  • For clarity the 38(t) chassis used by the Hetzer is a modified design to accommodate the weight and hull.

Throw some limbs over it, and they wouldn’t see us until we fired. Cramped inside, but a capable combat vehicle for that stage of the war.

Czechoslovakia used the flamethrower variant and also the ST-I designation,which altogether they retired . Swiss Army used the Panzerjaeger G13 variant till late 70s after which they were used as OPFOR in trainings and as target practice . There's also APC designs based on Hetzer .

And another stellar use of the tank in Girls und Panzer, creative, effective, and not to be underestimated. Another great video, and use of Girls und Panzer scenes. Thanks for this, and while late, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Johnny!

    • Oh, definitely, but they disregard a lot of it for the sake of plot armor. That Hetzer could of easily taken out the Jadgpanther's engine instead of the track. Rendering the unit disabled for Kuro. And after sneeking up behind them they could of just taken out the tiger one since everyone was focused on the siege. It's one of my main gripes with the series.

  • I like the Hetzer. I remember using it in World of Tanks as an assault gun, with a heavy howitzer as the modified primary armament, which anno one hits almost every tanks at its rank and the reload is the only punishment which is 8 seconds. But in War thunder...it gets a bit of chance but sadly for balancing the game often I notice an enemy and then got shot down by a T-34-85 or IS-1, maybe a Tiger I.

At one point the US Army attempts to recapture the base with Infantry, M113 APCs and olive green Hetzers (G13) with US stars on them!

Many officers in the chair force (Stuhlwaffe?) didn't like them, thinking that compared to a normal mount they were less accurate, and that the protection it offered encouraging soldiers to use it more (Hetzers are supposed to stay hidden)

  • The Jagdpanzer 38 does not use a Pz 38(t) chassis. Hence why there is no (t) in the name. The Jagdpanzer 38 uses a wider and longer hull. The side walls are also sloped outwards. The front negative slope is shallower. The suspension is the same system, but larger and with completely new bogeys due to the sloping hull walls. The drive sprockets, idler wheels, and tracks are of new design. The only interchangeable component between the Jagdpanzer 38 and the Pz 38(t) is the road wheels. The new hull design is the reason why the vehicle is called Jagdpanzer 38, and not Jagdpanzer 38(t). The "t" represents a vehicle using a Czech-designed chassis, as in Pz 38(t).

  • The best way to truly describe the struggles of the poor Hetzer (which is a fake name that was never used by the germans) is: "it was there to die so the StuG could be elsewhere at more important engagements". in short it was well known it was in every way but size a inferior rushed design that was mainly intended to make up in numbes and cheap cost what it lacked in NOT being a proper Stug. Aside for the loss of Stug production, the Hetzer the was also largely a product of the HUGE numbers of soviet tanks that these things spend most of their time sniping, there where so many T-34's and they where so easy to repair or replace by that point you needed every self-propelled AT gun you could get. the Hetzer had a lot off issues and it was essentially an expendable design that if they got even one real tank with it had already paid itself off. it had extremely cramped space for its 5 man crew, the gun they somehow wedged in was powerful but it took up most of the limited room inside and had poor traverse even for a casemate mounted gun. to top it all off the crews where usually well aware of the true nature of their vehicles as expendable rolling coffins that where there to die so the Stug didn't have too.

  • The Panzerkampfwagen 38(t), which the 'Hetzer' was based on, was the best tank used by Germany in the Battle of France. The Panzerkampfwagen 38(t) was a Czechoslovakian tank the LT vz. 38 Lehký tank vzor 38, Light Tank model 38). In fact the (t) stands for tschechisch, the German word for Czech. So the best tank used by Germany was in 1940 was Czech. It would be used again in Operation Barbarossa but with the German tank crew watching their 37 mm AP round bouncing of the T-34 they decided it was not up to the job. Some would, as you pointed out, be converted to the Marder III with the use of captured Soviet 76.2 mm F-22 divisional field guns or the German 7.5 cm PaK 40. The 'Hertzer' used the 7.5 cm PaK 39 L/48. There were several other modifications carried out, including the Flakpanzer 38(t) anti-aircraft gun carrier, of which about 140 were produced. The Aufklärungspanzer 38(t) (designation Sd.Kfz.140/1) was a reconnaissance vehicle which used the turret from the Sd.Kfz. 222 armoured car. And a support version armed with a 75 mm KwK 37 L/24 (and MG 42) gun mounted in the modified superstructure was also designed of which just two were built. The name 'Hetzer' (German for "chaser") seems to have been added later post war addition. Chaser does seem to be an odd name for something which was best utilised as an ambusher. In one version or another the Panzer 38(t) was used throughout the war.

      @richardstephens5570@richardstephens5570 Жыл бұрын
    • There are two wartime documents which prove the Germans themselves called the Jagdpanzer 38 the "Hetzer". Another important distinction is that while the Marder III, Grille series, Awfklarungspanzer 38(t), and Flakpanzer 38(t) used the actual Pz 38(t) chassis, the Jagdpanzer 38 does not. The hull is an entirely new design -- longer, wider, with sloped sides and a shallower front slope. The suspension bogeys are redesigned, as are the drive sprockets, idler wheels, and the tracks. The only interchangeable component between the Jagdpanzer 38 and the Pz 38(t) is the road wheels. The new hull design is the reason why the vehicle is called Jagdpanzer 38, and not Jagdpanzer 38(t). The "t" represents a vehicle using a Czech-designed chassis.

  • Another fact is that because of it's small size, the engine and the crew compartment were close together so the crew was exposed to the heat of the engine. At winter that was a great advantage for the crew who stayed warm but in the summer months, it was unbearable....

    @torbjrnsteinsland8985@torbjrnsteinsland8985 Жыл бұрын
    • StuG IV was created specifically on Hitler's order due to the success of the StuG III G combined with the bombing of the Alkett factory (as mentioned in this video) which was the largest StuG III assembly plant. Basically Hitler wanted more StuGs, so he had them place the superstructures on Pz IV chassis. So it would make sense to include both in the same video.
