While there are plenty of bad weapons in the game, the worst are really the ones the devs meant to be usable but aren't for one reason are another. This installment will pit me against the entire game using the weapon I think is the worst. Hopefully I can find a way to make it interesting this time.

There is some insane sense of cosmic irony in not only not being able to aim a weapon called "Sniper Crossbow", but the fact that even if you could aim it, your controller had god awful drift on the right stick, lmao.
Binoculars is an alternative for aiming.

@@znerd3664 That]s why instead, you use a short bow. Never understood why people use binoculars for throwing weapons/crossbows, like they can't spare 0.5 weight for a bow off-hand.
the difference between this and the not-swords is that even with them you can use resins or weapon buffs, and they all have quick movesets, so even without them you can avoid damage. the sniper crossbow is like if a club had a 4 second windup
And no poise damage and poor overall damage with no scaling nor appliable buffs. And a limited ammo count that cost Souls to replenish. There's also the fact that enemies are more likely to dodge because it's a projectile. And also it has more than double the Club's weight.
If you fire a weapon from outside it's effective range, the arrows start to lose damage. Once you get far enough away, the damage drops to 0. You can most easily see this against the hydra usually. I think it's hilarious that you set up a sniping spot against Gwyndolin and then it didn't even work because the SNIPER crossbow didn't have enough range to make use of it.
For real did a bow only run that hawk ring is a must. Poison arrows are good against gwyndolin
The cheap particle effect spray every time you kill something big is so satisfying in the Souls games!

As someone who's beaten the game with a broken straight sword, your patience and skill here is very admirable
I did a bit of a doubletake when I realized that you used the sniper crossbow to take out OnS and Snctuary guardian and take on Artorias without the extra estus from Rite of kindling since I always deal with Pinwheel so early I always assume everyone has 20 estus. Mad respect, I would not have made it that far without the extra heals.
I only kill pinwheel when I'm going to go kill nito. I spend the entire game without the rite of kindling because I either die instantly or I take no damage.

What I always did was stick with 10 even after getting the rite but then if it’s too much struggle I would up it to 15 Needless to say I had every bonfire in the DLC at 15
I remember watching lobosjr doing a no-lock on sniper crossbow run wayyyyy back. Was probably the most interesting challenge run to watch because every fight needed strats

Daggers aren't bad at all. I've done a dagger only run and they have such a high attack speed and such good scaling that they don't even fall that far behind beasts like katanas in terms of DPS. Plus, they're super easy on your stamina and weight which removes pressure from leveling endurance in the early game. Daggers are good, and I will die on that hill if I have to.
Because of the way weapon enchantments work they arguably are the best weapon to buff+bandits knife is an excellent bleed weapon
Daggers might be overpowered but it's only because they made every other weapon, aside from katanas, act nothing like how they'd be used in real life. The zweilander isnt heavy enough to force you to essentially drag it across the ground through your hits, it would realistically suit the claymores moveset, speaking of claymore. The claymore would have the moveset of a longsword, since that's what a claymore is. And either way, the swords always have way to much force in their attacks making them slower. If it was realistic that is, daggers wouldnt be as good due to their lack of range.

There's also the increased crit damage, Bandit's Knife is a great riposte weapon!
I remember doing a Dagger """challenge""" run, because i expected it to suck. I leveled Int to use Great/Crystal Magic Weapon so i could "deal a bit more damage with that garbage". I wasn't expecting it to turn into a close range machinegun! The way it melts life bars for barely any stamina cost is disgusting, i love it.
I like that you actually fought the gold armoured guy in a challenge. Everyone else just kicks him off and ignores the weapon

Has sniper in its name but is the most inaccurate weapon. Ironic. I don't know why, but the developers really don't like crossbows although they are so dangerous that some kings forbid their use by private persons becoming one of the earliest banned weapons.
I don't know what this is but. The crossbows in this game are super nice. Turning the game into easymode. Heavy crossbow is a decent sidearm for any heavier build too.
@@remote24 crossbows are perfect for a tanky slow build, bait attack and shoot. use shields to block off attacks and you're golden and always in relative safety
For God’s sake, the model has a crosshair, why couldn’t we use that? How can you snipe with something you can’t manually aim? Great job with this run! Edit: lmao, Gaping Dragon gets to live I suppose
My favorite thing about the sniper crossbow aside from looks is the animation that plays when you don't meet the strength requirement. The recoil nearly ripping your arm off and the arm flailing you do is just beautiful
Daggers shouldn't even be a candidate for worst weapon, bandit's knife at least is top tier.
What's Priscilla's Dagger like? Always wanted to do a run with that. Combo of 500 bleed and occult damage seems kinda cute.
@@tomd1826 Priscilla's Dagger does have the highest bleed damage, but the build up is the slowest. I'd personally go with BK from start to finish, since I'm not sure if PD's high bleed damage can fully compensate for how long and how much stamina it takes to fully build up. Anyways, it's not like PD is unusable or anything, you should use it if you want to.
@@Raoul. Aren't most late game bosses completely immune to bleed, starting from Odious and Smug?
@@tomd1826 More range, which is the dagger's main weakness, more damage than the bandit's knife and very good bleed. It was my weapon of choice for a dagger run and it was pretty good. Dark silver tracer has powerful r2's too and can inflict toxin.

I'm only halfway through the video, but after getting hit with Runescape music eventually followed by Risk of Rain music, I really have to commend your choice in music. I noticed Donkey Kong too, and dude I love how many of the same games we must have played. Thanks for the great video, man. Really appreciate the great entertainment with a weapon I never even thought of using!

A broken sword still has the straight sword moveset, which is generally considered good in any souls game. So it is hard to do damage, but it isn't to terrible to get a hit in. The sniper crossbow feels terrible to use, even if you do damage. This wouldn't be so terrible if it was a...you know...actual sniper, that you could use at range to piss off an enemy and then switch to something useable when they got close.
Xbow got so much nicer after DS1. I used a normal xbow as a secondary weapon on 1st run (strength build) in all of DS2, DS3, and Elden Ring. They served me well throughout each run, very frequently traversing areas for the first time. They also turned out to make quite a few boss fights require less skill to win! Turns out quite a few moves in various move pools just aren't valid if you keep backing off, and you can punish from so far away that they can't follow up. Quite a long way from this weapon. You could occasionally bait a ganker with it using binocular snipe + hawk ring in the forest when they were standing perfectly still and/or spamming hello/very good/etc to convince them to chase. Not that useful, but fun.
I always appreciate in a challenge run when getting the weapon becomes part of the challenge! Great video!

If you can aim, but there is no reticle, try shooting a few times at more or less the same location and note if the arrows always hit the same spot. If yes, you can simply make a mark on your monitor (like a little piece of tape with a tiny ripped up corner of paper) to act as the reticle. You won't damage your monitor, and now you have "accuracy" :D I did this with Dark Souls 2 and magic, all of a sudden I had free camera spell casting with perfect accuracy at long range, making places like the Lava Castle in the Sky easy with taking out all the knights with a Sorcerer :) Also not exactly Dark Souls related, but I do the same trick with sniper rifles in shooters as they often don't have a free aim (non-zoomed) reticle.
Or create a note with the new features from steam

Nice job completing this challenge! Since the sniper crossbow doesn't scale with any stats, would you get more damage by upgrading it to lightning or chaos instead of +15?
Depends on the enemy you're up against really. I'd say lightning is the best option for most of the game assuming you allow glitches/farming because soul duping allows enough souls to buy lightning bolts which are best used out of a lightning infused bow due to how damage splits work. YMMV though, e.g. Gwyn resists lightning but is weak to fire, so chaos with heavy bolts is best there.
never get tired of hearing osrs music in your videos, I have a burning love for Dark Souls 1 AND osrs. Happy to see others blessed with the best palate.
New challenge: Beat Dark Souls using only information the player character would have. Basically a more or less definitive story run. (You could make this very interesting when considering the two serpents and endings) I've just wanted so many people to get into dark souls but maybe they arent a game or it literally is too hard for their playstyle, etc., but I think something with some light narration or commentary (maybe even roleplay to a degree for immersions sake) I think it would be perfect, even if it turns out being a 2 hour supercut. Idk, I've wanted the same thing for Bloodborne Other rules or guidelines; -Each combat scenario would be planned out to enhance the story and explore/learn from the enemy's movesets. Just another thing to enhance immersion, and to show the player character learning. -Item descriptions dont count, depending on the context. Some things are obvious based on physical observation, while often times it's as if you are gaining information via magic means or some unexplained nonsense. (Just balance this out) -Game music volume raised, or sound effects powered. Nobody wants to listen to fleshy or clanky hits from a weapon for 2 hours. -And lastly, just do whatever you can possibly think of to make it as dramatic and cinematic as possible. If you can edit the UI to be less visible or even gone entirely that would be a plus. Please, oh please I beg of the 🙏🏽 The world needs

@@PETHRIS That's not a terrible idea, but even then it wouldn't feel accessible to non-gamers. Plus they wouldn't be considering these aspects, mostly just trying to finish the game by any means haha. And dont get me started on all the fake "blind" runs I've seen peppered across YT

Astora straight sword is a weird example. A few points in 3 stats and a highly reliable divine/magic weapon for early-mid game. Better example for odd stats would be Artorios’ Greatsword with that 24/18/20/20 req

Have an idea for a run I wanted to try, never got around to it: Each boss you defeat locks the weapon class you were using, forcing you to switch after every boss. No respecs, and this goes until you either hit credits or run out of weapon classes to use and lose
Think itll force you to pick and choose targets carefully, and find clever ways to skip what you can. Not sure which fromsoft game would be best for this, but hey, nobodies gonna read this anyway
Not sure how awful it would be to say no switching classes early, but I want to give it a shot so I will. Hope youll join me on this foolishness

Honestly that's what I loved about old dark souls games, and why Dark Souls 2 is my favorite in the franchise, is the fact that you can take one of the worst pieces of equipment or the worst weapon and slowly get better with it as the game progresses. And what makes the first three Souls games interesting is the fat that you could always upgrade the weapons or gear, which means that even the worst pieces of equipment would not stay the absolute worst pieces of equipment and with enough skill and upgrades you could watch your favorite piece of equipment become stronger. It might not be the best in the game but it always felt awesome to see my favorite pieces of gear stay with me for a playthrough. As much as I respect fromsoft, I think ever since bloodborne they have tried to make their games pure skill related and less about the RPG mechanics. Those mechanics are still there and Elden ring proved that the community still wants varied builds and equipment, but I don't think they'll ever go back to Dark Souls 1 or 2 days.
This might not be the worse weapon on the game by damage. However it is the slowest.. probably

@mez.bastian for me personally I will take a moveset over damage any day. If I don't like the moveset then I won't use the weapon.

tbh I never understood why people use the slow reticle-less binoculars to aim throwing knives/crossbows, when it's easier to just aim a regular bow with a crosshair.
I remember a heavy crossbow run was one of the more relaxing ones since most bosses dont fight back well at range. Interesting that sniper crossbow makes such a large difference. 4 kings with any low damage weapon is a nightmare, though.

I was gonna say that the straight sword hilt you get at the start of the game is the worst one, but at least even that has a purpose, it sets the precedent that the right hand is the weapon hand, plus you can turn it into the artorias sword

It also being 8.0 weight is also pretty heavy even for most melee weapons. On top of that buying bolts and having odd requirements. But then not scaling with those requirements lol.
This makes me want to try out a bow focused build.

Love your videos man, I never played any of the Dark Souls games to completion, but beat Elden Ring for each ending. Watching you play has convinced me to go back and actually beat them. Any ideas to make it more interesting?
Any kind of limitation makes it interesting. Try to use only one weapon class, or one damage type (i.e. only Thrusting damage) Try do it without armour, or try to do it with only the heaviest armour possible. Or if you want try something like only being able to use a single attack. Like you can use any weapon, but only 2-handed strong attack or something weird like that
The no scaling or odd stat requirement weapons are awesome low level. Silverknight sword is awesome with its base damage and moveset
I appreciate the fact that you didn't just hack the crossbow in and decided to get it in-game.
Doing this whole challenge with camera drift makes it that much more of an accomplishment.

It would have been nice if they took a page out of Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, and let you use the right stick when locked on, to move your aimto different parts of the body.
