  • Pushing the bit back to produce a cut that hides the drawer slides is pure genius!!! I just built a bunch of pull-outs for my kitchen. Wish I had watched this video before I made them. I would have definitely preferred the hidden slide look!

  • This drawer construction reminds me of the Peter Hall shop and the way they constructed Port-Orford-cedar drawers for the kitchen and pantry in the R.R. Blacker House (1907) designed by Greene & Greene in Pasadena, California. The Gamble House, too.

  • This is indeed THE best way to make drawer boxes. I’ve been doing it for years this way: all you need is glue. Using the small version of this router bit makes it possible to use even thinner boards (I use 9.5 mm. boards). The resulting boxes are just as strong as their thicker counterparts, especially if you use this method for the bottom as well: you can then make the bottom flush with the lower edges of the sides, adding some millimeters to you storage space. Thanks for the video!

  • I am so glad I found this video. I'm about to make a ton of drawers for my shop, and just hated the idea of having all the slides exposed and/or having the pocket holes exposed. The special router bit isn't cheap, but will easily pay for itself by not having to purchase wood for drawer fronts! Thank you! (And I subscribed for more tips in the future.)

    • @jimparker871, this is a nice method for drawers but more so if making solid wood sides. If you’re using plywood and don’t want to see any exposed wood, then the half/half/half method completely conceals everything, even plywood layers from the front/back pieces.
