Born in Kherson, Ukraine in 1989, Sergei Polunin/Сергей Полунин is a Russian ballet dancer. Famous for his "once every hundred years" talent, he has incredulous elevation and impeccable technique. From an early age, he displayed glorious dramatic range. Home videos of him as a small boy improvising to Pavarotti are very foretelling. At age 19, he became the youngest ever male principal dancer with London's Royal Ballet company.
Ballet gained an unprecedented new awareness when he danced in Hozier's viral video "Take Me To Church." People who would never have paid any attention to ballet began to watch the tattooed phenom. He is generally attributed with bringing ballet to the modern common man. Classical, yet cutting edge, Sergei starred in Diesel's "Make Love Not Walls" campaign and has put his mark on many other promotions.
Sergei is a much sought after model and actor. Fashion designers love his breathtaking physique and brooding good looks. He has garnered only positive reviews for his acting. His appearances include Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of the Orient Express, the biographical documentary Dancer, The White Crow, and Red Sparrow.

He is extraordinary. Beyond extraordinary. You cannot take your eyes off of him. He gave up everything to give his life to the ballet. The most passionate, extraordinary talents have always driven themselves beyond the breaking point since they were young children. Phenomenal hard work and explosive precision. His strength....just in awe!

Not only is he an exceptional dancer, but he has a stage presence like no other! I could watch him just stand there and it would be exciting. I don't know what it is other than natural charisma.

Incredible flow and lightness of movement.
IMO, he is the best male ballet dancer ever. I've seen others greats but no one else has that special tamed beast. The grace, power, arrogance and perfection he's shown since he was a child is unmatched. Just amazing how his jumps start off with a roar of power then lands with such graceful precision. No wobbling or extra unsteady steps. I recommend his documentary "Dancer" to everyone. You can really tell how he compares to peers in that show. Thanks for the video. Love watching him dance.

All of those guys are good but if you watch "Dancer" there is a scene from his class. He was around 13 or 15 and he just has this gift. In that one scene he was perfection and so beyond anyone else. At such a young age. Blew my mind.

Недавно послушала интервью с участием Сергея Полунина. Интеллектуален, воспитан, на провокации не ведется. Тот случай, когда в человеке все прекрасно. А танцор = нет слов. Когда смотришь все партии балетов, то хочется жить, все беды куда-то уходят. Прекрасно, что мы живем в одно время с ним и наслаждаемся его творчеством. Счастья его семье, его мальчикам.

Can’t forget video I saw of how men’s ballet has changed in the last 100 years. In the past, the men were downright fat and just there it seemed to lift the ballerinas. Now they’re world class athletes!
Hah! Yes there was a time not too, too long ago, men were almost scenery and props there just to make the girlies look good. NOW, we have Sergei, who has more than once been called "the male dancer who makes ballerinas disappear" lol!

Somehow KZhead recommended a video of this dancer in Japan dancing to "Moonlight Sonata". While I didn't particularly care for the dance itself, I was blown away by the dancer, and kept thinking I saw shards of Baryshnikov though him. Very strong, athletic and powerful dancer with an artistic ability that begs you to watch him.
There are a few good ballet dancers in the USA but NOBODY even close to this! Russian ballet dancers have always set the upper limits! Throughout history all the greatest ballet dancers have had Russian names!
Deborah Shaw he was born in ussr, his name is russian not ukrainian, and he regards himself as russian. From 4 to 13 he was trained in ukraine which had and still has (I hope) its choreographic education methodology based on old russian-soviet school.
@@pinkrage9224 Ukraine was a part of the ussr, a distinctive one, as much as russia. Why not call it ukrainian-soviet school then? He is Ukrainian or British, if you like, but in his origin he has no relation to russia whatsoever.

His father has Russian ethnicity (not sure about his mother) and so does Polunin himself that's why you read everywhere "Ukrainian born" and that's why Ukraine blacklisted him. As for school of ballet -- in Ukraine ballet theater was founded in 1867 and in Russia in 1776. So, who made the base for ballet education in Ukraine decide for yourself.

So what? And nobody blacklisted Polunin from Ukraine. Even though I personally don't fancy much his attitude towards the Ukraine-russia conflict. А при чем тут они, Сергей сам по себе, а они сами по себе, тем более их век в Большом был коротким, а без Большого это все лишь один из хороших танцоров, но не больше
@@user-wr4hm2un8q без Большого нет балета, от слова вообще, основные сцены, как вы говорите, это потребители, Большой и Мариинка, только там рождаются звёзды, как танцоры, так и постановки, все значимые участники только там получают знак качества, а потом уже получают признание в остальном мире, Барышников и Нуриев, после отъезда, были в лучшем случае соло, участвуя во второразрядных труппах, деньги стали для них эквивалентом искусства
