In the keynote address from our security and defence conference, UK Chief of the Defence Staff, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, calls for an honest assessment of the threats the UK faces and the fundamentals of Britain's position in the world.
First, Sir Tony outlines Britain's strength as a NATO member and addresses recent headlines concerning the safety of the UK.
Second, he discusses how Russia has struggled during its war on Ukraine, its surprising military weakness, and its current predicament.
Third, he lays out what the UK is doing to buttress against longer term threats.
And finally, he reflects on the responsibilities of the Chiefs of Staff, and their obligations to deliver the best from the UK's armed forces.
His speech was followed by a conversation with Chatham House Director, Bronwen Maddox.
