    • @Stink Wrinkles actually any half decent club level player can play that out instantly under time pressure.....it's why chess coaches/teachers/club leaders spend so much time teaching new players the basic mates, at lower levels you'll often have to break it down with time pressure...Mike was confused by trying to do it the "correct way" which is of course the best if you know it, but there's a simpler, easier to pull off method that takes more moves, but can be done with almost no thought so many people can do that faster...

    • Rook and king isn’t even about cornering. It’s the most basic opposition technique taught in chess. It’s literally the first thing I teach my kindergarten students after how the pieces move.

  • I discovered your channel today, I'm a noobi at chess (guetting destroyed by AI lvl 10 on chess.com). but It's a really incredible game I love it, as a decent Dota2 player I found alot of similitude between the 2 games. after watching around 20 of your vids I have to say I love those 2 guys especially Mike, he always look so angry and mad but at the end he's always smilling winning or losing. It is so nice to see someone being 200% into something he loves.

  • At 14:31 when asked how to finish the game off blacks king is restricted to 9 square so the most efficient strategy is to move King E5 forcing white to move to one of 3 square - whichever is picked white can reduce black to 6 square, and subsequent moves will rapidly push black into a forced mate (considerably quicker than the example provided).

  • Important alternative move that wasn't covered at the end: 5:25 Qc8+ Kh7 Qc2+ forces the Queen trade quite a bit earlier. With that much time left (2:30) and less advanced pawns that should have been enough to net Mike the win.
