First Wash In 15 Years: Free ABANDONED 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon Disaster Detail!

This is a 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon that was left in the woods for over 15 years in Doylestown PA. My friend Matt contacted me to help save the abandoned 240 wagon before it gets scrapped. I travel to the residence where the Volvo has sat and we pull it out of the woods for a detail. The 240 is covered in dirt, mold, leaves, spiderwebs, and rodent droppings. An absolute bio-hazard of a wagon... Thankfully, Matt and his buddy Craig are weekend detailers so this crazy project seems a little more manageable. Harrison and Jake from Rebuild Rescue also arrive to lend a hand on getting the Volvo cleaned up. During the challenging but satisfying detail, we work on the 240's engine with Volvo enthusiast and shop owner Pete. He becomes interested in the 240 and kindly makes a donation to an equestrian program that helps one of Matt's children. Big thank you to Matt, Harrison, Jake, Pete, Craig, and Rod for their help with the Volvo project. Enjoy the fun detail and awesome work that went into getting the 240 on the racetrack soon. - L

  • What an honor for us to be part of this! After going through the car, we found it needs struts/shocks/calipers/tires/brake lines/2 fuel pumps and some major rust repair in the rocker panels....and basically a whole new interior. (Hence the low 1200 offer) It actually took a quick removal/installation of the transmission for replacement of the broken crank sensor bracket. Our plans are to convert it to a street-able track car using the engine/suspension/brake system from our ex-racecar...We're also considering an electric conversion! Either way, this car will be made amazing again by our team!

    • Worth looking around for other seats while you are at it with the interior stuff. Think Volvo 850 seats are among the last that has the similar brackets so they'll bolt up pretty well too the original ones while being slightly wider but very comfortable still. Unless you are going with like race seats in this, rollcage & then basically run a stripped out interior. Otherwise like welding up brackets too fit in seats from say a Volvo S60 or similar early 2000's cars would be a nice upgrade too it. Absolutely go for comfort over performance seats imo, unless you need seats too hold you in place for doing like drifting or track days.

  • As a swede that grew up in a 245 and later a 945, this was beautiful to see. These cars are literally just cars, nothing fancy and the drive train is one of the most bulletproof cars on the planet. I recommend that anyone looking for a older volvo scoop them up now before they either get to expensive or just aren't around anymore. 740 turbos and 16 valves are creeping up in the 6000-10 000$ range now and it's just stupid.

    • Definitely! The 240 equaled unprecedented durability, the looks. Volvo also made a statement and reputation with it. What bothers me in the video is that no emphasis is placed on a garage and the storage of vehicles. A lot of misery can and could be avoided with a garage or shed. The touch up is ok but only temporary.

    • @@terencejay8845 That was my FIRST car 🤓 A (latte) brown 244 dl 1980 with the square headlights and 4 speed tranny. I used it as my daily driver for years and a lot of gravel and snow drifting 👌😎 The first week a woman in a Ford escort crashed in to me head on and got her whole front smacked up, the fender wrinkled with the bumper and crushed headlight hanging out. Not a scratch on the Volvo 🤣😂🤣👌 It was a tank. I plowed through snow barriers for fun and once pulled out a tow truck on a field with it. In the Libanese war they actually hid behind these because of the thick steel and they called them "Tanks".

  • Great work on bringing this old 245 back from the threat of extinction. Looks like it landed in the right hands. Also, definitely come back for the 850R. Beyond removing the oxidation and restoring the shine, you may want to add it to your personal car collection. These are really fun cars to drive and the sound the turbocharged 5-cylinder engine makes with a proper exhaust is fantastic. Even better when you can convert the auto transmission to a 5-speed manual.

  • Those 240's sell for a LOT of money in the Netherlands. They're icons of a trustworthy car. A buddy of mine has one in red, polar edition. Lovely car. I own a 340 DLS with the B19A redblock engine. Whenever a redblock starts up, I recognize it immediatly. Such a familiar sound.

  • Would love to see you come back to detail that 850R! Have an 850 that I've owned for ten years and would love to see you give that one another chance. I know that single stage paint cleans up really well and there's a lot of it there to work with generally.

  • I had a customer years ago that had one of these. It was a 1975. That car was a TANK. He has a 1993 model like this and a 1998 V90. These cars actually trace their roots back to 1966 even though 1974 was the first 240. Great video!
