Stuck in the E92 M3! - Summer Tires VS Snow Storm
I put off swapping to Snow Tires one day too long. On my way home from a podcast taping the weather unloaded and put the PS4S to the test. Thankfully two strangers in a Honda Civic jumped into action to push the ill equipped M3 up the slippery hill without missing a beat.

SO Thankful to these two strangers for jumping into action. Do you think it's "Steven" or "Stephen" ? And thank you to the incredible Patreon Supporters for making this content possible.
There's only one correct answer - Stephen!
Your cup holder works u should be thankful .
@@saucyp123 do you want to fight me
is your car rear wheel drive?
Good to know I wasn’t the only one sliding around like an idiot yesterday
haha i turned into the people I hate. gotta mount up the Vredestein Wintrac Pro's this week
Lol first snow here in ny, I got 20 feet out of the driveway and had to turn around... it took 30 mins just to drive 40 feet all together lol. Had to change my tires the next day.
Yeah I was going to take my summers off and put winters on, but I didn't realize that stock lugs don't fit :(
All-seasons are not where it’s at
Did notice in the U.S, a lot of people in SUVs love saying they don't need winter tyres because they have AWD or 4WD.....
Yep! I live in Idaho and have a suburban with BF Goodrich t/a KO2's- these tires in the snow are insanely good. In the past 4 weeks I've seen 5 trucks get stuck due to having highway tires on their rigs. Makes a huge difference.
Which is totally not true
Is it true that the snow tires wear out quicker? I'm trying to plan a trip, but not sure if the tires are a worthy investment.
@@tevinabeysekera6038 usually the case, but definitely need snow tires in snow. Summers won't do. All seasons possibly if it's just light snow
@@rubbertoe. Thank you
RWD Car + Snow without TC is essentially the same as a Hellcat on dry pavement.
Lmao
But in slow motion
But… RWD + snow + WINTER TIRES > AWD + snow without winter tires.
Only this is less likely to crash
But you can say a lot oh shit shit shit before you hit the wall xD
this is awesome content, would love to see more this upcoming winter
For sure...and it'll be more fun when the snow tires are on and I can actually slide the car without falling off the road lol
Especially if you have cold weather each year but no snow...
Should make snow/winter tires a legal requirement in the winter...
Unfortunately that will never happen in America.
@@TedwardDrives Especially given the trickiness of implementing this for different areas of certain states. I'm in neighboring NY which while North of Westchester County get lots of snow NYC and Long Island haven't really. Even though I live near NYC I still use winter tires on my Civic.
Thank god it's a legal requirement in europe to have winter tires in winter conditions.
It's not a requirement in the states? I had no idea. I'm from Northern Sweden and studded tires are a MUST in winter. Studded tires are illegal in the south for stupid reasons but people can't drive in the snow there anyways...
@@TedwardDrives wtf hahaha here in Montreal it is obligatory, but we have a LOT of snow
huh...who would have thought that the 4s stands for FOUR SEASONS :-D
yep, 4 seasons in california. thats what it means.
Just swapped over a customers set of wheels/tires on ironically a BMW from PS4s to some alpines and I was chuckling about the "4S" rating
@@jamesborek8125 to be full on winters you need the "three peak mountain snowflake symbol" here in Europe.
I have pilot sport 4s on my rwd Mercedes and it was only light snow and it still felt super sketch
In Germany we say: "Das hast du nun davon!"
And I think that’s beautiful 😂
Love how the Honda guys are so friendly.
😌 I aspire to be non-ricey and kind like those guys unlike most Civic owners

@@matth6284 I'm part of a few Honda groups and I can assure you that almost all members are very helpful and generally really nice dudes. Ive been on a few other groups ( BMW, Merc ) and you get a lot more arseholes in general.

@@lfox02 😊 Thank you!
"At least this Corsa Exhaust sounds good" 😆 indeed
I'd be laughing in Californian but I've replaced a rediculous amount of air filters over the past few fire seasons
@@LliamMoore "ridiculous"
damn i didn't even think of changing the air filter because of the fires
You should do a driving the snow/ getting unstuck basics video. That little bit of knowledge would help so many people!
will do...esp once i have the correct tires mounted lol
Make sure you cover the differences between front wheel drive and rear wheel drive in the winter.
@@TedwardDrives I agree!
Watching this gave me so much anxiety. Reminded me of the time I got caught out by an April snowstorm in my ISF while heading north to a bachelor party on Michelin A/S 3+. Thank you to small town Ontario for giving me more than couple friendly tows + pushes!
I'm right in the Worcester area myself. I gotta say you got some balls of steel. I thought about taking my STI out yesterday for a video, but I've had my PSS in the snow before and although I trust myself, it's the crazy drivers you mentioned that worried me. Glad you made it home safe. Keep up the good content!
Damn, I've never came this fast.
Wife wouldn't be pleased
Same I only lasted 2 minutes
Funniest first comment ever.
"that's what she said."
BMW + snow = epic duo
These two guys from the civic are so nice!! I even got a nice neighbour helped me get my M5 out of the snow last month(i also have ps4s on). It feels so well when you need help and someone are providing in this situation!!! God bless them, thanks a lot to them!!
I took my new to me 2008 Subaru Forester out in the first snowstorm drive this week, and I’ve never had so much fun and so much confidence in a car in the snow. And to be fair, I had 4 snow tires on it, so it definitely made my drive feel safer. Awesome content, can’t wait to see more this coming winter.
Snow tires are non negotiable in minnesota! They inspire confidence and are so worth it.
I was never a massive fan of Ted....but slowly he won me over. Think it's because he makes vids which are relatively relatable to the standard guy. Doesnt constantly talk about 1 million billion pound cars. Also I love the way he edits the vlogs...keep it up dude
I thoroughly enjoyed driving in the snow yesterday in my E90 335xi with blizzacks! I changed out the summers in the morning to prevent this!!! I enjoyed your video and keep that M3 safe!
I love watching m3’s in the snow ❄️
Idk why but I just love watching people hoon around in the snow.
So thankful I’ve got a four wheel drive 97 Tahoe with some gnarly AT tires. It’ll go anywhere I wanna go in the snow, lol!!
The struggle is real. My days in Illinois with the E36 and MXX3’s were hilarious. My parking spot was like a 1% incline and I couldn’t drive up it. Just sliiiidddddeee back down and try again. Lol 😒
14 degrees here (Fahrenheit), and still no sign of snow, please do more snow drives, they're amazingly beautiful and calming.
I really like your channel Tedward and your podcast. Just good honest stuff. Makes a refreshing change!
Thank you!
Let's see more snowy drives!
It’s the winter season in Forza horizon 4 rn as I was playing it and struggling to maintain ANY grip on my RWD cars you upload this video and it feels so perfectly timed
Snow content is awesome! Wish I lived somewhere it snowed a lot because I could have some fun in my WRX
Now this is the shit i like tedward 😂
Ive got a BMW 650I 2007 and i was in the same situation on a hill. I pressed the DTC button (dynamic traction control) and worked like a charm.
Hey bro thanks for adding subtitles.I'm trying to improve my english.Watching your videos is an enjoyable way to do that :)
@Adam ole Massachusetts accent
The snow out your way looks much prettier than what we got here in Worcester
First Vid ive watched of yours, LOVE the content
dude i loved the one video you did last year in the m3, similar to this one. for some reason it's mildly interesting to see how you people with snow manage sliding around in it haha
Snow drifting is lit
Feeling ya on those hills. I'm keeping my all seasons on until January or longer!
You’re so fortunate! I live in Mobile, Alabama, it literally NEVER snows! Imagine my frustration during my entire four year ownership of an STi!!! Never to have gotten the opportunity to drive in the snow with it. One of my biggest regrets is not taking a road trip north with that car during the winter! My second biggest regret is ever selling that car in the first place!!!!
Meanwhile in Germany, stuck on winter tires since october and every road is treated with salt once it snows only a little bit. 😍 i would love to drive on these roads, with the right tires, and no scary SUV around me.
Came across this video randomly and found roads I recognize😂 Glad to see I wasn't the only one sliding around in that snow storm!
Love the content dude! Keep it up and you’re going places!
Thank you!
Snow, abandoned stretch of either a parking lot or airport runway and you might have the most fun in winter and the ability to gather skills on how to control your car in extreme situations without hurting anyone. Lovely. I'm also always worried a bit when driving on snowy and slippery roads even with good tires. Who knows, what might happen.
I tried this once on Continental Extreme Contact 5P in my C63 😂☠️ All turned out well in the end but at one point on the smallest incline I went where the terrain wanted me to, which thankfully wasn't into a ditch or another object...
Those guys are truly legends! Hats off! :)
Great driving! I’ve had my brand new blizzacks on my forester since early October, but somehow (where I live in northern Michigan) there hasn’t been a snow yet! Just waiting to get out there and drift the neighborhood..😖
so funny watching this vid. I live in Southboro and my grandfather lives in hopedale, so I have taken that back road you got stuck on more times than I can count... very fun driving road when its not snow covered!
Haha awesome man. I remember all too good about being stuck in the snow. I was in my old acura TL, fwd with summer tires and going up the hill like you
Had PS4S on the 981 GTS. I always liked how good they performed in the wet and also in the cold, like around freezing on a mountain road towards the end of the season. Never used them in the snow. Even on my daily Fiesta I change to proper Winters in October, weeks before the first snow.
I was wondering why the sound quality was so good. You told me at the end thank you!!!
The love tap on the dash 😂😂
Wow this makes me want an M3 more than ever
I loved watching this video a lot! Specially when the dudes helped you out! True Legends haha
Laughs in Swedish. We have to wear winter tires with studs or without studs if its winter road surface from 1 December- 31 March and to get a drivers license you have to take an ice road test.
If you are from areas in the US where it can snow within this period, consider getting a studless winter tire set.
Wow, you've gotten more snow than we have in upstate NY so far this year. Driving in snow can be both fun and incredibly annoying, depending on the vehicle and your mood lol
PS - Would Love to see a quick video or instagram post about your camera and mic setup and how you use the products in the description
Look up my video called "Perfect POV"...all secrets revealed lol
@@TedwardDrives haha found it thank you. that was before I was a subscriber so I missed it :)
no worries, i hope it helps!
Seriously man I haven't had the money to get snow tires this season yet and the fact it hasn't snowed and blocked the roads up yet is awesome lol.
Only people that drive in snowy conditions can truly appreciate what you were going through there 😉! Fortunately, I have Quattro with the sport diff and Pilot Alpins, so my only concern is when driving to the cottage when the snow depth gets too great (no snow plowing permitted!) and the car can get beached (ie ground clearance is the limiting factor). Enjoy your winters with ESC off 😉!
born and raised in CT. Now living in CA. Do not miss the snow at all!
Omg I can relate in my e46 M3. Snow tires helped immensely but, I bought a used hoopty as my daily, 05 saab-aru 92x lol. The M stays nice and dry.
It sort of relaxing to watch these driving video’s. Thanks for the content. Btw, I am working as an IT project manager. Since I am watching your video’s it really makes me think if a project manager is a nice job 😂. All those problems...
So jealous right now, M3 on snow 🌨️🙏.
I really feel that video. Tomorrow I have to drive 25 kilometers through the snow on summer tires which are at the end of their life to the BMW dealer to change onto winter tires.
Why would you drive to a BMW dealer just for tires? Bring it to a normal decent tire shop. They'll do the same job for half the price and you'll have more options.
@@cheeko_914 My car had to get a big service aswell :) Also my local BMW dealer has very fair prices. It doesn't cost more than the local tire shop.
I left NY to visit my sister in Mass yesterday. Only found out it was snowing in Mass 30 minutes into my drive. All seasons got me there safe though.
This video made me thankful for the 35 and sunny today. Also remembering that I live in New Jersey, no longer thankful 🙃 Great Vid!
I've heard moving out of New Jersey feels better than sex
Even without snow tires, you can really tell how much of a good driver he is. I admit that if I had my 1998 Suzuki Wagon R+ on those conditions which is a light car, I would have eaten a tree gladly.
Just like that old 1960's motorcycle ad says ... "you meet the nicest people on a Honda". haha
Enjoyed the video, as always!
I almost bought the ps4s for my 04 STI but decided not to and just opted for the michelin as4. Which if im honest was a great decision on my part. ( I grew up driving in alaska) and my first car was an 03 lx Honda civic on all seasons no issues with the snow or hills. Then again I predominantly drove in anchorage and we do have plows. And driving on route 3 home to New Hampshire at like 4pm was actually pretty fun. Tons of donuts in an empty mall parking lot definitely made the day alot better.
I've had Michelin PS4s on my E46 330ci that performed surprisingly well in the snow. Have since moved to an E90 330d on Continental run flats that slip whenever it gets mildly cold. One day I'll be able to afford two sets to switch over to, but until then I'd definitely recommend the Michelins. Nice vid by the way!
Your videos are so enjoyable to watch
Wish old England got snow like that 😂😂 we just get rain, rain and a bit more rain
Careful, your skill is showing...
That's why you should check forecasts and change tires (studded if possible) in advance... now, this is risky and plain stupid. Other thing is that most people think they are good drivers, but in reality it is all thanks to the car's traction system. It is the computer that keeps you on the road. For giggles, try and press the DSC-button and unleash your inner rally driver.
You could also get a pack of sand or salt and put it in the trunk for extra weight on the rear axel, helps a lot and if you are stuck, you have something to put on the road for traction xD
I literally did not put snows on last year. Got around fine without them. I miss the good old new england winters
I love your videos! They're very entertaining!
At least you had some weight to help you. Should have seen me caught in a snowstorm 125 miles away from my set of winter tyres in my GT86. Took me 45 minutes to drive the 7 or 8 miles to the nearest tyre shop, and I ended wit two sets of winter tyres.
I have Dunlop Sport SP01’s all round on my E46, praying for a light Indiana winter lol
I live in south carolina and I remember this one time where my dad had to go up the side of a hill instead of a road to get to my grandparents house, lol!
Nothing like good ol Massachusetts weather
At work I get different vans, sometimes I get awd, rwd or fwd with snow tires or all seasons. I live in Canada and right now we got an especially slick winter. The awd with all seasons are doable, but the rwd and fwd gets stuck way too often, absolute nightmare trying to accelerate or brake. Winter tires make a huge difference and I seriously wouldn't ever drive my own vehicle without it. Btw I drive a crown victoria which is rwd and with winter tires it actually handles really well.
Gotta love the tailgater at the beginning...
OMG , Summer time + Snow + BMW and without weight ln the back
Steven/Stephen and his buddy are mvps
Absolute heroes
Big up to them boys, at least they got to enjoy the exhaust too haha
can't believe you arent at 100k yet, your content is crazy good for being a semi-small creator
Thanks! Share with your friends and like the videos and the growth will come. Really excited for the next few months
I had two bad experiences with 4s’s in the snow/rain so I’m now dedicated to changing my tires early 😂
In a situation like 6:20 you want to get in a higher gear to spin the wheels faster to dig to something more substantial than snow. Thats how I would get up crazy snowy mountains in a e36 with a weldy. 3rd gear limmy bashing.
I miss New England! So many epic "driving in the snow" stories!
You’re always welcome back!
@@TedwardDrives Thanks bro, but I'm afraid you'd laugh at my Rav4 Hybrid w/ "all wheel drive" and the cursed CVT. But hey, I wouldn't have gotten stuck on that hill, so that's something...
The hill you were stuck on is about 100m from my parents house. So many people get stuck on that hill in the winter.. Or in the summer they go up around that bend too fast in and crash into the fence on the left. There's currently a section missing from it getting hit again a couple weeks ago, actually! 🙄🤣
2 winters ago drove my 997 c2 with continental DWS in snow. No issues. I don't drive in snow no more bcz worry about other people crashing in to my car.
Love this!! Need more!
The issue with traction control in snow that I’ve noticed is that it’s hooked up to the stability control. When the stability control sees that you’re slipping sideways it cuts throttle to control the slide which is a dead sentence if you’re going uphill. I drove a VW with stability control that couldn’t be properly turned off with studded tires on icy roads and it was a pain in uphills that had corners because I could feel the traction control braking when I started to turn, luckily I could still get up, it just forced me to downshift.
Gotta love the bham dpw, roads were fun yesterday to say the least.
This video reminds me my snow experience with my 84' Mercedes with 10 years old tires haha... Scariest moments in my life.
I bet the Porsche will stay just well in the garage during winter :)
Whoo boy. I'm in Southcoast Mass with a car without ABS or T/C, riding on $60 all seasons. I'm gonna have some fun this winter! 😄
I’ll zoom into your funeral and pay my respects
@@TedwardDrives I'll be sure to have my mom send you an invite! Lol
Yeah I swapped out the RE71-Rs for some snow tires on my Miata at end end of October lol. With an open differential and only ABS as a drivers aid, I don't take chances.
You got further than I did. I legitimately couldn’t leave my drive way.
Oh man, that was me yesterday as well in my E39!
This looked mad fun at times... I got a little nervous at the 8 minute mark that you would lose traction at the stop sign, creep backwards down the hill, and not have the break bite to prevent you from hitting car behind you.... Glad you and the car were safe lol
Yeah I tried to get far forward as possible and the guy behind me gave me no chance for a mishap. So annoying! Winter rubber is now on the car 😂
