Former CIA operative Robert Baer is one of the most accomplished operatives in the agency’s history. He spent much of his 21 years with the CIA in the Middle East, and one of his notable assignments was an attempt to assassinate Saddam Hussein. His memoirs were turned into the Oscar-winning film Syriana. Robert discussed the history of assassination-- the subject of his latest book, The Perfect Kill-- with PBS Frontline correspondent Lowell Bergman.

  • This was an absolutely excellent interview, Baer has the most complete understanding of the Islamic world that I've ever seen from an American commentator. His points that Iran and the Shia are more logical actors and that the really enemy is in Sunni fundamentalism is spot on.

  • What a thoroughly interesting person. It's not often one gets to say they have met someone with such an interesting life, but this guy is truly interesting.

  • To add, a lot of people have said the interviewer was not as efficient as they would have liked. To be honest, I feel most interviewers talk too much and this lack of directive questioning gave more room for Mr Baer to talk freely (or as freely as a CIA operative can!).

  • (From "Sleeping With the Devil") What stunned me the most, (I'd never heard or read this before), but the Saudi Ambassador in Washington told officials he was shocked that the 9/11 attack didn't happen to Saudi Arabia, rather than The USA.

  • fascinating guy but I feel like the interviewer could of been somewhat more proficient.. it seemed like he was just listening and trying to absorb all the information instead of continuing the conversation and actually putting forth interesting dialogue or questions.. I don't know if he was just having trouble taking it all in, or if processes just get somewhat slower with age..

    • You can only come up with questions if you are not afraid of discovering that you have been lied to and fooled about everything during your existence and by extension you have lied to yourself and your neighbor... and ADMITTING to this atrocity it becomes harder and harder with every passing minute... which is why THE SYNAGOGUE OF SATAN is so successful enlisting THE MAJORITY ... once trapped - like a junkie - there is little hope to get out of THE DARKNESS... as you are surrounded by THE MAJORITY existing in the same mental prison cell...

  • Mostly good except for the chick who does the introduction. Too much overview of RB, missed opportunity to address the implications of his reflection on his experience as an informed person on the relationship between psychology and action in the Middle East and among humans in general.

  • This is some of the highest-level virtue signaling I've ever witnessed. This man should be honored for his service and dismissed for his conclusions. He has no business being taken seriously when it comes to his projections and conclusions.

  • Beheadings are not pre-Islamic. Muhammad did it and they are clearly Islamic tradition: "The Jews were made to come down, and Allah’s Messenger imprisoned them. Then the Prophet went out into the marketplace of Medina, and he had trenches dug in it. He sent for the Jewish men and had them beheaded in those trenches. They were brought out to him in batches. They numbered 800 to 900 boys and men. The affair continued until the Messenger of Allah had finished with them all." - Al-Tabari, Vol. 8, p. 35

    • +Gatineau33 Do you know what pre-Islamic means? The Romans beheaded people as well as the Greeks and any other culture that developed sword making. Just because Islam adopted it hardly means they invented it.

    • +Gatineau33 don't you think there is more to the story than what you said? this is the Jewish side of the story which is of course half true . this was not the order of the Prophet . if you wanna be against Islam , do it well ,do research , complete your understanding ,then your word counts . now if you wanna stick to that false story ,be my guest but if you want to know what really happened i'll tell you .just ask .

      @arzhangemamifar7702@arzhangemamifar77028 жыл бұрын
    • +Gatineau33 I'm not sure what your saying. You think Muhammad and his followers were the first peoples to behead? No one was killed until the 7th century by having their head cut off? I think the Greeks and Romans were using this method a few centuries earlier. I'm sure it's at least as old as the sword and the axe which is at least 3000 years. What do you think people said before Muhammad for 3600 years: "All these people to execute and all we have is these useless swords that have been hanging about for 3600 years. Wait! remember what we did with those useless wheels..."
