One year on: Bagot Community residents share their stories - Darwin Dan Murphy’s objection
(Note: This video discusses alcohol use, loss, trauma, violence, murder, death and contains references to deceased people.)
Exactly a year ago, communities and health groups in the Northern Territory (NT) successfully stopped Woolworths from building an alcohol megastore in Darwin, at the doorstep of dry Aboriginal communities, after a five-year-long battle.
In this video members of the local Bagot Community, including President of the Bagot Community Advisory Group, Aunty Helen Fejo-Frith, share their stories and personal experiences with alcohol in the community.
Together we continued fighting, even when the odds were against us. This was a huge community victory after years of poor consultation and lack of empathy for community concerns from one of the nation’s biggest corporations.

Sending love to all you lovely people
GREAT
The old saying: you can't eat money. Hope these people get their families lives on track. You are all awesome ❤
Change has to come from inside the community.. they need to be creative and find ways to improve their live and community.. plus we are missing all the Men and Women who have been through Lore. Massive loss of Culture..
So happy about this victory. Let's semd a message that this can be replicated in other black and white communities. Give our children safety and a future
Self determination. Don’t have to buy and drink, it’s a choice, make it the right one 🤷♂️
Turn the pain into purpose...
This fixes nothing, alcohol is available 10am to 10pm we have plenty of other grog shops.Every Woolworths, Coles every pub and so on.
Marginalization of members of society because of cultural and ethnic differences leads to addiction, lack of opportunity and despair. It is the slow but legal tool to achieve genocide and is unconscionable.
Truth worriors...!
I’m finished helpings any off u I’m sorry do something for your selves ! were sick off being blamed at every turn!
One side store
Yeah the ABOS 🎉🎉🎉
Really!!
What do you mean!
Ban alcohol is the only way.
😮ん
Ban the people from bars, bottle shops, pokies. What about the endless royalty monies payed out it hasn't fixed the problems. The last generations fight for equal rights to being allowed alcohol etc 1968.
Yes ofcourse ,money is currency thats important to pay bills and medicine 💊💉??
