Epic Underwater Match Volcano ERUPTION! Chain Reaction 🔥
We managed a miniature underwater volcanic eruption, it's amazing! the result is epic! using thousands of matches and an aquarium. This experiment generates an amazing reaction similar to the eruption of an underwater volcano, the result is truly unmissable!

I was actually shocked the fuse even lit while underwater.
It's the phosphorus and sulfur content! They are essentially their own oxidizers so they don't need an outside source to stay light! Most firework wicks are covered in a layer of an oxidizers to ensure that they stay lit after being exposed to water as well

Depends on the science fair. The ones I judged needed to be demonstrating the scientific method as in they needed a testable hypothesis. This is cool, but it's a demonstration, not an experiment.

Honestly, half of the people clicked the video to see how do matchsticks burn underwater!!!
I know some can, I just wanted to see wat it looks like
Just about everyone did...
If you noticed, it still have a thin layer of air stuck to them. Look at how “glanced” the volcano looks after he set it underwater. The matches burn on that thin layer of air on the surface.
@@emmajakovich9752 I thought oxygen was retained in the mixture of the ground match heads with the diluted wood glue. The glue encapsulates tiny bubbles of air in its mixture with the flammable substance. I think you may be right, too, about the trapped air on the surfaces, but I don't think that would be enough and the refraction of the varnish coating, not a thin layer of air, could give it that shiny look when in water.
There are water proof matches actually

Actually fire can burn underwater, underwater flares do. Also volcanic fire too, the Hawaiian islands for example have discovered a new volcano forming underwater called Lo-ihi, it is still thousands of years from breaking water's surface now but they are tracking it.
Match heads contain phosphorus, which CAN burn under water.

I'm pretty sure this wouldn't just work with any old matches anyway, you'd need strike-anywhere matches. Conventional matches need to be struck on that strike strip on the box or back of the pack for the reaction to ignite. Strike-anywhere matches can be struck on any surface though, making them inherently more dangerous and thus not as readily available.

So watching how much turbulence there was in the water, it had me thinking about how incredibly violent a real volcanic eruption, from under water would be.
That could make for an alternative to the usual volcano science fair project.
I saw once a video about it, and it depends a bit on how far it is from the surface. Because like if the vulcano is in a trench you don't realy notice it but if it's like on the video I saw, it was like 40? Metres under the surface. On the surface was it extreem bubbling, like on this video but more extreme (Sorry for the long text and I'm not an expert in it, so I can be totally wrong🤷🏻♀️)
Can somebody please explain me how is the fire active underwater where there is no air?

I can't remember the documentary, but it hypothesized that this may be how some ships disappeared. Underwater eruptions destabilized surface tension, and with all the gas they ships couldn't stay buoyant and almost fell more than sank.
Don't know the documentary name either, but I remember this is one of their hypotheses about the Bermuda triangle. I believe they think it might be methane deposits off gassing causing the disappearances.
I watched that documentary too! I can’t remember the name of it but it was very interesting.
Only may explain small percentage of ships and none of the aircraft.
Found the documentary, I believe. It's Bermuda Triangle by BBC Studios. That said, the number of ships and planes lost in the triangle aren't outside the average for any other part of the oceans. So, while the methane theory is an interesting thought experiment, the disappearances there don't need an out of the ordinary explanation.

Just wait around 50,000 years or so and watch Lo'ihi emerge near the big island in Hawaii. It'll be epic.
@@spikespa5208 the arctic has about 4 million square miles of methane, once the arctic gets to a certain temperature, 37 or 38 degrees, the deep thaw of the permafrost will be underway, trillions of tons will be bubbling to the surface, and then it will find an ignition, and all of it, everywhere, will burn at about 6,000 degrees, a cool video to be sure.
