Harden steel form & no welding bearings, that what I call skill & common sense. Great Job, a true maker, who learned skill & made a lasting bender.
This mechanism is very much suitable for Mild steel only anything stronger than that will be difficult to bend. But a good idea. Thanks for sharing

Nice project. Only problem is only about 0,001% of guys have milling mashines lying around at home.
@DIY Useful Ideas does a lot of improvised milling functions with an old school lathe and what might be a fairly garden variety drill press & vise clamp; all of which can acquired relatively cheaply secondhand if you're prepared to take your time and have more sense than money whilst you're learning. I think the @DIY Useful Ideas presents this DIY bending tool as made with relatively modest set up. They aren't endorsing some brand, or otherwise subtly showing off new and flashy stuff they have access to. People shouldn't get so over excited about the tools and gadgets specifically, but rather what is being done at each step with regards to the component.
DIY, just needs a lathe, drill press, angle grinder, mill, assortment of vises, various other tools, workbench, mig welder, tempering/melting oven and raw stock. And that lathe he has there, it might be oldschool, but that doesnt make it cheap. They dont make them like that anymore. All told that is easily $30k of equipment and a space to put it all (i.e. a machine workshop).
Meh, I have TWO lathes, far too many welders and I'm not far from a mill. This sort of thing is right up my alley. Lathes tend to start at about $500, they're a dime a dozen these days.
dontnubblemebro you mean cheap cineseium lathes that last about 5 minutes. or you mean oldschool lathes you can pick up at an auction and drive them home yourself. ever looked into what it costs to ship a ton of lathe thousands of kilometers in central europe, let alone from overseas, because there just arent any old machine auctions within half a thousand kilometers from where you live?

Well, I don’t have a lathe, but I can cut the slots with my Bridgeport and endmills better than you can
You can run a boring head and "turn" some things on a bridgeport running a standard boring bar flipped backwards and run in reverse. You can also put small stock into a collet, put the lathe cutting tool into the vise and turn od's and grooves such as snap ring grooves in short bar stock. You are limited but it can be used for some work that most think of as lathe work only.

Oh my God never reach into a lathe and pull out chips while it's running god!!! I damn near lost two fingers on my left hand from chips getting tied up on a Chuck and I wasn't even doing anything like that
Even with pliers it can pull it out of your hand and throw it back at you.

@Infinite Loop it's mild steel though isn't it? You can't harden mild Steel you can make it shatter and brittle but you won't really make it harder or tougher
That wasn’t even close to hot enough to harden, mild steel questions aside.

Great job, but reason why I tumb down it was simple. Not everybody have milling machines like you.. This kind of DIY means if cant effort it do it yourself.
