  • The zombies is actually creepy af. They are a brainwashed stalkers, that relieving their memories from before they became this, stuck in a loop from leftovers of a life and attack you against their own will. Their idle voice lines is just that dreadful. "A little bit left... To go. I'm just need... To find a way" "Daughter, dear, dad soon will be home" "Spring is coming soon. So warm. Just like at home." "Please, don't hurt me, dont, it hurts" "Blood, bleeding, i'm bleeding... Mommy" It's like the last stages of dementia, absolutely gutwrenching stuff. Beautiful game, even if it is a jankfest.

    • @@arithmetikmilitantpoetry9548 I'm playing G.A.M.M.A. right now, and let me tell you, the progression is fucking brutal. Traders don't sell suits or weapons anymore, so you can only obtain them by looting corpses or stashes. But hold up, gear looted from corpses/stashes is ALWAYS at like 10% condition or less, making it completely useless until you fix it up. So you find a mechanic, but hold up, the mechanics can only repair the item's overall condition, which no longer matters because suits and weapons now have parts which have their OWN condition bars, and mechanics can't repair these. So you need to repair the parts yourself using other items, or buy new parts in good condition, but hold up, you can't actually swap them out without toolkits (that is, the Basic, Fine and Calibration tools from Call of Pripyat). Can you buy these toolkits, or find them in specific locations? Fuck no, they spawn completely randomly in stashes, of course. And how do you get stashes? By completing tasks, looting PDAs from corpses, or just straight-up paying traders for stash locations. And remember, this is a complete lottery - you could find a toolkit in your very first stash, but you're just as likely to grind the game for hours, searching dozens of stashes, and not get a single one. But at least you can grind up money by collecting and selling artifacts so you can just buy stash locations until you get a toolkit, right? Of course not, silly, artifacts ALSO have condition bars now, and pretty much ALL of them spawn in low condition meaning you can't sell them. Apparently, you're supposed to buy a device called the "Artifact Melter" from Ecologists, which lets you literally melt artifacts together to increase their condition, and THEN you can sell them. But what if you can't afford it, or don't have the gear to survive long enough to reach either Yantar or Jupiter, which is the whole fucking reason why you want to grind artifacts in the first place? Well, then you're shit outta luck, and you simply don't GET to collect and sell artifacts even though that's the main reason why people trespass into the Zone in the first place. TL;DR: Just play vanilla Anomaly instead, or manually install a handful of addons that you like. Don't touch G.A.M.M.A. unless you're a seasoned S.T.A.L.K.E.R. veteran looking for a new, challenging experience, and/or want to suffer because pain is the only thing that makes you feel alive anymore.

Wild Territory and Agroprom are especially notorious for spawning giant hordes of hostile NPCs. • RE: The Series; Excellent idea for a longer-form treatment of the classic, unmodded STALKER. IMO, it's probably the finest computer game of its type from its period, and it was up against stiff competition. Notice just how much it resembles something Bethesda might have conceived but never ever delivered on, and while it has RPG elements it ends up being more about understanding the underlying Jank of the in-game universe. The next time you play through, you'll notice a big difference during the opening acts as you make your way to the Barkeep for the first time (again). Couple of quick items I'm a little surprised about. Item: No mention yet about the ambitious level design, taking whole square kilometers of real-world geography and stitching them together with loading screens, mostly without breaking the illusion too much. The Zone is what the film "Stalker" called it; the game devs decided on putting the center of the Zone in Chernobyl. And Item: for some reason, I remember Strelok's gun having an integrated sight (and I checked the wikis to see that was a false memory) and also being buffed against damage from use. Downside: there are better guns firing better ammunition, as you've revealed.

I've played this game once a year, every year since it was released and seeing it through the fresh eyes of someone I don't detest is the vicarious love-in I've needed for at least a decade. I will say tho, you have run into a few of the rarest bugs I know about. Shit I've seen maybe 2 or 3 times since 2007. Lucky guy. The mass spawn of critters that are meant to run off and repopulate the map is a common one though, hilarious, but in some maps it's a real issue.

Also, I know it's your first and blind playthrough, Civvie, but I just want to say one thing: right in the tunnels where you ended the video, you can find a Stalker's corpse. Keep looting and quick save-loading till you get a stash location notification that says something like "Fang's Stash" or something (don't remember the exact words lol). The stash points to a grave in Pripyat that has a special Exoskeleton. Might help you out in late-game in Pripyat and onwards.

  • My single greatest moment in the STALKER series was the third or fourth time I made the trip from the mobile lab back to the bar. My own megapack of dogs came over the hill beside me right as I was approaching the burner anomaly maze. I fired off a couple shots, and then a hasty calculation about costs and resources lead me to turn and *sprint* into the invisible death maze instead. I ran the first 10 meters of the maze purely by memory, then turned to see a couple charred doggo corpses and the rest of the pack turning to flee. Victory over the Zone through knowledge of the Zone. It was a perfect little procedural moment.

I wrote the series off, until I found myself in Afghanistan with a potato for a laptop. The midget in the Ghazni bazaar actually recommended Call of Pripyat to me, and sold it to me on a blank CD-R with "Stalking COP" written on it. To this day, one of the best purchases I ever made.

Some missions give you very good stuff. -Consumables (Salami, Tourist Delight, Bread, etc. aren't expensive and also replenish your HP (in case you run out of meds) - If you stumble upon large pack of dogs, get away from them as far as possible and shoot them (Scoped guns do the job, obviously) Let me know if i missed something

  • Regarding the military outpost and stealing the docs. You can sneak in if you hug the left most boundary fence and use a fallen tree to hop the outpost perimeter fence. If you go in at night most guards will be asleep and you can legit sneak in through a room of snoring grunts and steal the docs. It's like the one true example of a stealth mission in STALKER. But normally a single guard will spot you as you sneak into the barracks and all hell breaks loose. Good times.

  • 2:10 Monolith hates the player (and every other faction) by default in all three games and there is no way to improve the reputation. The only exception to this is in the third game where a small squad of Monolith will be neutral to the player and their leader will ask you to help them get into the area's central hub. The player can ask either Duty or Freedom (whichever you have better reputation with) to let them join their faction. This side mission is important as the squad's leader will be useful to the player during the story mission in which you get to Pripyat.
