Season 11 of The Grind Waterfowl TV is finally here and the crew is starting off the season hunting ducks and geese in North Dakota with friend Rick Darling. North Dakota in October has become a tradition for the crew and a hunt that is looked forward to every year. The prairie pothole region experienced severe drought all spring and summer, so waterfowl numbers are down. Even battling the drought, The Grind crew still has high hopes for the hunt and camaraderie around duck camp.

I admit I cried a little watching this. I hunted this area 20+ years ago and have some great memories but I haven’t shot a duck or goose in years, lost my last retriever 3 years ago. Love watching the dog work.
They are THE best part of hunting. Sorry for your loss, we know its very tough!
I know what you mean. When I had to put my Chessie down years ago it just about broke me. Had a hunting buddy that was never late, always ready to go, and lived for the cold water. I still hunt a bit but at 70 it's just not the same without him, and I could really use him now. Sorry for your loss.
Nothing like a good old Nodak Dry field beat down. Especially when you are blessed with a sunrise as well. Gods Country
Agreed! Thanks for the support we appreciate it.
Man I been up there last 4yrs and last year (when this video was shot) was the driest we ever seen it and some of the farmers we talk to said it worst as far as they can remember as well. Great video guys. Always love it.
It was horrible! Hope we don’t see that again anytime soon. Not good for the ducks. Thanks for the support and have a good season!
Dog just having fun lol
always!
Great video guys. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much we appreciate it! Good luck this season
Ya great video. Shit ass ND. 🤣

Great to see the Grind back in action! also I'm the same way with decoys my dad has to hide them from me!

Here in Wisconsin I noticed the duck populations are weird this year I hope it's a good year..
Yea hopefully it turns out well! Good luck!
solid 🦆
Thanks we appreciate it 👊
Great video one of those big Canada Geese looked like a Maxima Canada Goose. Of all the varieties of Canada Geese from Maxima to Cacklers. I believe there are 11 subspecies of Canada Geese. How many different varieties do you get to harvest where you are hunting? Really enjoyed watching the Labs work also. 💪🏼🙏🏻✨
Very cool! Did not know there were that many varieties! Thanks for the support we appreciate it.
@@TheGrindWaterfowlTV i used to work as a professional hunting guide and professional dog trainer. On very exclusive hunting clubs in Ontario Canada. The Griffith Island Hunt Club ( 3, 500 acre Island ) and the Nicholson Island Hunt Club ( 400 Acres) They both had Ringneck Pheasant, Chukar Partridge, Bobwhite Quail and Whitetail Deer. Members included Barcardi Rum family, Weston family, Ted Kennedy hunted their a few times. So I had to have a good knowledge of the individual flora and fauna on the clubs. Plus a good knowledge to answer questions from the members. Plus i worked at the Camden Lake public duck hunting area with 35 numbered blinds. Based on a first come first served basis. The different varieties or subspecies of Canada Geese ( Branta Canadensis ) that I know of are. Giant / Maxima, Brent ( not Brant ) Cackling , Atlantic , Hudson's Bay, Dusky , Moffitt's , Aleutian, Lesser. I can't recall the other two lol. They also get smaller as one goes Northwards and Darker as you go Westward. Truly a great Waterfowl and one i so enjoy pursuing. I mouth call as well as use a few different Goose calls. Really enjoy working in 20 or 30 Canada Geese from hundreds of yards away. Until they touch down into my spread. Keep up with the great work and videos. 💪🏼🙏🏻✨
What Kent shot do y’all use for geese
We use Faststeel #2 or Bismuth #4
Last year was hard. I was all over down that way looking for moose for a hunter. We didn't have the best of luck with birds last year. The one thing that saved us was we found a field where the farmer planted a low spot that had water normally in the spring but didn't last spring. There was a duck feed there with 10-12k mixed ducks. Mostly Gadwall Widgeon and some Mallard. Bad part it was 3/4 of a mile off the road and there was not driving in the field.
Never fun when you can't find a way to get to them!
@@TheGrindWaterfowlTV we got to them it was just a long muddy walk for a fat guy lol.
walking in mud SUCKS but unfortunately we can't hunt them at home on the couch 😂
@@TheGrindWaterfowlTV amen.
What a-frame are you using?? I love that concept of not having to put the frame all together and take it apart.
In this episode we use the X-Frame, it's made by Dakota Decoy.
By chance what time in October was this?! Just wanting to compare it to when I was there last year!
The second week of October! Good luck this season
What is the hanger system you have for your Lucky Ducks? is that home made or can it be purchased somewhere
Thats just a custom one that Rick built!
@@TheGrindWaterfowlTV how do I get Rick to build me one! I need it
What king of blind is that you are using??
depending on which one you're talking about it's either a Lucky Duck 2x4 blind or Dakota X blind
Interesting one of our local guides does not use motion with goose decoys. He maintains Canadians don't like motion.
In the right situation they work REALLY well!
🇪🇨🇪🇨👍👏
Filmed in 2022?
2021
Be even fewer ducks when spend so many days afield and consistently shoot hens.
Sounds like you're missing the bigger picture and understanding of what else impacts duck populations and duck production each year, and what percentage of hunter's harvest numbers have on those numbers. But thanks for the comment, Meg. Have a good season 👍
@@TheGrindWaterfowlTV I stand by my statement because it is "factually true", but weather, water and predation are the largest factors by far. Almost every species, if you want to decrease a population, for whatever reason, eliminating females is a sure-fire way.
This is 2022, correct?
No it's 2021.
