  • I've been saying this for a while. In team building, the absolute hardest thing to accomplish is to get a pair of superstars. You usually have to draft them or have a slew of first round picks & some young talent to trade. Signing one in free agency, especially if you aren't in a big market city, is extremely hard. The Mavs drafted Luka, and they "bought low" on a troubled superstar in Kyrie. If it wasn't a gamble, they wouldn't have gotten him for ONE first round pick, Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney Smith, and a pair of seconds. Just look what Utah got for Gobert & Mitchell. When you have your two stars, you then have to ask yourself what are their weaknesses? I would say Kyrie's weaknesses are lack of size and weaker defense. I would say Luka's main weakness is his lackluster defense, not being "athletic," and has to be ball dominant. What is the overall team's weak point after that? Rebounding & Rim Defense. Now go out & get players to compliment those weaknesses. They drafted Lively & traded for Gafford. Both players have size, atletism, and defense and thrive catching lobs from your two stars. They can grab boards & defend the rim. Biggest team need is fixed. What kind of players compliment Luka & Kyrie best? 3&D athletic forwards. They went out & signed Derrick Jones Jr & traded for PJ Washington. Both are athletic forwards, versatile enough to gaurd multiple positions, and good enough 3pt shooting to demand attention when they stretch the floor. They also signed Exum is another 3 & D guard with ball-handling abilities. When all these guys start clicking, with solid role players like Tim Hardaway Jr, Josh Green, Maxi Kleber, & Jaden Hardy, the Mavs are going to be tough for a lot of teams to beat. In my opinion they are one piece away from being feared title contenders. They need a wing player like OG Anunoby, Herb Jones, Mikal Bridges, Keegan Murray, etc who excel at defense would fit perfectly as the team's third scoring option.

    • 11 days later: clippers vs mavs is already a minimum 6-game series & looking like 7. the mavs probably ain't winning against OKC, but let's say they figure out a way, it will take 7 games. the mavs ceiling in 2024 is the WCF, they won't get passed the nuggets or the wolves (the other western semis).

  • If you've never played ball and won championships, you have to have roll players!!! Plain and simple....I owned a semi-pro team in my 20's and 30's....we ran off 28 championships in a row!!!! I would give the 7 foot trophies to my uncle and when we had a couple hours until our next game.....his wife would make us lunch ...and we would sit and I would say......look that's what we did!!! His entire living room was filled with trophies!!!

Top 10 defense top 10 offense and top 10 3 point team It’s really insane. We’re number one in defense since then also. And top 1-4 in offense shit us crazy and Pj can go for 30 and gaffers can for for 25-30 and thj can go for 15-30 lol any given night you can get blown tf out.
