  • Why on earth is Squash not an Olympic sport? This is athleticism, drama and skill of the highest order.

  • Obviously an amazing game and match but I gotta say, I know they were tired and I respect patience and a good line, but all the backhand wall plonking took me right back to 1990s squash... Big kudos to the ref though for getting every one of the 37 decisions right! (Unlike the players)

  • Seemed like Rodriguez tried to hit Rösner a few times with his shot selections. I don't believe I've seen any other high level player try to mix it up like Rodriguez was doing. Why would Rodriguez purposely play like that?

    @CheapHomeTech@CheapHomeTech5 жыл бұрын
    • I felt Rösner were standing in the way on purpose a few times. I'd like to think Rodriguez didn't try to hit Rösner as much as letting him know he might if it Rösner keeps it up. I don't know :)

    • Sometimes Rosner was not in a hurry to clear on the backhand rails. Rodriguez was being a thug, running into Rosner to make his point. Mostly Rodriguez did the pushing, but Rosner did some also. *Part* of the problem was the ref was not giving lets when the call was marginal. I did not disagree with the commentators & the decisions of the ref after the video reviews. But when it is a very close call a let decision rather than stroke / no let would have helped reduce the temperature. If as a player you think the ref is unlikely to give a let in a marginal case then it creates an incentive to push for greater access, causing collisions. Although exciting, I thought it ended up being a brawl, and not a great advert for the game.

  • The problem with current trend in refs giving strokes and no lets for 90%+ of decisions is in the situation when it's a genuine, simple Let the ref bottles it and puts everything to the video ref. It slows the game down massively. I get that strokes and no lets are supposed to improve the game from a spectators perspective but it's having the opposite effect at times. I'd rather see a Let ball and replay the point immediately rather than waiting through 5 different camera views of an uninteresting rally.
