Forest Photography - An Intimate Exploration with a Nikon D850
In this photography vlog, I continue to build a collection of intimate scenes encapsulating the characteristics and small details of the forest. With a Nikon D850, a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG HSM Macro Lens, and (surprisingly) a Tamron 100-400mm f4.5-6.3 lens on hand, I search for a variety of subjects to photograph while enjoying the peacefulness of the outdoors.

I liked the out of focus part of “Echo.” Just because we can focus stack doesn’t mean we always should. Your photo evokes classic macro photography for me. Really fun video to watch. The way you talk about your shots seems like you’re just talking to us like we’re there. Thanks.

When i am in a wood i like to take photos of moss covered tree roots. I like the way that they appear to be snaking towards you in the photo.

I’ve been interested in Photography almost since I can remember. I’m also a KZhead addict, lol. There are subjects I binge on for months, even years. Sadly, though, I’ve only found two KZhead photography channels I like, and yours is one of them.

Your work shows just how difficult it is to make art from the muddle of nature. By perseverance and natural ability you make lovely images. Many think you can just walk into the countryside and the images present themselves. They dont. Its hard and lengthy work. ❤️

You are blessed to have been born in a technoligically advanced Age. Photography and life could have been so much better for us older viewers. We did however benefit from a more generally relaxed lifestyle, no World Wars and the Prog Rock era. Keep noticing nature, Courtney.

I enjoyed your video! As you were preparing to take the trees, there was an interesting channel through the woods that you can see at 1:39 or so. I personally might have attempted to use that channel with trees to either side to create a composition, getting a tunnel of light effect. The near perfect verticality of the trees in this wood would still have been apparent.

You are my inspiration to get into my local forest with macro equipment. I love the images, and the one of the moss sporophyte (Echo) is really lovely. Critcially sharp in just he right spots.
Another great video Courtney. I think it's a good idea to use the telephoto lens in the woods as it gives you a different perspective. The Echo image i really liked as it spore looked like it was a reflection of the first one. Look forward to the next one.
I would recommend the tiny, lightweight Laowa 65mm macro lens - fits in a small pocket, takes great detail in handheld manual unless its blowing a gale.😮 tip: also use red peaking
Lovely macro work. As for using long lenses for landscape photography I totally agree . I usually use 35mm to 135 mm. Tne classic focal lengths

I really liked the "Echo" shot, simple and beautiful. I'll also say I'm glad to see another photographer who doesn't feel the need to have the very latest equipment and understands that using used gear is a good environmental choice. I have the same Tamron 100-400 lens, and love the results I get with it, by the way. All the Best! :)
Great video. I love the "Echo" photo. Yes, by all means use your telephoto in the forest. I have many times and have been very happy with the resulting photos. It can, however, be tricky to find the right composition.

Your forest macro work is so inspiring. I live in Suffolk and we simply don't have that kind of mossy floor in any area I have visited, but I shall have to open my eyes and find some subjects for my new macro lens.

Been using the D850 since 2018. It's still my go-to for nature photography.
The OOF echo you did with the sporophytes is quite lovely. Sporophytes are tough to shoot.

Your videos are like short stories, immersing viewers in the depths of nature's splendor. As an additional suggestion, have you considered using a small misting device to create water droplets on the intricate details you film? I believe the effect would be quite captivating

I love the echo shot. I prefer macro with some blur. For me, it adds to the image. Great images!!
you got me hooked on photographing moss spores, I brought out my Helios 40mm and adapted it to my canon camera.
Those two "dreamy" spores... the other is like dreaming of the other. Quite romantic I would say 🙂
9:57 in, spores, so now I know what I photographed in my backyard the other day. I think I’ll see if I can edit a couple. Thank you!
