I've been to Tristan da Cuhna three times on RFA Blackrover. We often transited between Falklands and Simons town, South Africa and stopped off to show the flag. I bought a few cans of beer in the bar, ate the best crayfish I've ever had and bought a souvenir woollen hat with a penguin embroidered on it. I didn't see any penguins there just donkey's cows and sheep. Our ships football team went ashore to play the locals on a very lop sided pitch. Lovely place and people, happy memories. PS, why have you got a bus stop ??? Never thought to ask before.😂
To get to the potato farm where they all work.
I'm from the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, and i love to be an islander!!♥💯 🌴🌺🌺🌺🌸🌴
Thanks for watching 🙂
No crime mass shootings and traffic jams. Paradise
I'd love it here! It feels like perhaps the only safe place in the world with the events unfolding
I would move there immediately if approved. Looks wonderful.
😂 ironic
Not the only place - the Falklands as well. I have lived in the Falklands for 20 years - they can survive anything
I have a Tristan da Cuhna tie! I wore it at a meeting in London some years ago and was delighted that one person in the audience recognised it.
Hi I live on this island just to let u no I live on this island
Looks like heaven to me. I'm from South Africa.
You have a beautiful home 💪 Maybe we could get in contact some time for future videos 🙂
You are very lucky to live here, it looks magnificent 🙂
Peaceful someday I will travel at Helena ascension and Tristan dacuna
Are people from England welcome
As a Portuguese i am very happy for this island still have people on it, and good people.
Licks British balls
Good and informative video!
This tiny island has been the subject of poetry! If I remember correctly it was mentioned in a stanza of an ode by the English poet probably Alfred Tennyson! The ode was in the name of Queen! I read it in the year 1959 in my school! But sadly I don’t remember its lines ! Good old days!
looks like paradise to me..
looks like 'Happy Valley 'to me.
Paradise.
I like the place its a true peace of mind.
I could definitely live there and adapt to the lifestyle.
It really does seem like a simple yet interesting place to live. Thanks for watching 👍
When the population was moved to Britain in 1961, I was 11years old, and I remember seeing 4 Da Cunhian men building a wooden boat, at an event in the Kelvin Hall, in Glasgow. They didn't look like anyone in the video. I thought that they appeared to be very skilled workmen, but also, they looked quite 'primitive'.
Primitive? I think you mean 'inbred'
???? What you mean by that ?? 😭
Amazing interesting island .I would like to visit some day .Extremely remote island .Greetings from Punta Arenas, Chile 🇨🇱 where there are strong winds blowing from the Antarctica
Simple life but idyllic. I love how all the residents muck in and support each other. Stay choosy about who you let in to stay permanently.
In a world which gets more and more mad for me it would be like a small place in heaven if I would have an house there and one or two dogs and take part with this family like community. Best greetings from Germany
Lived for 18 months on an atoll in the Marshall Islands. Great fishing!
Unsurprisingly, great fishing... 😁
Coast Guard Loran Station?
@@waveranger4974 Weather station.
I remember this island's name from Jules Verne's novel, "In Search of the Castaways" (also known as "The Children of Captain Grant")
The portuguese discover of the island was really named Tristão da Cunha. Tristan is spanish.
Greetings from Canada. An excellent presentation. Many thanks for posting.
How fascinating and informative!
Glad you enjoyed it
This place is on my bucket list. I'm fascinated by remote inhabited islands; I'm getting to visit one this summer (Spitsbergen) and this is another one, much harder to get to. Maybe someday.
I visited Svalbard last year, I was expecting a small, isolated settlement like this one, but to my surprise there is quite an international and vibrant community. Longyearbyen, the capital, hosts over 2,000 residents (permanent and temporary) and has direct flights to Norway every day. It's basically a small city with shops, restaurants, hotels and even public transport. I think that having an airport really makes a difference there. However, there are some smaller towns with Russian miners and Norwegian scientists which are harder to reach. If you want to really experience remoteness, try to visit those: Barentsburg, Sveagruva, Ny Ålesund and especially Pyramiden, an old Soviet mining town that can only be accessed by boat in summer and snowmobile/dogsled in winter. Also be prepared for the 24h sunlight up there!
Looks like a great place to live you are lucky to be there.
Beautiful island 😍
This video is amazing, I have fallen inlove with this island just from this viewing 🙂
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve seen documentaries on the island before but not this in depth. So interesting.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Glad you said INHABITED island, as the remotest island is Bouvet Island....
What a cool place!
Amazing place, full support here from Philippines...
Isolated cool and charming warm! I love it!! Greetings from Croatia,EU!
i could live there very happily
❤ no I could not envisage myself living on this island but I could definitely envisage myself having a holiday there and enjoying the Tranquillity and maybe even joining in farming activities if that was available being someone who came from a farming background. I definitely hope to visit their one day❤💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
I've always been fascinated by remote islands, but somehow Tristan da Cunha has never really drawn me. The Shetland Islands would be more my thing. I'd love to go there.
Shetland and Tristan de Cunha certainty have a similar way of life. Also will be similar to the Falklands. I've lived in the Falklands for 20 years and Tristan de Cunha looks very much like the Falklands: the houses, the people, the way of life. I suppose if you want to get the feeling of that way of life, then Shetlands will be just the place!
GOOOD VIDEO
I've had a minor obsession with that island for a long time. Yes, I could live there!
Materiał godny uwagi. 👌
Thanks for the support 👍
Well done infovideo.
Interesting video
Few people…equals…PARADISE…
'I've known this name all my life since childhood but never expected the island to be like this, with people living in such harsh conditions)
Great report! Truly a beautiful and unique place where life is simpler. 1:45 Small correction: Edinburgh of the Seven Seas is the name of the town, not the island. It was named after the Duke of Edinburgh who visited the place in 1867.
a perfect tiny inhabited remote island in deep south atlantic. thanks to being a part of BOT, british overseas territory, clubbed with ascuncion and saint helena. would love to stay here a few weeks. just anxious, chile or south africa isnt eyeing it with a slurp.
Yes, it's a good thing it is not part of South Africa being the closest country, it would be in shambles looking at what the rest of South Africa is facing currently
There is a house in Cape Town called Tristan da Cunha House. When islanders visit Cape Town they can stay there free of charge.
Often wondered what life is like so far away from everywhere. Peaceful place I would say.
So Interesting
Hi, at the Latitude of 37.4 South its not that far south of the equator, thats about the same as Hamilton City in the North Island of New Zealand! West of that Latitude you will only see the Southern tip of Argentina and Chile. Our Southern most inhabited Stewart Island (population of 450) sits closer to Antartica, now thats isolation! Cheers mate. Harera
Thanks for this wonderful and descriptive video. I had sent an aerogram to the Post Office there few years back. They had pinned it on P.O. wall. Unfortunately it was washed away in heavy rains.
You are most welcome and thanks for watching. It is unfortunate about the heavy rains
I could imagine myself living there, but I'm not sure for how long.
One could live among the millions in New York city or London and still feel lonelier than these people. It's all in the mind.
Well done and informative video.
Very nice video . Thank you . Kumar Sanjay from Baidrabad ARWAL Bihar INDIA
That's got to be great ❤
I was 6 years old in 1961 but remember well the volcano and evacuation of Tristan da Cunha. Looks a unique sort of place. I wonder how I might visit?
It is a very interesting destination! Thanks for watching 🙂
Sign me up, it sounds like paradise.❤
It certainly does! Thanks for watching 🙂
Tristão da Cunha
Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Should consult with SpaceX for a StarLink Satellite internet installation .. to achieve normal megabit internet speed as in modern cities .. Should be a God Send to this remote paradise ..
Why? Perhaps there is more to life than the internet.
Of course there are .. also more to life than reading a good book, swim in the ocean, or watching a good football game .. Doesn't make the internet or football game any less interesting or important ..
I heard about this island while listening to the BBC on shortwave radio in the 1980's. I've been fascinated by the island since then. I'd love to see how they do their electricity. Looks like wind and solar would be a great part of their power generation.
Definitely worth a visit sometime! Thanks for watching 🙂
Looks like the Falklands very much. The way of life certainly resembles one of the Falklands. I've lived in the Falklands for 20 years and met a few people from Tristan de Cunha, who came to the Falklands for work. I remember a 19-year old girl who came to the Falklands in 2006.
The Marquesas are very isolated too
How i wish i could get there
I read about this island in a book by Simon Winchester, one of my favorite authors, called “The Sun Never Sets, Travels to the Remaining Outposts of the British Empire” kinda of dated but so good And I have more books on Pitcairn and every book by Thor Heyerdahl Need a resident librarian? Nice video
Everything by Simon Winchester is great reading. “Atlantic” also picks up a bit on Tristan. (His more recent “Land” is brilliant and topical.)
nice summary of Tristan, seems not to have changed since i was there in 2019
Thanks for watching, do you have any plans to visit the island again in the future? 🙂
@@FactoidFactoryYT its not very easy to get to--so its not likely unless I am crossing the South Atlantic--or visting St Helena
Seems like a delightful place to live. Yes. I can envision living in a place like this...maybe with a tad faster internet service! 😅
You can live a similar experience by visiting the Corvo Island in the middle of North Atlantic In The Azores, Portugal.
The Azores are still on my list for video content to be made 👍
No mention of schooling. Curious to know more. I remember first ‘discovering’ the islands when I bought a halfpenny stamp from there for my stamp collection.
Thanks for your comment, will definitely do another video on some other aspects of the island in the future 👍🙂
It’s in my bucket lists 😂😂😂
Why don't we see the rest of the island? Very impressive. Thank you.
Thanks for watching, I will definitely make more videos in the future about Tristan 👍
Home ❤
Hello bon jour from Australia. Cheers Arnold Cook Yacht Helmi
hopefully i can go here
I find it fascinating like the Pitcairn island. I want to see it, but I don´t think, it is a good idea for me living there. You must be a person who wants to live in an area where not much is happening. I know, some people like it. I need a little bit more variety.
Actually the correct name is _Tristão da Cunha._ The ã is pronounced like "land" or "van".
It must be comforting to live in a World War III nuclear free zone.
A bit too desolate for me. It looks like an amazing place.
Thanks for watching 🙂
Does anything grow on this island
How the building material were transported?
By ship, like everything else
Prêt pour visiter
We on Puerto Rico lived through another hurricane...MARIA 😢
EDINBURGH OF THE SEAS? MY GOODNESS!IT IS! CAN THOMAS COOK ARRANGE A TRIP FOR ME PLEASE? SADA,INDIA.
More information needed about year seasons, currency, cooking, animals.
They're always exposed to the weather. And rising tides
Also the Desolation islands in the southern ocean are isolated and very cold. French name i forget. Has a tiny outpost for scientists
You are correct, they also known as the Kerguelen Islands 👍
I’d totally experience 6 months to 1 year living in this place. For mental healing purposes. 🙏
The perfect escape! 🙂👍
WOW Amazing.
Same. Must be a humbling and life changing experience
I would live hear
Genuine question.: how do they avoid inbreeding?
There is always a Portuguese reference in the most remote parts of the World.
Petrol for bus?
I wonder if they’d have access through Starlink satellites?
It seems like Starlink will eventually be available for them, however it is not as of yet 🙂
Mouse festival❤
Look scary to live there 😨
So this is the place where you will survive ANY zombie apocalypse, ANY pandemy and ANYTHING ELSE... 🤔
Pretty much 😂
Just looking for spots to survive the coming nuclear war. This looks nice.
I thought Pitcairn was the world's most remote inhabited island. Can't see how it can be one in the South Atlantic.
I had thought it might be Pitcairn too, how it is of course one of the most remote islands, but a quick search online seems to point out that Tristan is.... This is what I found on a BBC Science article "What’s the most remote inhabited place on Earth? Edinburgh of the Seven Seas is the main settlement on Tristan da Cunha, which is often considered the most remote island on the planet."
I challenge the premise that this is the remotest inhabited island on Earth. What about the Kerguelen Islands in the south Indian Ocean, 3300 km from Madagascar and equally far from Australia, with an estimated population of 45 in winter and 110 in summer? That's not on a route to anywhere. According to Wikipedia, "There are no indigenous inhabitants, but France maintains a permanent presence of 45 to 100 soldiers, scientists, engineers, and researchers. There are no airports on the islands, so all travel to and from the outside world is conducted by ship." A store? A school? Forget it!
For a volcanic island, I expect it to be more beautiful to be fair😌😌
1:48 incorrect! Edinburgh of the Seven Seas is the name of the settlement, NOT the name of the island
Yes you are correct, this was a mistake in my wording.
Does Amazon Prime also apply here ? 😅 Just joking
Good one! Thanks for watching 🙂
Why don't bring owl to fight against rat?
Would be happy there away from this mad world.
If there is one policeman , where is the nearest Court?😮
