Calvin Johnson and Dez Bryant both caught those passes. You know which ones I'm talking about.
Most fans agree with you. The problem is, the NFL came up with a definition of "catch" and neither one of those plays qualified. The problem is the rule -- it is too nit-picky.
Actually what I learned after watching this video is that Dez had several catches that you could make the argument, I was thinking of the one in particular but there are a couple others...and the Calvin one we all know he had it
Nah man they didn’t secure it
If I remember, the next season or the one after, the NFL changed the rules and considered the dez Bryant type catches actual catches.
Dez didn't catch it lol
The Calvin Johnson catch was a travesty of justice That was a catch He only lost possession after his knee hit which means he was down Lion would of won the game Instead they lost😠
He had control of it
And dez and James on that Pittsburgh catch
Jim Schwartz would have had his job a little longer if certain plays had gone differently when he was the Lions coach.
I agree 100% ! That was a touchdown!
You have to survive the ground. It's not a catch. Neither was that Dez Bryant catch that everyone talks about. Dez never had true control of that ball.
Aaron’s first throw was absolutely insane. One of the best plays I have ever seen
Those freakin’ holding calls just suck the life right out of a game sometimes.
I'll never forget, that Brandon Lyod catch. Bummer it didn't count.
Pre-dated the OBJ catch.

@@lambdalambdalambda257 Autocorrect
Yea lyod was good 😂😂😂 Shout out Brandon Lloyd 💯💪🏾
Yeah and he didn't have 1 catch like that for Washington 🤬
No compilation of plays that get called back or not count is complete without a big play called back because of the human holding penalty, Bolles. Bravo.
1:42 honestly, even though it didn't count, it was still an awesome and actually smart play by that lineman. The play was on 3rd down, so after the desperation throw by Tua, that was really the best outcome, considering it gave the Dolphins an extra down. If the ball just falls or is caught with no score, it's 4th down. Hunt making that catch AND getting a TD forced the Ravens to accept that penalty and give them another chance. Of course, Dolphins didn't capitalize on it, but still.
Yo I never thought of that. Assumed the lineman wasn't thinking but actually a heads up play
@@InfiniteInferno totally
The way he landed on his head; he could have been seriously injured.
@@vincentr.6109 true, it did look like a scary fall. It's pretty uncomfortable to rewatch ngl. Lol
Yea that was sick play on Hunts behalf! Glad he didn't get injured, he is great lineman. They should get him eligible during the next goal line scenario during the regular season, that way it actually counts
The Calvin Johnson and Dez Bryant no-catches are travesties to football. Beautiful plays that deserved to stand as catches.
Dez didn’t catch it
@@BruceWayne-kq4ur even for the rules during that era (2014) - I would kindly disagree. Catch, full possession, and a lunge to put the ball over the goal line (which takes care of the “football move”). I’m still surprised to this day that the Sterratore overturned the catch.
@@BruceWayne-kq4ur another Giants fan I see . I hate the Cowboys , but anyone with eye's can see that was a catch . Yet I see you're fandom blinded you though .
Officials ended up saying he caught it. That happened 3 years later, so I guess they didn’t want to waste any time.
Not a catch bro
That moss to Favre throw was so legendary, it was like their first play together too lmao. My family was going crazy 😄
25:00......how is it a blindside block when he squared the guy up running straight at him?
What’s crazy about 12:30 is if dez’s fingers didn’t touch out of bounds, Cowboys would’ve eventually made the playoffs instead of the (at the time) Redskins, Cowboys could’ve rest their starters on the final week meaning Romo wouldn’t have gotten injured that game (weather if they did anything in the playoffs is debatable) The Redskins would have missed the playoffs instead which means RGIII would’ve never injured his knee again too Edit: Romo actually didn’t get hurt that game, my mistake😅 Dez did end up injuring his foot in that game tho
That moment ruined so many careers and franchises
If you’re talking about Romo’s back injury against Washington that was in 2013
@@jasonfire3434 I looked back and I was wrong, he did get hit pretty good a few times but not injured, Dez Bryant did get hurt and missed the rest of the half tho
As an Eagles fan, I vividly remember feeling so awkward cheering for the Cowboys since it was the only way the math worked out if the Eagles wanted to stay alive in the playoff race. That damn glove...
The "at the tim" Redskins comment was unnecessary, but I'll allow it
That Steelers Jesse James one still kills me to this day!
Same bro
It sucks even as a Brady fan but at the time by the letter of the law That wasn’t a catch It’s the rule but it’s a stupid rule
Didn’t have control of the ball
*Somewhere in the NFL Throwback Studios* Boss: "Who's got an idea for the next video?" Some intern: "How about we upset every NFL fan for 32 minutes?" Boss: "You're getting a raise."
need more hard knocks
The Calvin Johnson debackle is when I stopped taking football seriously
Brandon Lloyd low key made some of the greatest catches I’ve ever seen in my life and I’ve been watching football for 47 years
I love how the Steelers and Lions catches touching the ground are here. Even the NFL couldn't get their rules right. It was explained to be early on that the rules are different if in contact with a defender. Both of these wouldn't be catches if a defender was taking the player to the ground at the time. But this seemed to get applied to all catches and not just in contact. Without that contact from a defender, the offensive player has to do less to establish a full catch. Maintaining control and making a move that then causes the ground to jar the ball loose is always a catch.
Both are catches unlike Brandon cooks in 2017
so do I
"Surviving the ground" makes no sense in the end zone. James broke the plane, the play is over at that instant. Johson caught it, had possession with 2 feet, a knee and butt down. What happens after that shouldn't matter.
@@stephenh5944 it does when you are in contact with a defender. You have to complete the catch which means gaining and maintaining possession. If you are being taken to the ground, you must maintain possession through that process. No contact from the defender lessens the requirements for a catch.
@@riffbw James wasn’t touched by a defender until after he had 2 feet and a knee down and broke the plane with the ball. Johnson was clear of the defender with his butt on the turf with possession, but I see what you’re saying. Funnily enough, this WAS called a catch and TD! Different era, I know. kzhead.info/sun/ZbqEk9mMbYZ4nZ8/bejne.html
31:57 Going into this video I had a certain Dez Bryant catch in mind....and they made me wait until the very end, haha nicely done. True football diehards will always say that the Calvin and that last Dez catch were legitimate catches, and I personally feel the Dez catch is one of the greatest of all time. (I'm a Steelers fan btw) why you ask? If you really look at it, he completes the catch AS HE SURVIVES THE GROUND...in other words, he gained control of it the more it played out, that's why it's bogus to say he didn't maintain control. He gradually got control of it throughout the whole crazy process, he didn't grab it and then start losing control of it. You have to really look at it closely. It's at least one of the coolest looking catches. A lot of Antonio Brown, Dez and DeAndre Hopkins throughout this video

Bills jets wildcard 1980, huge comeback almost complete by the jets
@@lopstersharks9385 1981
I was at that broncos colts game 10 rows off the goalpost that Elam whanged an extra point off of. You couldn’t see the north side of the field for the last half of the game. My feet were bricks of ice by the end of the game and I got to high five The Barrellman.
That Tarik Cohen TD at 15:45 should’ve counted cuz he didn’t step out of bounds. That would’ve have been one of the coldest walk off TD’s in NFL History if it would have counted
1:40 the greatest touch down never made. He saved a possible interception because him and the intended receiver/ the RB ran into each other and Tua threw the ball where the RB was supposed to be so good save but he was supposed down the ball. The play isn't dead until he's down so a fumble can be recovered by the defense who can decline the penalty. That run and stretch for the touch down was because he originally was a tight end so he was running on pure reflex after he caught the ball
I agree
Becaused he scored the touchdown, it made it so that they HAD to accept the penalty. Gave them another 3rd down instead of becoming a 4th
@@pangobara8182 that's not how an illegal touch by an ineligible receiver works. The fact that he put the ball across the line before he fumbled meant the play was dead. If he would have fumbled before the line and the defense recovered the ball it would have still have been a live ball. He use to be a tight end so if any lineman was capable of saving us from a possible interception you couldn't have hand picked a better one. Edit: it wouldn't have been an interception but he didn't know that so good effort
Outstanding compilation. Great to see these either again or for the first time. Hope you can find enough for a part 2
NFL Instant Replay From 1986 To 1993 Thanks For Uploading
Still will never forget the Steelers pats game in 2017 I knew there would be an instant rule change after the game
As a Chiefs fan 4:03 will always make so mad. I cried so much that night
Dee Ford is a dumb ass 🤦♂️ how do you line up offsides!!! Especially with that little amount of time on the game and when Edelman muffed a punt earlier in the game the refs didn’t call it so that is another thing to add salt to the wound but at least u guys got your super bowl a year later it’s been a quarter decade since my team has even made it to the conference championship I think you can guess what team that is
So much was lost on that play. It would've been Gronk's last target since he retired after the '18 season. Brady woulda been stuck at 5 rings and possibly retires, passes the torch to Mahomes. Chiefs become the Pats dynasty slayers after Seahawks failed 4 years earlier. Now, today, in 2022 reality, Brady & Gronk have rings on BOTH sides of Mahomes one. Last count -Brady 7 Mahomes 1 instead of 5 to 2. All this is now true NFL history. All because of Dee Ford was offsides on a play he didn't matter!!! That hand planted on the grass ended up being a THREE RING SWING!!! Oh my God. Brady/Mahomes/Brady instead of Mahomes/Mahomes .
Same
@@pewsterbaby If Dee Ford was On-side, there wouldn't of been an interception.
I'm surprised they didn't include the Tuck Rule. That changed the outcome of a playoff game and, arguably, some careers and franchises.
u know the pats lost a game due to the tuck rule earlier tht year, so not really as career defining as everyone makes it seem, Brady had a college chip already lol and the raiders were still subpar, so what really changed bcuz even if they lose, Tom still starts and the rest is history
@@thedevilsrockstxr2309 the nut hugging would be less prevalent
Leading off with the greatest catch that didn't count. Watched that game live. Absolutely unbelievable that they didn't realize he caught that thing. And then Jon Baldwin too. I think he was a combo of poor: coaching, atmosphere, and drive. Kid could've been great.
Chiefs fan here dying at this video. Hill caught that thing and Reid should have challenged it. Refs were incompetent too and guessed at the call. Baldwin was insane on that. I wish he had worked out. But we got this crazy highlight. Then there's Dee Ford. I'm still mad at him.
I'm not even a Detroit Lions fan but that Calvin Johnson reversal makes me so mad to this day
That was a bad call
I have suggested this many times. I am glad to see that it has finally been made. Next suggestion I am waiting for, plays that were more than just their stat line. For example, Marion Barber's 2 yard run vs the Patriots where he broke several tackles and avoided a safety.
The whole video would be just Barry Sanders runs.
Great set of plays, though you are missing the Bears/Packers fake fair catch on a punt return. It went for a touchdown (the Packers all chased down the guy signaling fair catch, while someone on the other end of the field actually caught it), but was called back for a holding penalty.
Man so many of these are real heartbreakers.
Dez is a god at this
That Rodgers play was beautiful
I know there were a lot of scoring plays in this list, but I'm kind of surprised to not see THE Derrick Henry stiff arm. The internet loved that one, but it was another play called back due to penalty.
me to
Can't believe they did not include the Zach Miller catch where he broke his knee on play where he scored a touchdown against the Saints!
right idea but it was far worse than just a broken knee
That Jesse James call is one of the worst I’ve seen. As an Eagles fan I was hoping they didn’t make the same mistake on Ertz’s GW TD in the SB
@Phil Stegman had it long enough to turn and extend it. Just bc you’re a referee doesn’t mean you’re right.
@Phil Stegman made a football move It's a TD
I am a Steelers fan and that hurt us big time it should have been a touchdown
Calvin Johnson caught it :(
Boy as a Steelers fan I’ll tell you that Miami game where browns foot just barely caught out of bonds kills me every time I watch it lol I swear it was like 2 toes out lmao. Oh well it happens 🤷🏻♀️
Thanks for another great video! If you guys are taking game requests, I'd recommend Week 17 Giants vs Eagles.
Thanks for the video NFL Throwback! I know this may be a hard question, does anyone happen to know any games that had a fight or brawl occur which resulted in more than 2 disqualifications? Here are some that I do know: 1. Browns-Steelers 2019 (3 ejected) 2. Dolphins-Bengals 2020 (3 ejected) 3. Bengals-Raiders 2012 (3 ejected) 4. Bears-49ers 2018 (3 ejected) 5. Giants-Rams 2014 (4 ejected) 6. Cardinals-Bears 1986 Preseason (4 ejected) 7. Bills-Oilers 1987 (4 ejected) 8. Oilers-Steelers 1987 (3 ejected) 9. Cardinals-49ers 2017 (3 ejected) 10. Raiders-Broncos 2017 (3 ejected) (I’m mainly looking for games from the 1980’s, 1990’s, and 2000’s)
Cardinals @ 49ers 2017 (3 ejected) Broncos @ Raiders 2017 (3 ejected)
@@phillyeaglesforlife5127 Oh yeah, that 49ers-Cardinals fight occurred in Week 9 on the same day when the AJ Green-Jalen Ramsey and Mike Evans-Marshon Lattimore incidents occurred. Also, that Raiders-Broncos fight was between Michael Crabtree and Aqib Talib. Gabe Jackson was ejected for pushing an official during the brawl. Tbh I forgot about those 2 lol.
@@steelersfan1903 I Agree With You Guys
That one play I would remember that was wiped out by a penalty is that 100 some yard interception return TD during the Lions Falcons 2014 game. If the penalty wouldn't of happened, that would of been amazing.
That lineman screen for the Dolphins tho🔥
the Brandon Lloyd one hander not counting absolutely hurt my soul 😮💨😮💨💯
I would have called my attorney and take that shit call to court!!
What a GREAT idea for a list!
I see you saved the most painful one as the last one 😭💀😤
I'll never forget being at Bucs-Steelers on MNF (Fitzmagic szn) and DJax had an epic, super-clutch punt return TD called back for holding. Haven't had a mood swing like that in my life 🙃
I just burst out laughing out how they ended on the famous dez caught it 😂😂😂
The great Game of Inches! So many amazing moments
I remember the Brees record breaker being called back, what I'm a little fuzzy on is didn't they end up having to kick a field goal and he didn't get the record until the next drive right?
I love the Devin Hester one, they rescinded the return because of the flag and made them punt it again just for him to run back AGAIN 💯🤣🤣😭😭😭
😩So much pain & joy in this video!
Believe it or not, that 2nd play was something I could do ever since I started throwing the ball with my dad in the front yard, I did so well for so long and then I was told I couldn't play anymore because of my health (epilepsy) etc. Still breaks my heart I never got to make it up there.
Sorry to hear. I have epilepsy as well but fortunately I was cleared to play from pop Warner all throughout high school. I got lucky I suppose. Feel for ya tho.

1:55 Even Troy Aikman enjoyed that play!
This is a great video thank you for uploading it NFL Throwback and some of these plays I think they should have counted
Jesse James TD being over ruled was another Patriot blessing that they always seem to get by the officials. The Steelers would have won the Super bowl with the team they had.
What year was that
Quite often, those holding penalties that negated a touchdown were the only reason the QB had time to make the throw - it's pretty hard to throw a TD pass when you have just ben flattened by a pass rusher that just beat one of your O-linemen, who grabbed the rusher in order to save his QB's life!
This is incredible. And hard to watch! It's gut wrenching!
I still remember the Jimmy Smith pick six had me jumping up and down and screaming to the point where I almost lost my voice. That pissed me off so much. Still ended up being fine though because we won that game with a whole bunch of backups starting 👍
I dont care who your team is, if you're a football fan these are heartbreaking. Good video
I can’t believe this left out Emmanuel Sanders catch against the Browns in 2015. that play was insane
Calvin caught it, never forget it
Dez caught it! Should’ve been nfc champ game that year against Seattle (which we would’ve probably won, maybe even the super bowl?) Jesse James caught it. Pittsburgh should be #1 seed that year and win it all had it stood. Calvin Johnson caught that ball, unfortunately, no miracles happen for the lions that year in 2010
Oh for sure Steelers would've walked through playoffs and got our 7th title
The reason all three of these were called "incomplete" is because the NFL decided to come up with a new rule that gave a very specific definition of "catch". To most fans, all three of these looked like catches. But according to that rule those "geniuses" came up with, all three were incomplete. I feel bad for their fans -- you couldn't have had worse timing on all those calls.
Rodgers had 4 whole minutes left. Chances are cowboys would’ve lost anyways.
Way to dig deep and find the plays peeps, a lot of these would be on top ten lists everywhere if they would have stood!
The cover pic of dez breaks my heart. Such an amazing play, dez Bryant’s finger going out of bounds was the start of the giants Super Bowl run.
I will never not be bitter about that Dez "non-catch" against the packers. Breaks my heart every time I think about it.
Dez CAUGHT IT!!!
I love how the last video is of Dez and the "no catch" 😂
the antonio brown catch vs the saints at 20:10 should count lol... his heel touched in bounds before the rest of his foot touched out of bounds
That's right! Show a little flexibility. That was a legendary play and he got robbed!
I tuned in for the Moss to Farve pass. It was AMAZING to see in the moment, then the flag lands.
15:30 Makes me wonder how many total KR/ PR touchdowns regardless of flags Devin Hester has had

The very last clip, thats a catch. I am not a cowboys fan but he had control of the ball.
He "had" control but did not "maintain" control after he hit the ground. Therefore, by the definition of "catch" the NFL created, the pass is incomplete. Most fans feel it was a catch, but by the NFL rules, unfortunately it isn't.

As a younger cowboys fan i cant tell you how shity the ruling of the Dez Bryant catch was. 3 years of 8-8 and we finally put together a good enough group to take it up to green bay and we lose on that. Something later ruled as a catch years after, smfh. The football gods are crewel.
Yeah I feel like the Cowboys really had a chance at winning the Super Bowl that year. Dez and the Cowboys were robbed of that catch, and Packers fans know it
