I wish someone would do a video on all of the symptoms of pregnancy that no one really talks about- like urinary incontinence and hot flashes- but also how the hardest part of being pregnant isn't really the physical aspects, but the mental and emotional toll that being pregnant takes. Its months of interrupted sleep and constantly monitoring your position so you're not laying on your back or stomach. Its depriving yourself of your favorite foods or drinks- whether because they're unsafe for baby or because food aversions mean you can't eat roasted vegetables anymore. Its drinking so much water that you get tired of the way water tastes. Its how carrying a basket of laundry upstairs is suddenly so much harder than it was a month before. Its the way your belly gets in the way when you're doing dishes. All of these things add up. Pregnancy is a huge disruption to any person's way of life. And its exhausting. I'm in week 33 of my second pregnancy....and im so tired of being pregnant. Thats the worst part.
yep
For these reasons, I feel good about getting pregnant because I have a chronic illness and have had to learn how to cope with not feeling well constantly. It’s the ongoing agony over time that wears you down physically and mentally. Thank god the doctors say I should actually feel better while pregnant. I can’t wait!
Yes. Not enough people talk about how traumatic pregnancy can be for some. Especially those with hyperemesis gravidarum.
I feel this!!!!! I'm 30 weeks pregnant and really appreciate this post.
Yes! And apparently you have postpartum hair loss after?? I am only 17 weeks with my first so I still have some of the things on your list to look forward to... lol. But having to change my sleeping position that I have grown accustomed to for the past 30+ years to become a side sleeper has been really hard. I also feel like it's hard to go out to dinner because I have to consider all the things I cannot have and also how things were cooked for meats that it's a bit exhausting and makes me just want to stay home and cook my own meal because I know everything in it and such. I am very thankful to be pregnant though since it took us a while but it can be stressful and emotionally & physically exhausting at times!
As a female, I am absolutely terrified of getting pregnant.. but my mom did it 11 times! And gave birth 7 of those times! It’s crazy how female bodies are so adaptive and strong.
I was always scared too and then I found out at 5 months I'm pregnant lol I got sooooo scared. One day my baby suddenly kicked when I just got out of shower. My heart literally jumped out of me! If someone explained me pregnancy this way, I would have been terrified...and i am a man.... Sounds like a lot can go wrong and might even kill you....
And this is why childbirth and other pregnancy-related issues used to be one of the most common causes of death for women. Even today, maternal mortality is still a big problem in developing nations and marginalized groups. So much can go wrong, and without support they might not make it.
@NTX what?
Nah, there are many health benefits too. The first thing which comes to mind is that the baby's stem cells help repair the cells of the mother.

I’m in my first trimester. It’s good to know all the bad things I’m feeling are normal and natural. I’m a working mom to be in the healthcare field and it’s so hard physically.
Pregnancy is amazing it’s the miracle of life. I was pregnant and had experience all these symptoms for 7 months, then my baby passed away in my womb. I gave birth to her without epidural, it’s the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. Unfortunately, a lot women feel alone when they have stillbirth because people were there for them when they were pregnant but not after when they give birth to a sleeping baby, and that’s the time where they need the most support. A lot of people don’t want to talk about this because it makes others uncomfortable but that is part of the problem. People need to know about this because even if you set it aside and ignore it, it’ll happen to someone you know and they are suffering in silence. Ted Ed, I hope you make a video bout the subject to bring some kind of awareness.

This is another huge reason why pregnancy and childbirth will always be a woman's choice to continue or not. Men, you really need to sit this one out.
having a choice all by yourself means more responsibility and pressure not relieve, you won't get this until you face that kind of situation

Lovely. Likening one of the most natural and fulfilling things a human can do to that of a disease. Bet your professor was tons of fun at parties.

I cried watching this because I’m so scared (first pregnancy) I all want for me and my baby is to be healthy and strong. I hope I’m doing everything right.
Im a girl, and im scared for life rn..
Same. I don't want to be pregnant

Lina u don't have to! I'm 20 and 23 weeks pregnant and its not that terrible. 🥴

we gotcha homie
This is a fantastic visial explination, thank you TED-Ed for your continued goal in education. I have refered to many of your videos for help and explanation on subjects.
I don't think my body or mind could handle something like this. Moms and pregnant women deserve so much respect
My mind cant handle this but I'm still pregnant :( (my IUD dislocated after I had it checked)

this is such a great video. On top of being informative, it's also hilarious!
The human body amazes me so much we don't even know what's going on inside us, but things are happening and its wild 😂
If I wasn't childfree already, this video would have made me.
Yes, me too. Scared the heck out of me lol. But I still don't mind educating myself.

To all the mommas, who have given birth, are pregnant, and the angel mommas, and to my mom, I have no words. Women are freaking warriors for enduring the complications, risks and discomforts of pregnancy and birth. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️❤️❤️❤️. You are incredible!
Foster mothers: 👁👄👁
i find it soo so soooo fascinting how not only our uterus but our whole body works so hard, makes me appreciate my body even more !!
I just gave birth for the first time 7/17/2022. It really does change your entire perspective. It’s truly life changing experiencing what our bodies do to accommodate us as the mothers in order to create life. It’s beautiful.

As a current preggers, I can really appreciate this! I've been through chemo several times and a lot of these symptoms are very similar. The human body is amazing and I feel blessed to continue my own life as well as bring in another 😊💕

I’m officially 4 weeks post partum , I wish I could find more videos that explain what my body is going through right now recovering from being pregnant for 9 months
So true, it's a mystery!
Dude, “The Fourth Trimester” Kimberly Anne Johnson. It’s on Audible and it helped me through some shite
Yea that's right and it is more important too as we are going through this alone, in the sense there is no baby inside, it is just our body.

Seriously. I'm 4 weeks postpartum and would like to know when this carpal tunnel is going to go away. I don't get to enjoy holding my baby and picking her up cuz of it. :(
Wonderful explanation and entertaining animation. I loved this. Very informative
This is so helpful to know! I’m due March 18/22 of 2022 and I get really nervous about my symptoms. Knowing what’s normal and not so normal is very helpful and calms me down.

“Effective treatment when needed” sure! Half of these doctors don’t even want to listen to you. I be going to my obgyn and he just wants to finish the appointment as soon as possible. No doctor takes the time to sit and understand or even see what’s going on.
I'm 14. I've never wanted to get pregnant, it has always scared me. This video just confirmed that fear. But that doesn't mean I never want to be a mom. Most likely, I'll adopt or be a foster mom. That thought just fills me with so much joy ❤️❤️
You're 14. You shouldn't need to worry about that and hopefully you never will (worry that is. Being a mom is up to you.)
I always thought that too, but I'm 26 and we are expecting our first. It's the most incredible, exciting thing that's ever happened to my body and I'm already so in love with this tiny human we made 😍 enjoy being young, don't try to grow up too fast. Enjoy your youth. Children can wait.
I'm 14 too and I'm also really scared of pregnancy and don't want kids but if I ever want them I'll most probably adopt too
Adoption or fostering is a very compassionate and selfless act! Nobody says we need to give birth ourselves to be a mother! if you have lots of love to give to the world, anyone can receive your love, animals or humans who need a home! ❤️ I’m 39 this year :)

I'm fortunate I am able to be a housewife. I was accustomed to the lifestyle before my firstborn, and now I am ready with my second on the way. I am able to witness every single point of their progress and learning. I actually did have a traumatic labor the first time. I hemorrhaged and had a lot of complications because of it. I even had postpartum depression bordering on postpartum psychosis. I made it through it all, and I still wanted a second child. Pregnancy is so worth it to me. I love my little family.
I’m pregnant with my first and it’s crazy knowing there’s a little person growing inside me who’s literally rearranging my entire body and life 😂. I’ve worked with kids for 15+ years and didn’t really want any for myself (working with kids is the best birth control), but I gotta say I’m really excited to meet my little dude.
U hope you're doing well sweetheart 🥺💓💓💓
best wishes for you
