    @xxbigbangxx1@xxbigbangxx14 жыл бұрын
    • That phrase alone didn't kill his development. You are asuming that because he says it he must really think it. But Jaime has been pretending the entire show. He says what other expect him to say. Or what will kill their hopes he will do the right thing. He did the right thing. And it killed him inside. Worse of all, he still wants to. But it hurts, and he knows it, so he tryes to pushed aside people expectations of him. His expectations of himself. I did believe that when he said those words he was lying through his teeth. So that Tyrion wouldn't plee, wouldn't rise him to action. So that he could just give up, die by dragon and rest. Be done with it all. At that time he was still SER Jaime Lannister, or could have been. It's the end, the fact he actually wanted Cersei and all it came with her, the fact he failed to change, to forgive himself, to raise, what killed all the character development he had. It's not a phrase, not something so simple as a few words. It's that they undid every progression he had done until chapter 8x02. Every episode undoes a whole season. In the end, though, there was still time. If he only rejected Cersei, at the very end, and in turn did something heroic, like sounding the bells himself, going through the fire and the ruins, save the city before Cersei, save the people, the innocent, we would feel different about his end. He could still die in vain, the tower oblitared by Drogon and its fire, die as a hero but his sacrifice going unnoticed and always remembered the same way he was at the beggining as a man with no honor and a villain when he's actually the one who bleed the most, but that's a tragedy. We like a little bit of tragedy from time to time in our stories. Instead he dies being the same person that pushed Brann from the tower, before all his actions, his nickname, and his beliefs had been put into context. Just a guy who had the hots for his sister. Nothing more. That's what trully kills what the character was.

      @SelvenXXUP@SelvenXXUP4 жыл бұрын
    • @@SelvenXXUP Interesting view, I disagree, but I like it. I just think that Jaime's character development was not that bad, even in season 8, but the problem with the season 8 is that all the characters were not written well, everything lacked depth, reason, logic and emotions that would drive characters into what they did in season 8. Okay, Daenerys burned the whole city, but to be honest there was not enough of the 4 components that I just wrote. Jaime did what he did, but there was no depth, reason, logic and emotions. They rushed, so that's the problem too, 6 episodes were just not enough, all the characters seemed impulsive, too instinctive, like 9 year olds, so that is also reason why it sucked, like almost everything after season 4, they didn't develop good story behind every character's act. And the thing about Cersei doesn't kill the character, he loved Cersei throughout the whole show, I kinda expected him to get back to her, what killed the character were his comments how he never cared for innocent or weak, when he killed the king he swore to protect to save the people of King's Landing, his comment how he is hateful, when he really isn't, he never did questionable things because of hate, he did them because of emapthy, love, family or honor. They should've just made it that he loved Cersei more than anything and that he wanted to see her again, it seemed like it is the last chance he'll see her ever again, that would be awesome, good and flawed Jaime poisoned by the love of the woman that didn't deserve him, boom, character not ruined, but his main weakness and flaw got too strong in the end. I mean, the best thing about Jaime is that he is so complicated and the position that he was in is always so complicated, that developing a good story for him was a no brainer, but D&D had to rush it to get Star Wars project, so they rushed and eventually ruined everything.

      @emko1223@emko12234 жыл бұрын
    • No. He didn't go back to her because he 'failed to change'. He didn't go back to her because he failed to 'forgive himself'. He didn't go back to her because she was somehow good.He went back to her because he LOVED her. He went back to her because, like it or not, she was FAMILY. More than just his sister or his lover...she was the mother of his children. He went back to her because she NEEDED him to tell her to run. To tell her not to die in the city. To physically remove her from her danger. He did it so that he could save the one he loved. As Brienne observed, 'It's hateful to fail to save the one you love.' Going back did NOT mean he was becoming Cersei's ally. Going back did NOT mean he was going to enable her poor choices. Going back meant that Ser Jaime Lannister was going to do the right thing for his Love...even if it meant risking death. Especially if it meant risking not being understood for why he did it. Because, he never did really care what you think of his morals...righteous or otherwise.

      @dclark142002@dclark1420024 жыл бұрын
    • @@dclark142002 And that's where horrible romance shows fail friend, the very simple and stupid love stories. No, Jaime's love for Cersei shouldn't drive him to ignore all his surroundings just to get back to Cersei's side. Some examples for that is defending Brienne, keeping his pledge for Catelyn Stark, keeping his pledge to ride North and fight the dead even though it was treason against Cersei of all people, and risking his life to try and kill danaerys in season 7. Remember that when he went to fight in the North, he was completely aware that he is helping Danaerys, the same person that plans to forcefully take King's Landing from Cersei and wouldn't care for a second about whether Cersei lives or not. This is what we all loved about Jaime, this is what made him different, he's a person that seems like he's horrible and everything he does is awful, yet the reality is he's always risked everything to help others. When he went back to Cersei near the end, it was not him. No, don't say that it was because she was in danger and what not cause Cersei has been playing with her life literally from season 1 and even before then. He was ready to die many times during the show, but he didn't do much when Cersei was locked down by the High Sparrow. Imo, Jaime could've done many other things that would've been a good end to his character in here, but the best one would've been to try and stop Danaerys, most likely dying in the process after killing Drogon, thus saving King's Landing once again but without being honored for it because Danaerys would rule afterwards and people won't give an f about him saving the city. As for the white knight x disney princess we got in the show? Yeah... That can definitely go to hell.

Perfect portrayal of someone who wanted to win fair and square. Despite his many, many flaws, he constantly showed a surprising depth of character that somehow made you want to keep rooting for him. His ultimate mistake was not realizing that he could have deserved better by changing his ways and thusly found not only happiness but perhaps peace. And when people were pissed that Brienne so easily defeated him compared to how it was in the book, I figure it's because Nik just could not be better and they cut the scene quickly not to embarrass him too much. lol Nik is however a great horse rider And thank God they focused on his strenghts going forward like when he climbed the stairs of the Sept or when he charged Dany and Drogon. • "That boy had wanted to be Ser Arthur Dayne, but someplace along the way he had become the Smiling Knight instead" Jaime was a boy, hostage in a fancy cape, disillusioned after serving his King and reconciling conflicting oaths of a knight and Kingsguard. His most valiant deed was the one that brought him most shame and was judged by everyone on the spot. No wonder he latched on to Cercei like an addict and poured all his devotion and loyalty onto his family- the only people who had his back. Love-hate relationships were preferable to hate alone. I really don't understand his show ending. Addicts can relapse but there was no time for it to make sense. And it's not his death so much but the motivation that lead him back to Kingslandig. He killed the Mad King for playing with wildfire, only to die WITH the Mad Queen for the same thing? In an accident? D&D clearly couldn't write GRRM style and should've stuck to more straightforward solutions.

  • What makes A Song of Ice and Fire great is the depth of it's characters. Not one but many characters has such a dept in themselves. This puts GRRM in the throne in my head. Look at Jaime for example (first you should forget how the show portrayed the characters especially after 4th season) look at how his character has developed through the series. It is really stunning to experience this journey.

      @kidaria1333@kidaria13332 жыл бұрын
    • @@kidaria1333 Are you nuts? No one expected a happy ending, and the main reason the show's end was not happy was because of how awfully written it was. You know what would have been a fitting ending for Jamie? Jamie dying to protect his new king, whoever that would end up being. Gives this character who never found true purpose a cause he is finally passionate for, and dies in a way that is poetic. But, no, undoes a few seasons of him starting to hate Cersei by him seemingly randomly deciding to change his motivations and go back to King's Landing. Not to mention that fucking conversation with Tyrion. In the most important scene of development for his character, he said, " Tell me, if your precious Renly commanded you to kill your own father and stand by while thousands of men, women, and children burned alive, would you have done it?", and then in this season he says, "I never really cared much for them, innocent or otherwise". What a fucking awful thing to do for his character. I'm sorry to be sounding so pissed off but what the hell do you think was good about that season end, or realistic?

    • @@christiansanchez2088 They didn't though. The entire point of Jamie's character development wasn't that he was a bad person who slowly redeemed himself. His character development was that he wasn't a villain or a hero, but rather a complex man with admirable qualities, as well as deep flaws. Jamie going from bad to good would have been the most basic trope. Instead, his arc went full circle, which is a legit character arc. He loves Cersei, unconditionally, and that was his fatal flaw. He has good and bad in him. The bad does not wash out the good, nor the good the bad. He's addicted to Cersei just like a drug addict. Many addicts sober up for a while, but inevitably relapse and go back to the thing they so desperately want to quit. He said it himself, “We don’t choose who we love” and “Why have the gods made me love a hateful woman.” This is actually a very GRRM move by the writers and it most likely came from George himself. GRRM doesn't write predictable story arcs. He doesn't believe in black and white characters. He loves blurring the lines and creating morally gray characters which is exactly what Jamie is. It's a good end to his story and he died like he always wanted to; in the arms of the woman he loves.
