  • Another beautiful painting with fabulous commentary. My one complaint... stop apologizing for your camera, microphone, or having your arm in the way. Treat the negative comments the same way you do the ones about a sky only being blue or talking “too much”. You are allowing us to see your technique, allowing us into your world. We are privileged guests! Yes, the negative nellies can sod off.

    • I can't see why they bother, and don't just move on. Becoming unbearable on some fronts to read comments and have a sensible conversation. When I hear such talented people apologizing for the camera, the mic, or not being Hollywood, it just saddens me. I still cringe every time I see a new comment pop in my email for an old video. My apologies to everyone for ranting on here tonight, but the complaints regarding free, expert content frosts me.

Eons ago in a college art class we were given the assignment of doing a landscape of the view outside the classroom. I think we used crayons. I decided to make the sky a yellowish color. The teacher gave me an A.

  • I often paint while watching your vids , Stuart. Sometimes I paint what you’re showing us, but more and more I find myself just listening to your tutorials no matter what I’m painting. Your voice soothes me and your instructions inspire me, keep me on track. Right now, using acrylics, I’m painting a woman in the sky shaped to the bust rising among clouds one of which is shaped like a huge cracked egg; she’s holding two doves and myriads of birds are flying around her. Thanks to you, it’s going beautifully. I love your works and your videos. Thanks so much ch for making all available to us. 🙏🏼⛈🌞

  • ..i like how you push paint around..been pushing paint around myself for going on 61-62 years...parents said i was born with a brush in my hand..lol..close..it was one of my dads pencils....so, they gave me a watercolour set along with my first box of crayons..and a colouring book, for my 2nd birthday..then promptly forgot about me...so..i left the book on the table & took my supplies & a fistfull of paper towels out to the porch..where i proceeded to create a masterpeice on the glass of the door (i had that idea when i used to draw in the frost & mum would use paper towels to wipe it away)....a few hours later they found me...mum said, well..at least it wasn't the walls..dad however...was..thrilled..he took pictures...and would not let anyone touch it for months...it dissolved literally overnight when the weather turned colder.....life is strange, enit

  • Beautiful painting again ... and the talking is a huge part of your videos... while many people on YT have jarring voices, poor grammar, and/or rattle on inanely about nothing... you certainly do not!!! I usually watch your videos twice in quick succession and then a third time a few days later. My first watch is with the sound off just for the pure enjoyment of seeing a painting emerge like magic... it also makes me aware of what I don't know/understand... the ''why did he do that?'' phase if you like. Second is definitely sound on, and that's when those ''Ah! That's why he did that!'' moments happen. For me then, the 3rd time without sound is for pure relaxing enjoyment, but it's also where I find out if I have remembered and understood exactly why, what, how you achieved your beautiful painting. Haters are going to hate; critics are going to criticise; but ''quite frankly my dear, I don't give a damn'' about them... and nor should you!!! Massive thanks for sharing your knowledge and artistry. :)

  • Whenever I am in the mood to paint, for a while now, I listen/watch to your videos. I usually prefer an artsy movie with a dark atmosphere when I paint, mostly for the inspiring "noise", with the occasional peek, but lately I enjoy hearing you talk about everything in your videos, from the much needed advice, to the little funny stories from art school. Painting is a hobby since I was young, so I'm always looking for new ways to learn more. Thank you for teaching and inspiring me! ❤

You sir are a very talented artist, and a person whom can convey concepts quite easily through plain ole speech (something easier said than done...no pun intended). I, for one, greatly appreciate you sharing with the world your art and the procedures that you use, and most importantly, why you use them. • Keep doing what you are doing. I am sure there is a lot of us watching that don't know everything and your teaching through speech helps us understand why you are doing. To just watch someone paint you miss the reasoning and understanding behind the painting I might be wrong but I think that is what teaching really is. Also the knowledge you have learned over the years is priceless. God Bless.

  • Mr. Davies I am thrilled to find your videos. This one reminds me of "one" of my own favorite skies that often appears over North America, when a particularly violent storm clashes with a completely clear sky. This happens over the northern Great Plains of both the US and Canada during tornado season in the spring. The storm clouds will be the most intense, seething mix of dark gray, black, and purple, absolutely malevolent looking, yet with a distinct, sharp border separating the storm from a clear blue, bright sunny sky next to it. Otherwordly looking! BTW, as to your talking - heavens no, please continue to do so. I find that often a teacher will just casually mention a really important or valuable concept or trick, without even meaning to, because of context. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us.

Though I am not an oil painter myself, it interests me, and much of what you teach can be applied to other forms of art. You're one of my favorite teachers on youtube :)

Applause for the method of presentation, voice editing adds value since you're able to discuss the process as it unfolds, easily missed while creating art. About those who say that skies can only be blue with white or grey clouds: they never been out and never looked at skies especially at sunrise and sunset and they’ve never put their eyes on paintings by Turner, Dali, Constable, Monet and hundreds of other masters. A sky can be literally any hue on the colour wheel. Same about clouds

Watching you paint however, and listening to your commentary imbues in me an almost hypnotic state, ( a familiar feeling as I am an advanced hypnotherapist), and none of the fear of getting involved and making a mess of it. I am simply drawn toward starting. Cant start yet, packed everything up prior to moving on the 25th. But really consciously looking forward to the summer, painting. Can not believe it. Thankyou so much Stuart. I am going to spend the time between now and my move sourcing oil paints etc, (not so easy here in Cyprus), as I dont have a great deal of oil paint, and it is apparent I need to source some chefs brushes lol. As for the ppl complaining about p's and b's and pops, well that's due to inferior headphones. Your voice is quite soothing to listen to and it helps as we follow whilst you're painting. (As you would say if that makes any sense). That's half the reason, for me anyway, why I enjoy your videos, and your shoulder is hardly an obstruction. If ppl wish to complain they can either turn the volume off of they can tap the little X at the top of the screen. PLEASE DON'T CHANGE A THING!

  • Thank you for the demonstration of sky painting. I love the calm way you comment on what you are doing. Actually, I know that your shoulder is in the way sometimes, but it is not bothersome at all. To me, it is as if I were standing right next to you, slightly behind you, and looking over your shoulder as you work the canvas. It is so natural that, had you not pointed it out, I would never have given it any closer thought. I hope you'll never change that way to show how you work! I dabble in painting, whenever the paint bug bites me. That can happen out of the blue sky, lol. My medium could be anything, it depends what I have been thinking about when the inspiration struck me. It can get quite unconventional at times... that is part of the fun! When the "attack" is over, I put the brush down and nobody knows when I get back to it the next time... it could take years! Strange thing that.... I have a feeling that watching you work there will trigger a painting streak in me soon! Thanks for that!

  • Thank you for telling us that you don't use thinners and odorless paints. I've hesitated to pick up oil painting for health concerns.

Gracias maestro.
