I converted my Ford Tourneo Connect van into a micro camper. This DIY camping box has ample storage room and a pull out drawer with dedicated cooking area, so we are ready for road trips, weekend getaways, and simply live a bit of the van life.
The camper box also fits cars like the VW Caddy, Citeron Berlingo, Renault Kangoo, measuring 193 x 112 x 36 cm when it is folded out.
Enjoyed the video? Don't forget to give it a thumbs up and subscribe for more innovative DIY projects. Happy viewing! The plans are a variation based on a camperbox by GVM corner!

  • I built a very similar box except I split the bed portion into 2 seperate foldout sections. I can remove both seats or just one depending on whether I need a double or single bed. Bravo, very nice job!

  • The one thing wrong with a great many of these conversions is they don't have anywhere to sit when the bed is made, a space to put your legs over the side to get dressed/undressed or have a piss in the middle of the night? I did see a very clever micro van conversion in Japan where a section of the bed was removable creating a footwell so the guy could cook wash dress eat etc in relative comfort, not have to do everything on your knees!

  • Looks fantastic very well done, what size screws did you use for the wood and also the piano hinges please

    @gone-in-sixty-seconds8617@gone-in-sixty-seconds86173 ай бұрын
    • I bought long piano hinges 20mm width, I believe the screws were 3.5cm long. Regarding the hinges, if I'd do it again, I might go for some more heavy duty hinges and inset them. The long & thin piano hinges are quite flimsy and really require all the screws to hold it there.

  • Hey can I ask what the far end of the platform is supported by when it is folded out for the bed? I assume the chairs are down or removed but is there just empty space under where your head rests or does that board/panel sit on something? Thanks.

    @lunkhead57@lunkhead574 ай бұрын
    • I like to think of it as having three parts, all with separate support systems. The first part, closest to the rear door, is supported by the box itself. The second part (which in a future build I'd have the joint resting on the box as well), is supported by the seats. I also throw a long rectangular piece under the joint between the 2nd and 3rd part, so that it rests evenly and distributes the weight a bit better on the seating backs. The third part is then held up by very thin climbing cord, you can go with 3 or 4mm thick. Simply thread it through the last slat and go under and around so the cord isn't pulling from underneath your mattress, then you can tie it off either in the seat-belt pillar loop / anchor ring, or directly on the metal posts from the front-seat head rests. If you know your way around knots, you can make a sliding one that then allows you to easily adjust the angle of this piece too. Good luck!

    • We have rear windows which kip open slightly, and if it's really cold I'll usually just unlock them and that leaves a small slot that does the trick.

  • Amazing work! May I ask what is that piece (min. 6:50) between the first two blocks of the upper part for? Is it to load the weight better? Why don't you join the two big blocks directly? Maybe it's a stupid question but I'm new to these things 😊

    @enricociccarelli1127@enricociccarelli11273 ай бұрын
    • If you look at the fold-out (07:13), that small piece allows the sections to stack on top of one another and then fold out into one flat piece. The folding out section 3, we could call it, is sitting on section 1. The added small piece gives the depth so that the pieces are still flat. Hope that makes sense. Just watch the video clip a few times and I think you'll see what I mean. :)

    • Suuuure, now I got it 😅 I thought it was something to make it more 'functional' but it actually is for the sizes! One more thing, may I ask you if the hinges to join the openable pieces are specific ones? Can I buy them online? Or are they commons? Thanks!!

    • Hey there! Just write your email in the paypal comment, and "camper box plans". Then I can send them to you directly, or even give the link over paypal chat. The membership is just kind of like a Patreon through KZhead, some people choose to support creators this way. You can find that if you subscribe and then click "join" on my profile, you'll see some options with perks etc. For those who are members, they can essentially deduct the membership fee from the price of the plans. Hope that helps!

    @Kutuz66@Kutuz663 ай бұрын
    • No, but necessary for the way this is built. If you predrill the holes you will be more successful. Alternatively, use a different hinge mechanism. If I built it again, I would inlay different hinges... Because you're right, this is the weakest part of the build.
