  • I've been prospecting since I was 8 years old. You inspire me to keep digging. I'm over 50 now, and build my own equipment. In SC the gold and silver is very fine, but it concentrates in huge pockets. I'm on a silver pocket now, building 3 classification trommels and designing 3 cube sluices to accommodate it. The material is about 200 mesh , but there is a lot of it. Thank you for your videos. They keep me inspired.

I've found some really beautiful outcroppings out here in Colorado but how do I research it to make sure its not actively claimed and how do I claim it myself. I mean, I know about The Diggings but I'm sure there's more to it than that. So I guess my question is, how do I research this spot I'm standing on and make sure I'm not claim jumping if I decide to start digging?

  • Wow, that was a good episode. I'm dying to see what's under that clay! Oh geez, you made me cry with that Steve Austin thing. Must have hit an emotional vein. Watched that show when I was very young, like 6-10yrs old. I never cry. WTH?? Guess it reminds me of my dad. He was a prospector, and a miner.

  • The apparent void underneath that red clay stuff is a bit worrying. Like you say, make sure you are attached to something before you go down any further. As to what it is, It might be just a shallow void like those you were digging into before you found the other mine or it might be a cavern that has eroded out and be 20 feet deep. However, in view of the presence of that other mine so local, is that it is a third mine. can't wait.

  • Consider whether a post hole borer/auger would make extracting all that clay easier and faster. Can be petrol mains or battery electric or hand powered.

  • I found a digging that had never seen a metal detector. That same red dirt. I pulled so many nuggets from that spot it was unreal. That was the day I learned of the red dirt. Mixed with white yellow and orange of course.
