Everywhere scousers travel they act like animals yet cry when things go wrong. You always hear about Hillsborough but what about the Heysel Stadium disaster?? • Don't understand this thought process at all. Since when did the England team represent the government? I'm a Leeds fan, from a part of the world hit heavy by Thatcher's policies but I still support my fellow countrymen. It's not like the England team has Boris Johnson as a CF chanting anti-Liverpool sentiment! Also you say you don't feel respected by other English clubs that come to Anfield and chant nasty things, but that's football mate! We hear "We all hate Leeds scum" on a bi-weekly basis but you don't take it to heart. Do you also not support English athletes in the Olympics? Are they Thatcherites and hardline Tories because they choose to represent their country and work hard to get a gold medal? I think you'll find most athletes (footballers included) care very little for politics.

Shit comment by scousers on here regarding Glasgow, Newcastle being similar in thoughts... rubbish, half of Glasgow are proud Brits the other half are the same as scousers wishing they were Irish. Newcastle and the North East have and always have had massive representation in our Armed forces, so again proud Brits. So many people I meet here go to Liverpool at weekends and absolutely love the place. The people. The humour. Sure Scousers hate the Tories but to see some of these programmes outsiders would believe we were a humourless bunch who disliked anyone who wasn’t a Scouser. We are very much like Geordies. They hate the Tories but, as far as I know, they don’t view themselves as Geordie not English. Not too sure how many Scousers feel that way anyway. But I don’t live there anymore

That lack of funding post industry in places like Liverpool and Grimsby (were I’m from) is so clear. After our fishing docks were shut down my town went from having the biggest fishing docks in Europe with thriving industry to a genuine shithole after thousands were left jobless and its still like that too this day with absolutely no funding from the government and no opportunities for the people here. The only town of note where it didn’t happen that u van think of in the north would be Salford with all the media city stuff and the bbc. During the 1966 World Cup, England were due to play their semi final at goodison park and a lot of locals were excited to attend and see the england team. They decided to change it so they would play at Wembley instead. Since then, a lot of older scousers just can’t be arsed with supporting england, issues like hillsborough and thatcher or at least the false perception the rest of england have of them “not being as bad as we make out” just made it worse.

  • Being from Liverpool, I can completely understand why he’s saying this and where it comes from. I do have a slight reservation though. When we say that we don’t feel English, that doesn’t mean that we don’t like or don’t get along with people on an individual level from all over the country. If we get along, we’re probably going to be friends for life. It’s that simple. We just don’t feel part of England as a country. For me personally, I’m northern at best, and I definitely don’t want us to alienate ourselves from the north as a whole. I resonate with my own people and I resonate with other northerners and the north as an identity and the experiences that all of us have gone through when it comes to the divide with the south, particularly Westminster. But when people say continuously that they don’t like scousers, we’re this and we’re that, we’re robbers and scumbags, what do you think is going to happen? How do you think we’re going to respond? And if that’s the case, find me another impoverished city in the world where people didn’t steal to make money or to survive. Would you rather we starved quietly in a corner? We were left to rot. The only reason our city centre looks the way it does now is because of the funding we received for being the capital of culture. It wasn’t Tory money, it wasn’t even Labour money. And we know for a fact that Liverpool wouldn’t have had a chance if it weren’t for that. And then everyone wants to scratch their heads on why scousers, why northerners in general, feel a certain way towards their own country. It actually baffles me when people say we act like victims whilst conveniently forgetting the slander we get, whether it’s our class, our accents, our history, our political history. It’s full on mass gaslighting.

    • Well articulated and I fully agree. One of the strange irony’s of leaving the EU is Liverpool’s docks may well re-open. The decline of our port coincided with the UK’s integration with the EU. The city has always had it’s back to the country but facing the world, while Liverpool voted to remain; a consequence of leaving is we might see a renaissance of trade once again.

      @jackfoulkes2047@jackfoulkes2047 Жыл бұрын
    • @@jackfoulkes2047 Liverpool was the Second City of the Empire, then when the nation went into decline and became all about globalism and socialism, Liverpool was just the biggest bit of muck on the shovel to sling off first. The way things have gone, Liverpool has become utterly politically captured by Labour and left-wing fantasists, I detest the principle of "managed decline" as tantamount to treason, but at this point, the rhetoric behind Thatcher's often overlooked unquestionable dark side ideas, have become a self profiling prophesy. In the same way it was inexcusable to purposely destroy Liverpool as a city for purely political and ideological reasons, it's inexcusable the pure hysterics and to the embarrassing degree that Liverpool has become politically a rabid left-wing dead-end. Actually creating our own party, The Scouse Party, isn't a bad idea, yes it'll never win, obviously it'll only get elected in Liverpool, but isn't that the point of democracy? Represent those who vote for you, get rid of Labour and Conservatives, actually let people be represented, and allow some free, not so, common sense trickle down the whole country, and let the real share values and beliefs of the UK shine through. • Born and bred scouser and I've never agreed with this attitude. I think it's insular, and pretending we are somehow seperate does nothing for the city. Generations of politicians have come through the city pushing the idea of 'Scouse, not English' and you know what it's never done any good for any one. In fact they've done a lot of damage to the city while beating this drum. Anti-tory and harking on about the 80s doesn't make an iota of difference to the lives of people in this city, who've endured decades of corruption and mismanagement. Liverpool needs to be outward looking and not navel-gaze or allow the past to dictate its future. The 1980s were over 30 years ago, I was there, I remember it and I refuse to have a chip on my shoulder over it. With respect many people you hear bang on about it weren't even alive at the time. Generations of inherited grievance won't make the city any richer, any safer, any better than it is, it's just the same old, same old. But hey, scouse, not English, so everything's absolutely sound now.

I mean, are we the only city who have letter proving it was all deliberate? As far as I know, yes. Obviously we've also had Hillsborough, and Liverpool with its strong Irish and Welsh identies has even less reason to like London and Westminster. Now, does that mean we think we're the only ones the government fucked when we complain about it? No. If Geordies want to fly banners saying Geordie not English I think all you'd hear is applause on Merseyside. In fact, I think any Northern city that got fucked by Thatcher will find more sympathy in Liverpool than in almost any other city, because we get it. We went through the same. Now, you as a city can react to the historical oppression however you want. If you want to forgive and move on and try to strengthen the Union, that's fine by us. You wanna voice your pain, help the government understand the extent of what it did? You do it, and we'll be right here next to you with raised fists. Just because we complain about what happened to us doesn't mean we don't know, understand or discredit what happened to other cities and peoples. Criticising Scousers for bringing up our pained past is textbook whataboutism, and there's simply no need.

However, since Hillsborough and since Margaret Thatcher, the City has received millions of pounds worth of government investment particularly during it's year as City of Culture. I think the city is massively improved. Scousers may or may not agree. I speak as a visitor with a great affection for the City. It has attracted many more visitors than it ever did before the investment, albeit if has always been an important and wonderful city. What I don't understand is why Liverpool fans wouldn't support the England team, which is neither a London team or politically affiliated (even if the capital represented the government, which it doesn't). Neither do I understand why the fans boo the national anthem which is not a political anthem. I find it sad, that's all.

Literally we just vote Labour and hope for the best even though they’re a bunch of shysters as well. I don’t see how Welsh nationalism hasn’t taken off as much as Scottish nationalism has given the Welsh have historically (and contemporarily) been treated much worse (and Liverpool have played a role in that, i.e Capel Celyn) If Liverpool had any background as its own nation I’d want to break away so hard we’d become an island hahahah. The union is fucked whatever happens and its well deserved.

He's watching his team compete and sometimes win in the Champions League and compete for the Prem and stuff, how could he possibly get the same buzz watching England inevitably crash out of a tournament after watching then grind out 1-0 wins and moody corners for a tournament? The Liverpool fans I know do watch England but they'd rather it wasn't on because they're worried about their players getting injured in a tournament they will never win and its the same with the United, Chelsea and City fans I know
