I was walking toward my friends. At one point the crowd was thick, so I had to walk on the side of the hill. It was a setup. Somebody baby oiled all the way down the hill. I started sliding on my feet with my cooler rolling behind me and a beer in the other hand. I knew I was going to fall down and be covered in oil. I was getting more and more pissed off by the second. I knew my night was ruined. It must've been quite the scene. I could hear the people at the top ooooOOO, oooOOOO each time I nearly lost my balance. I was so pissed off, I knew I was going to chug a few beers and go(try to) kick somebody's ass covered in baby oil. There must've been 300 people watching. When I made it to the bottom, still, somehow, on my feet, I turned around pissed off, and the people started hooting, and hollering, cheering, and clapping. I chugged the beer in my hand, opened my cooler, then smashed another one. Round 2 of cheering started, except way more intensely. I was no longer pissed off, I felt amazing. . . . This felt like the right place to share that story.

My professor actually showed us this video in business school! Arguing that the first guy to join him, might be the most important, as he normalizes the behavior of the dancing, therefore creating a whole “organization” around it - as more people join, this becomes the new normal, suddenly making people feel that they’re missing out if they don’t join them - so interesting

That's how society works, it's the nature of the beast sometimes!!!!!!!!!, all it takes is 1 person to do the opposite to what everyone else is doing and be different, then the second guy joins him either mockingly or supportingly, and it usually takes off from there, depending on the mood of the people of the time

Note how all the early dancers are men. It is actually confirmed that men are more nonconformist than women (see Wikipedia article on conformity).

Well put
Poetry
All you need is the commitment of The crowd.
We’ve also learned someone can go from crazy man to President.
It takes to dance
The first three guys lack of fear gave everyone else courage.
Absolutely HE WAS GONNA DO THIS REGARDLESS OF THE CROWD AND OBLIVIOUS 2 THE CAMARA.. SWELL DUDE..
The third guy seemed to really be doing it because he wanted to dance. Guy #2 was mocking guy #1, and didn’t count on the fact that guy #1 took the song to heart. If the band knew what they were doing, they would have played that song another 20 times.
Corona Pyrrhus that’s just human nature for ya. We have to see someone else do it to realize it’s okay for us. We all want to fit in, and not be out of place, so we join in when others do because we realize it’s okay if others are doing it too

Uh this obviously took two because no one else would’ve joined in till guy #2

Dreymon Green Thank you. I was being serious guy #2 obviously set it off! He jumps in after 22 seconds but guy #3 doesn’t show up for almost a full minute. Obviously the crowd felt shirtless man was a bit much but guy #2 makes it all ok for guy #3 and then the world joins in. Concert dynamics 101
Dreymon Green Guy #1 is possibly high enough to make it happen sans oxygen but you’d still be right because a lone person does not constitute a party 😢
But what if, hear me out, what if the first 2 dudes started docking instead of dancing? Would prob be a whole different kind of party.

Mans single handedly changed the energy of the concert and of course, gotta give guy #2 the credit he deserved for amplifying guy # 1s energy.
Guy #3 really helped too, clearly was just having fun and being self depricating rubbing his belly and twerking which let the sheep think "well at least i won't be the silliest looking dancer if i join and it looks fun".

Within seconds it became weird and uncool to dance alone to all of a sudden weird and uncool to NOT dance. And all it takes is a few daring people.
@McFlickers the 3rd guy too!
and in the end it was cool again to stay on the grass when everyone else had joined the dance. great example of social behavior.
My professor showed this in a business class to talk about the power of conformity. Perfect example.
No just one confident man
By 1:20 it is no longer cool, it's just people copying a trend.
We watched it in psychology classes I business school as well :)

I did the same in france two years ago. There was an amazing queen cover band and it was such a pain to see how everybody was just sitting down and doing nothing but watch. This just shows you how much people WANT to be themselves, but need validation first. As soon as another person joins in, it's now socially acceptable.
Its rather sad isn't it ?
@Zac Ariah It's entirely true. People are, in general, much too worried about their own image to do what they want. Once it's suddenly acceptable the herds show up.
I call it 'mass-effect' the more people do it, the more likely others will join. It works in a debate. When you're the only one standing up for an idea, alone, you're likely to just leave for the other side
