Catching big fish from a small boat close inshore is the pinnacle of fishing for me. Using light tackle on Mackerel and big Trevally is super satisfying! The inshore fishing off Townsville is perfect for this experience. Thanks for watching, please like and subscribe -

  • We can all learn something of this bloke ,you don't need a flash boat to catch fish.

    • Totally agree, knowledge is far more important than expensive toys, in life.

  • G'day mate. You see other blokes holding up fresh caught fish still with the lure in its gob, they hold it up like you did and next thing there both joined at the lure. Ya' gotta' learn. Dong the bastard first before the happy snap and brag photo. Bloody nice GT on light gear, well fought. The scream is a nice sound though isn't it. Another great show. Your doin' a good job mate.

    • I actually broke my own rule to remove the lure before holding it up to the camera. I was lucky on this occasion! The emotions of hooking, landing or losing a good fish will never grow old for me. Thanks for your comment it is greatly appreciated.

    • Glad the video brings back a few memories! I was very fortunate I didn’t wear a set of hooks or mackerel teeth in my hand. There is still plenty of good fishing easily accessed from a small boat in North Queensland. Thanks for watching!

  • Fantastic video, gives me hope that I can start catching fish out there. I'm only new to fishing around Townsville. Ive tried middle reef a couple of times with little success but ill see how I go with this upcoming bought of good weather. Id love to get some pointers but I know that's not going to happen. Once again, fantastic video and tight lines!

    • Thanks for your positive feedback. My tip for fishing Middle Reef area would be to use a light leader no heavier than 40 pounds when bait or lure fishing. Good luck with your fishing!

  • I missed this one, you proved an incredible point that so many miss in saying I was outgunned and never had a chance when the truth is you can stop so big fish by staying mobile and the fight is not done until it's done so you have to keep working the drag but not exceeding it like so many do. So how do grey mackerel eat compared to their other cousins and which one do you prefer? I like a lot of trevallies so what does that one eat like? Cheers Garry

    • Too true, loosening the drag when a fish has pulled lots of line from the reel is important to avoid loosing the fish. This is necessary due to the diameter of the spool being reduced and increasing the drag pressure. I personally think Grey Mackerel are of great eating quality and on par with the Spanish Mackerel. When it comes to eating Trevally I definitely prefer the Golden Trevally. Thanks for your questions and comment!👍
