Rabbi of the Pure Hearts : Inside Lev Tahor - the fifth estate

2014 ж. 11 Там.

Life in the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community of Lev Tahor is supposed to be simple: the rules for dress, diet, schooling, marriage and worship are clearly defined and closely followed. But last November, in the middle of the night, about 200 members of the sect fled their homes in Quebec to start a new community in Chatham, Ontario, amid allegations of child neglect. Now the sect is fighting to keep more than a dozen children that a Quebec court ordered removed from their families. Recently released search warrants show Quebec provincial police have been investigating allegations of unlawful confinement and physical abuse of children within the sect, as well as marriage of underage girls to much older men.
Their ongoing legal battles are raising an old dilemma: when does a group’s right to religious freedom get trumped by society’s obligation to protect children? It’s also prompted a lot of questions about life inside the secluded community - and the past of its charismatic leader, Rabbi Shlomo Helbrans. The fifth estate’s team travelled from New York to Israel to investigate his murky history, and host Gillian Findlay spoke to people with an intimate knowledge of his past. With unprecedented access to the community in Chatham, including first-hand footage of a police raid there and an extensive interview with Helbrans, ‘Rabbi of the Pure Hearts: Inside Lev Tahor’ reveals the challenges of life in the Jewish sect.
A joint investigation with Radio Canada's Enquete program
Original airdate : February 28th, 2014

    • Its always the same in the Americas - religions get away with things other organizations couldn't - and that tax free, too! Being automatically listed as charities with charitable status. Often these leaders are 'self proclaimed', without genuine scholarly qualifications and place themselves between their followers and God. They use undue influence to indoctrinate children and young people. They isolate people to control the information they can access.

    • Well. I had been not able to understand one thing. Who can be more loving, caring and well-wisher of Thier children then the parents, who suffers to raise their kids or an organisation or state, who are so called protector of the future of kids? can anyone tell me honestly that who is better? Who is the natural guardian or self created imaginary legal entity called state? State owns the children but these who gave them birth and raised them have got no right on their own offsprings? I had not been able to understand the critisim of enlightened ppl on undreage marriages as In your own society a 12 year old girl can give birth (certainly she ain't a child). In your self defined well behaved culture 79% young girls below your legal age are not virgin. For God sake. Repent and follow the reality

The state needs to enforce an open door policy on cults. Every single member should be available for private conversations with officials or outside family members at a moment's notice. But in later centuries the rich (and only the rich) could afford to eat meat and they did not like that vegetarian part of the Gosple. No problem, the copiers (bibles were handwritten) got new instructions and - tadaah - the vegetarian lifestyle was gone. True or not? Things like that is the reason many religions stick to oldfashioned books: closer to the origin. Call it going backwards...

That reconnection didn't occur until around the 19th century which is why the substance and beliefs before then and around that time were full of contradictions, many of which still exist but remain overlooked today.

The floor would be COVERED in orthodox, I guess, take out food containers. These " millionaires ' would sleep there at least every day we worked. We would turn a 250,000.00 house into a house they would sell for 1 Million. I found it very odd. While there was culture ' Shock ', it was still odd. They had freezers-industrial sized - where they stored furs and fur coats. The hanging isles of coats were tagged with names. One was Dolly Parton. Don't ask cause I don't know- this is what I saw. • Each time the "Rabbi" gets asked a question, he responds with "never never never (repeat ten times) ever". The more someone says something, the less it's true. People who speak the truth only have to state the truth once. Liars repeat themselves again and again to convince everybody else that they are speaking the truth.

I'm not saying I agree with it. I don't say I disagree with it I just know those are two of the commandments that they must go by.

They have their own buses, police, ambulance, court houses ran out of homes etc. They just get away with it cause they'll claim religious practices and that "anyone" (outside their religion) can use the services but that's all lies.
