Travellers Notebook Standard Size

Without a doubt this is the most useful journal size or notebook I create, as you'll see in this video I run my life with them and I'm never that far away from one. The standard sized Travellers Notebook is an essential for me and in this video I'll show you an alternative way to do the three hole phamplet stitch as well as give you a few cheats along the way.

  • I've seen so many crafters, when doing a pamphlet stitch, faffing with measurements. The fact you just stab in the middle and a bit in from top/bottom, just reassures me (as a newer crafter) that precision isn't always the most important thing. Loving your videos Ceri, keep em coming, I'll catch up when my arm is properly mended.

    • To be honest the only time I measure for stitching is if there’s multiple signatures to see in and I need them all the same.

  • This is my favorite size of notebook to use, Ceri. I tried to buy some new Dyalog books by Dianne Reavely, and they're no longer available on Amazon. I love the black one and the one she makes with her heavier weight paper like in the Dylusions journals. I ordered something different from Amazon, but I like paper that lets me do a lot of water. We'll see. I do always have to remake the commercial ones to convert them to two signatures so I can open it flat. Love this tutorial. Good basic info. Happy new year. Look for the New Year's Streamathon at Paintgirlee's channel. Lots of hoppy streams throughout all of New Years Eve and till 6 p.m. eastern on Sunday. Join in the chat. You could be one of the presenters next year if you like it.

  • You were very quick, did you do a reef knot or a granny knot when tying off your pamphlet stitch? Very few Journal makers on KZhead explain the importance of the reef knot. Right over left then left over right. If you do the knots the same way(granny knot) they can undo more easily. Believe it or not the same applies to tying bows on shoelaces. Kids whose shoes come undone easily tend to do a granny. Thanks for the video.

  • Lovely clear instructions. I make a lot of these in 6 x 4 size, decorate them and package them for gifts. They are very popular. And like you i scour shops for paper to use. Accounting books are good too, especially if wanting to keep a record of spending. I have one in my handbag when we travel, (or used to travel). One thing I have done is made up a word document with just lines on, for the exact size, I.e travellers notebook or 6 x 4. Then I just print them out on copy paper and use them. You can customise these to suit your needs. Thank you Ceri. From a Kiwi Griffiths in New Zealand

  • When punching the holes, I open the book that I’m using (phone book) and place the booklet in the valley of the book. Makes punching easier as you aren’t punching the holes into a bunch of backing papers.

  • So easy to make. I love the way you can switch in and out the notebooks according to what you want. Just a question - the spine on the main cover which holds the elastic, is that strengthened in any way?

    @mimsie732@mimsie7322 жыл бұрын
    • My covers are leather so the spine with the holes in is not strengthened however if it was made of card or fabric based I think I would put some sort of flexible support into it.

  • another great video with detailed instructions….curious; in the beginning when showing us one of the journals' you mentioned a "writing board", I"m very interested in that, did you make one?

    @h7485ibbs@h7485ibbs2 жыл бұрын
    • I make writing boards for journals normally, especially if the pages in the signature have lots of textural elements which means it’d be difficult to write on the pages. I would then create a writing board to put under the page as you write but stored at the back of the journal between the final page and the back cover.

    @Dana-fn5zt@Dana-fn5zt2 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Dana it’s just a little clear pencil case, I have three pens in there a red, a black, a blue, I have a small eraser because I normally write everything I’m to do in pencil and then once I’ve completed that task I rewrite it in pen which gives me a sense of achievement. I have a small pair of scissors and a couple of label trims made from my own digital download of trims. Not much just the essentials for day to day life.

      @CeriGriffiths@CeriGriffiths2 жыл бұрын
  • I know this is an older video. But as you were cutting off the excess width of the pages, i was thinking you could NOT cut the cover. And then score and fold the cover in, glue the top and bottom edge. Leaving you with a little pocket on the front and back covers. Only if you want that sort of thing.

  • Oh, forgot to ask, when you print out digitalis for a journal what weight (gsm) do you use? Thanks, Janara

    @janaralea6028@janaralea60282 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Janara, the paper I use to print digitals on here in the U.K. is Navigator office paper solutions, colour documents, ultra smooth paper. There doesn’t seem to be a gsm or poundage printed on the packaging but it does say 120g.m-2, I’m not sure if that helps or not.

      @CeriGriffiths@CeriGriffiths2 жыл бұрын
    • gsm means grams per square metre, which is written as g[rams per] m[etre]²[squared] in some places, so the paper is 120gsm :)

    @ninasmith1540@ninasmith15402 жыл бұрын
