  • This man is an amazing educator. If all of my college professors had the ability to teach or explain their subject matter to me the way this guy does, I would’ve excelled in my studies! I feel I’m somewhat intelligent, I’m not an idiot, but I have a difficult time retaining information and that makes book learning a frustration. I actually understood and LEARNED everything he said. He held my attention on a subject where not much background interest exists. I love these kinds of reports but the “why” and “how” has always eluded me. I just want to know the outcome. Well, this guy changed all that for me, at least in this interview. It has me excited to know that I’m ABLE to retain as long as the materials are presented to me in a way that’s interesting and explained with examples, therefore making it easily understood for me. Wow! I’m impressed.

    @summer4008@summer4008 Жыл бұрын
    • The hardest part of retaining what's learned from book-learning is the lack of context. Tell me how this knowledge is useful and can be applied in real life. High school Trigonometry was hard for me, and I really liked math. But it was hard to conceptualize. So during a long lecture one day, I rose my hand & pointed at the formula problem on the board he was solving. And I asked the teacher what the formula was used for. The teacher was very confused by my question. He had no answer. Years later, I learned that Issac Newton is credited for inventing trigonometry to explain the the orbits of objects in our solar system. It would have made a huge difference to us students if he told us this rather than cussing at me in Swahili. On a positive note: That day in math class, I did learn that "Jumbo" is a Swahili word meaning "large".

I remember reading this story and looking up the path the object flew and reading about its reflective surface and to me this is one of the most significant pieces of evidence we have of something not made on earth and probably not naturally occurring. If you have seen millions of rocks and frozen rocks and all of a sudden here comes a piece of sheet metal and it follows a non normal path and under its own propulsion you would have a lot of questions but I think a lot of people didn't really care about this story or its significance.

      @DMTInfinity@DMTInfinity3 жыл бұрын
    • @@DMTInfinity I know what science is and the science has yet to show any proof of aliens being real. Pseudoscience is not proof. UFO's aren't even proof of aliens since ufo is just an unidentified object which doesn't necessarily mean it's an alien either. Science even shows that there's no planets within 100 light years of our own galaxy possible of sustaining life on it so show me some type of science that shows it's possible to move faster than the speed of light and also show me that there's some type of place close to earth capable of sustaining life and show me the science of how these so called extraterrestial lifeforms can travel over 100light years with unlimited fuel and food source. Where are they getting this fuel from and what is their food source? basically science has searched for all sorts of irregular energy patterns which could indicate life outside of earth but there has been none of these energy patterns to prove life outside of earth of any type of alien spaceship. As you'd know to travel faster than the speed of light would require a huge amount of energy especially for 100 light years so that would easily be measured when searching for energy patterns and same with any alien type of city or planet. Clearly you don't know what science is since plenty of scientists have debunked aliens already

      @GrowingDownUnder@GrowingDownUnder3 жыл бұрын
  • Absolutely Brilliant, the fact that the object makes scientists uncomfortable shows that they only are expecting known outcomes from current theories and are not looking outside the box. They take new unexpected discoveries as to be shunned if it does not conform to known science.

The odds are greater that there is life out there. I thought scientists were supposed to see a situation and then do experiments or deductions until they come up with an answer. Not like wind resistance we think of on earth, but it will still be affected by changes to it's mass and therefore velocity. However! Thinking about the way most of deep space is empty, I would imagine particles form on the rock as it goes, H, He, Ca random stuff. Perhaps as the comet is getting closer to earth, these particles are being warmed at different temperatures and thus as it gets closer the more it loses. Not sure if they have run the calcs on this but it is an armchair idea

  • I wish there were more scientists like Avi Loeb, his open minded investigative approach should be the benchmark for all scientific research.

    @MegaDadH@MegaDadH Жыл бұрын
    • open minded? he is saying things to gain popularity on the internet and get more money in his pockets. Science is not like the History channel, They are not going to start talking about UFO's and Ancient Aliens just because it gets more attention, brings in more views and generates more money.

      @Ts0usermax@Ts0usermax Жыл бұрын
    • It's great to have scientists who approach their research with an open mind, however, it's also important to maintain the rigor of the scientific method and avoid jumping to conclusions without proper evidence. In the case of Dr. Loeb, while his research output is impactful, some of his colleagues have criticized him for his premature speculation and the media attention it generated without sufficient evidence to support his claims. This could be seen as detracting from the credibility of the scientific community and creating false hopes or misunderstandings. It's important to keep in mind that science is a collaborative effort, and by following the scientific method and carefully reviewing each other's work, we can maintain its integrity and advance our understanding of the world.
