  • I think getting yourself in good physical shape should be step one of prepping. You can prep a hundred bug out locations and it won't matter if you end up having a heart attack at the first sign of trouble.

    • I’m with you 100%. For years there has been a theme of overweight preppers on this show, and I can’t fathom why. Especially when most people on this show invest tons of money, and time into there plans..

      @bwcafishing@bwcafishing Жыл бұрын
    • @@bwcafishing I've noticed it too. I think it's because spending money is easy (assuming you've got it to spend lol), but getting in shape is really hard. With that said, surviving in an apocalyptic state will also be really hard and IF someone genuinely believes that such a state will become the reality, you'd think that it would be better and easier to get in shape before it does... but apparently these preppers haven't considered that lol. Honestly, I think, for a lot of these "preppers" it's just an expensive roleplaying game or hobby. Perhaps the people who score the preps should grade for physical preparedness as one of the categories.

  • My Dad had a friend that was really into prepping. So much so that he let it take over his whole life. He was so convinced the world was ending that he quit his job, sold all of his family's possessions and invested every penny of their life savings into food storage and survival gear. That was in 2008. There's nothing wrong with prepping. I've got all sorts of stuff in my basement ready to go to keep my family alive if something were to happen. But don't let it take over your life to the point it cripples you financially or drives a wedge between you and your family.

    @KevinFrost@KevinFrost10 ай бұрын
    • It’s a bit ironic for someone to spend their whole life prepping for a disaster so they can supposedly protect their life….which has only been spent prepping for said disaster….seems so pointless. And in the interim, they never actually ever live their life while they could.

    • A big part of preparedness is financial preparedness. Being debt free is a MUST. Anyone buying preps via debt is making a terrible, terrible decision. Did your dad's friend buy somewhat rural land & some type of shelter in order to garden/raise livestock with that money? Or did he only buy food & gear? If it was only buying food and gear, why would he need to quit his job? That would only make sense if he quit his job in order to move really far away from said job in order to be on safer rural property and to have the time to build up that land (developing the land, gardening, building structures, tending to animals, etc. - that all takes a LOT of time unless you have mountains and mountains of money to pay people to do it all or buy a really expensive turnkey property.) How is your Dad's friend doing today?

  • In 2021, parts of South Africa were threatened by mass looting/rioting. I was in the province that was hit the hardest. After the first day, many shops were burnt to the ground and robbed with some police even joining in. Because of this, our community formed a large group and made roadblocks in and out of our small town. I was at one of the roadblocks and had a fair share of encounters. People started panick buying immediately, what made it worse was that most of the people weren't even from our town, they drove 30km to get to us. The stores couldn't get supplies from Trucks as those Trucks were either looted or forced to stay in a safe area. This meant that the shops ran out of supplies very quickly (less than a day). People from out of town became violent when they were told that all shops had run out of supplies. This only lasted a few days. Now imagine how bad it will get when it happens for weeks, months and years.

This made people from my area mad because our transportation or commute was affected. City folks were also bulk buying food and water to the point that people in my area started cussing city folks for disrupting our way of life.

  • I'm a prepper, I started 12 years ago.I started out with 40 acres, with a year around creek that constantly pushes 1,100 gallons per minute. It is fed by a private reservoir that is fed by four natural springs, the reservoir never drops more than a couple inches during the summer. Brought a travel trailer out to the property and moved here. Paid off the property in 3 1/2 years, I dug a big pond out on my property that the creek comes into and put of back into the creek, stocked it with bass, catfish and bluegill. Brought solar and wind power in because I'm off the grid, hand dug a domestic water well for drinking water, the creek I set up to irrigate pastures, gardens and crops. Bought 2 tractors, sheep, pigs, goats, horses chickens, 3 40 foot storage containers for a NBC fallout shelter, commercial size greenhouses one with a wood stove to grow through winter months. Medical equipment and machines, every tool in the world. Way to much to list as far as my preps but my setup can sustain generations to come.

Mind you these are things that normal people have been considering for decades, burying myself in a bunker never once crossed my mind. You shouldn't fear guns when it comes to your safety. Educate yourself. Also, there is a real possibility things won't get that bad. It's beginning to sound like we are going to get hit with a nuclear war. It's been said and prophesized that the U.S. is going to badly suffer - in that case death to 9 out of 10 people will come very quickly. This country isn't what it used to be and it has many enemies. We will be attacked - probably at the same time - by all the nuclear weapons holding countries (China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, ++). There's no place to hide, unless you go underground. Keep in mind that drones are increasingly being used. They will be in use in the hills and mountains. Prep the best you can. Hide your valuables and be ready to let the bad guys take what they want.

  • Gotta love how the first group blows up the perfect SHTF vehicle. That Nissan 4x4 was rugged, mechanically simple, good on gas, and capable. And these idiots blew the thing up. Like the bad guys would even park on top of your explosives anyway. These folk have a "secure location" right on a main road. They would not last long. I respect what they are trying to do. But they wouldn't last more than a day if someone gets up on that ridge, or a determined group realizes they have all of those supplies.

  • Rule 1 of being a prepper: Never tell people how you are prepping That being said the one thing everyone should consider is being in better shape. You can shoot accurately, you can have a lot of gear and tools, but if you cannot run a mile you are dead. The first prepper had a pretty solid plan, but now they need to make a new plan and find a new location.

  • I think living in a war torn country, I have already experienced a thousand times more than what they are preparing for and survived. I would have done the same preparations but unfortunately I was born in the middle of doomsday.

  • It's fun to prepare and do it as a hobby, but also don't let it consume you. The world might not fall. Also, if it does, being fit is the most important part.

  • This kind of prepping is expensive, but at least it is something. Majority of ppl would die in the first couple of days following a collapse. Training and getting in physical shape might be a good next step.
