take her on the journey to Missouri. Great work, brother.
That will be epic sir! Much luck with the build!
Loved that build ,amazing 👌🏼
Glad you enjoyed!
Incredible work & very cool background soundtrack!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the chill soundtrack
Great build, brilliant film and fantastic soundtrack. Awesome. Thanks
Thank you much! Glad you enjoyed!

Love the CX500 engine, one of Honda's all time greats. This build is quite inspiring!
It's a fun little powerplant for sure! Glad you enjoyed
Man, that was satisfying to watch and I love the final product!! You've got serious skills!! Thanks for sharing your efforts!
Well I'm happy you enjoyed! Was a fun bike to build!
Good looking bike, It sounds amazing, Great job on the build.
Thank you! I love the sound as well. The muffler ended up being a great choice
Very, very nice build.
Thank you much!

That was an awesome build from one of my favorite, classic Hondas!!! Great job!!!
Glad you enjoyed!
You do amazing work! Totally enjoyed watching this video. What an awesome motorcycle.

Thank ya!
Absolutely brilliant from every aspect
Thank ya Dave!
Great Build, looks really good.
Thanks so much!
Awesome editing and tunes. The king of the CX.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed
awesome process and custom build!
Thank you!
DUDE. I love everything about this video. Definitely gets me excited to do my own fab work. I still have my new welder sitting in its box. I know it took a lot of time and effort to build it and it's no surprise BikeEXIF picked it up. You're KILLING IT! Congrats man. Awesome job.
Thank ya much Ashton! A welder in a box is still a step forward from no welder at all. Once you have your shop set up im sure you will put it to good use! There are so many great welders out there to get pointers from when the time comes
Absolutely fabulous! I had a CX500, CX500 Custom and then a Silver Wing back in the day. I loved that engine - absolutely bullet-proof! Now in my older age, I'm thinking of downsizing to a 500ish ADV bike and this video literally made me lick my lips! You're an absolute master craftsman.
Well thank ya! I've been hearing great things about the new cb500x if that's the market you are after.
great build👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed!
One of most interesting engine/transmission combos by Honda, and what a beautiful and meticulous work of restoring not only to it's former glory, but to a whole new life and purpose! BRAVO!!!
Thanks so much!
I dare to say, you make the best restoration videos ever 👌
Well I appreciate that 🙏
That is awesome transformation and a great build video.
Thank you!
Looks and sounds really good. Nice job.
Thank ya!
Really Great work 👍👍
Thank you very much 🙏
