In this video, Coach Dan runs us through 7 of his favorite Lower Body exercises for hockey players.
These exercises will work on your overall strength and power in your lower body but also work on important factors for skating like your ankle, hip, and core stability and mobility.
Every hockey player should include these exercises within an off-season training program. If you want a "done for you" program check out our brand new Off-Season Domination '21 System that will have coaches' and scouts' jaws on the floor with how much improvement you've made over this off-season!
Here are the exercises:
0:00 - Intro
0:16 - T-Stands
2:28 - Bulgarian Split Squats
4:26 - Cossack Squats
6:30 - Skater Squats
8:19 - Skater Lunge
10:19 - Forward Skater Bound
12:13 - Nordic Hamstring Curl
14:09 - How To Use These

  • Awesome video! I joined the VIP skills accelerator about 3-4 weeks ago and it is amazing! And also are cold showers good for hockey players?

    • Long story short, they're great for the in-season but bad for the off-season. I wrote an article on the science behind this topic here: www.hockeytraining.com/ice-baths/

  • 10:20 - if you wanna do Skater Bounds outside to avoid resetting, would you space out each bound with any steps or hops?

    @celticstephenhill@celticstephenhill9 ай бұрын
    • Nope, I would likely do continuous bounds in a row without stopping if I had the room. There are variations where you can hop or pause in-between though.

  • Question coach. On the Nordic hamstring curl it appears you are using the same piece of equipment u used for the RFES-Squat. When using this piece of equipment for the Nordic Hamstring Curl. Question finally- does the piece of equipment allow you to do the exercise without any anchoring of the equipment. It seems like it would move? Thanks for posting Ray

    • Hey Ray, yes I was using my split squat stand to secure my legs as I put two heavy dumbbells on either end to hold it down (not the best way to do it but I made it work for the video). • Like I mention at the end of the video, this totally depends on the periodization strategy you're using for the off-season as well as what phase you're currently in. These movements could be performed anywhere from 1-3x per week, but again, you'll want it logically structured in a "big picture" program design for the full off-season. You can check out the link in the video description to check out my off-season program, or if you're interested in learning complete program design you can check out how I set things up last year: www.hockeytraining.com/designing-off-season-program/
