    • True, but I did an experiment on this video and I turned off the subtitles, and I did ok following it I think. It helps that the little speech bubbled were edited in, so I could see the written Dutch as they spoke, but I did more or less follow it.

  • I've made a daytrip to Groningen a few weeks ago and tried the first time to order in dutch in a restaurant and cafe. I was so insecure that I would pronounce it wrong or that they wont understand me, but they did!!!👏🥰 I was so proud but had to concentrate SO much because they answered so fast😂 They thought I was fluent I think😅

  • Hoi Kim! Ik heb deze video vorige week gebruikt met een groepje Oekraïners dat Nederlands aan het leren is. Het was superinteressant voor hen om het dagelijkse gebruik van het Nederlands te horen! Ik had er een invultekstje bij gemaakt, en ze hebben heel veel nieuwe woorden geleerd. Zo kenden ze 'tuurlijk' nog niet, en ze vonden het ook bijzonder om te zien dat jij als vrouw ging betalen! Ontzettend goed gemaakt deze video, en echt enorm nuttig!

  • I really do love your videos so far. They're easy to follow. I tried learning Dutch a long time ago when I was going to visit Amsterdam. Everyone spoke English and they seemed annoyed if I tried to practice my very limited Dutch, so it was a bit disappointing. I did enjoy my stay there though. I found that overall the people were very nice, the architecture was beautiful and the museums were a lot of fun. The police were also very helpful when I lost my passport 😅. To stay relevant with this video, what is an acceptable amount to tip your server? In the US the average is 15% of the total (20% or higher for a great server).

    • Thank you! I am happy to hear that! And yes, we Dutch always reply in English, it's super frustrating for my students sometimes. And we tip around 10% :)

  • interesting discussing the tip. I have heard over and over and over, from Dutchies even, that tipping mostly doesn't happen, or sometimes happens as a 'round up' thing (EG leave 30€ for a 28€ bill), which is a pretty small amount still. When I do move there, I don't want to understand how to adapt to the culture and the expectations, but I had really heard a lot that it was mostly not done. Though, big yay for having tax included in the price! Here in Canada everything is just 13% higher than what it says on the sign or on the menu.

    • Good choice. Once you'll start learning German, you'll wonder why they do it so unnecessarily complicated with all the declinations and weird plurals. I've been living in Germany since I was 6 years old and of course I speak perfectly now. But there are many people (even those who grew up here) that aren't able to speak or (especially) write correctly according to standardized grammar/orthography. It is, in fact, a hard language. But a nice one, as well.

  • Een tijdje geleden heeft een van mijn klasgenoten van Nederlandse taal les me over je kanaal verteld. Super leuk! Ik vind dit filmpje en die van de markt/boodschappen echt nuttig. Ik wist niet "Tuurijk". Ook "Een keer..., een keer...", "Geniet ervan", "...lekker bij jullie? (prepositie is moeilijk voor me)" en "... bij elkaar" wil ik meteen gebruiken. En de manier om fooi te geven, waardeer ik het echt. Een vraag voor je niet over taal maar... mag ik weten welke lippenstift je gebruikt in dit filmpje? Heel mooi😊

  • I miss the cafes in Amsterdam. They serve nice oat cappuccinos and tasty croissants. The food 🥘 in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 was so tasty and light. I lost 2 kilos when I returned to the UK

  • As someone who just started learning Dutch, your videos are very helpful! I hear you say "graag" in your videos. Is there a difference between "alstublieft" verses "graag"? Full disclosure, Duolingo has only taught me alsjeblieft and alstublieft.
