Pepper Grinder reviewed by Tristan Ogilvie on PC. Also available on Nintendo Switch.
"Like its diminutive main character, Pepper Grinder may be a little on the short side, but even this small pinch of Pepper still packs plenty of punch. Plowing through platforms feels fantastic, no two levels ever seem the same, and there are some wonderfully destructive toys to discover and employ along the way. I do wish the boss fights outside of the final encounter were a bit more challenging, and the lack of anything meaningful to buy in the in-game store meant I didn’t feel compelled to take too many return trips through each world to collect any missed currency and extend my playtime. But if you’re in the mood for a short but sweet slice of propulsive platforming action of a kind rarely seen since Ecco the Dolphin’s last adventure, Pepper Grinder is all driller and no filler."
Why are short games judged so harshly? In this day and age, a game that doesn't overstay it's welcome, and introduces fun ideas at regular intervals without being bored is a HUGE selling point for me
Agree 💯👍
Exactly.
Word!
The length of a game doesn't determine its quality. We shouldn't give special treatment for short or long games
It's also possible for a 12 hour game to not overstay its welcome. If a game has potential to stay fresh and creatively offer new things throughout the hours, it doesn't have to be short.
Dunkey is going on a warpath for this one
How or why so?
We need more short games like this with all killer no filler.
Dunkey better review this and do it justice. 6 years in the making?
Game length is a very controversial thing in the last decade or so. People want games to be like 9hrs for something like this and AAA games ro be like 40hrs. When the time extends so much, too many aspects are recycled, story gets staled, enemies become more sponge like
Whenever a game brags about the length being “100 hours” or some crap like that my first thought is “Ok, how many of those hours are spent doing interesting things?”
Yes but games are expensive, it's just not worth it to spend money on a 3 hour game that has no replayability value.
@@nnnnnnnnnn5654feel dat but dis one is 15 bux lol and definitely replayable
Not to mention budgets ballon.
It's like they took the drilling sections in Ori and the will of the wisps and made a whole game. Looks cool!
exactly my thought
dang, a 7? this for sure sounded like an 8. I'm planning to pick this up on Switch, assuming it runs ok.
sadly the developers didn't gave IGN enough money to give it a higher score

Being able to hijack the Lakitu's cloud didn't occur until Super Mario World
This game pulls you in and you will stay on your cough without noticing, the gameplay has a charm from the stage one until the end. Flawless mechanics and level design, fantastic game.
That drill and mech, is that a Gurren Lagan reference?
Showing the final boss in a review feels bad to me ICL
0:34 Ahh Music to my ears. I'm okay with this.
Drill dozer is a really solid game for people who want to play a classic
Hey Venture Overwatch is down thr street
Act now and receive more puns than a drunken father-in-law! ShamWow!
Why no mention on drill dozer. They definitely took some inspiration from that
Holy spoilers Batman!
'An echo of an echo' Was... Was that a Cabin Pressure reference???
The wordplay in this review are wonderfully relentless ❤
7/10 I’ll take a bow now
The game is like one of the skills of 'ori and the blind forest'
Relating this game to echo the dolphin is insane 😂
Classic "this sounds like an 8 but gets a 7"
so much spoilers omg
It's not short; it's REALLY short
I'm not one to comment on IGN's review scores usually, but the tone of this review and the score seem waay off. 7 Is passable, the only realy downfall sounded like length? For many people it being short and sweet is a benefit. Not every player is looking for a 50-100 hour RPG. Many gamers buy a lot of varied games, for me the quality of the time matters more than the price especially when it isn't triple A.
If you like games that are Sega Genesis size in their length then Pepper Grinder is for you.
7 is the vote
07/10
You know the score
three hours for a game like this is def too short, docking a point for that is fair.

Not open world. 7 it is.
This game is way better than a 7. F ign
That's just your opinion, man
The score doesn’t fit the review
This reviewer is a joke, literally could say this is the best game of the year and still give it a 7. It’s his favorite number
And if it doesn't deserve anything more than 7, then what?
@@sidewinder2057thats not up to you
Million time better than eldin ring
I’m sorry, you can’t complain about the length of the game without also mentioning its price. 3-5 hours may be short, sure, but the game is also only about $15/£12.50. 3-5 hrs of great fun for that price is perfectly acceptable and marking it down for that point just seems like pretty crap journalism.
That's your opinion. Other people may disagree. Stop saying that they "can't" do something just because you disagree with it
Why does this review narrator have to emphasise every word before a com-maaa, or full sto-ooop? It's annoying to listen to-ooo.
Another pointless score from IGN
Why are you even here if you don't trust or like IGN? You're feeding them clicks and as revenue just by coming here to post a generic whiny comment. You want to make things better? Stop viewing IGN vids, you moron!
