I love this! I really really love the colors. Do you always try to limit the number of colors you use in a painting and how do you decide which colors? I have the hardest time deciding what colors to use. I’ve said colors way too many times in this comment!! 😉 Love your work…thanks for sharing your process with all of us! 😊
COLORS!! Hey Amy! Thanks so much for the chuckle. 😂 Yes! I use a limited number of colors most of the time. Easier to manage, and I enjoy mixing color. - When I don't have any color ideas for my palette, I use "Primary" colors A LOT!: Cad. Yellow Med. Hue, Phthalo Blue (sometimes green shade), Quinacridone Magenta, - plus Titanium white, Mars Black. - FOR THIS PAINTING, Raw Sienna is close to the color in the rooster - so convenient. Since it is a yellow-y brown color, I went across the color wheel to purple (yellow and purple are compliments). Using complimentary colors in a painting is fun and pretty much a guaranteed 'win'. I like quinacridone and needed to be able to mix a red with Cad Yellow for the comb and waddle. - IF I do a 2 color painting, then I pick a 'warm' and a 'cool' color (plus black and white). I did a birch tree painting in Blues and Yellows kzhead.info/sun/mbiNpZt5ioiEZa8/bejne.htmlsi=zX16XOSt2wAznMfO Made me nervous, but it worked ❤ OK, That probably made no sense. I pick based on my reference photo/convenience, or I go to 'my' primaries for my palette. Sometimes I just play with a color because I like it. Let me know if I confused you! Art Hugs!
Very nice painting, but please stop using styrofoam plates as a palette. Its so much unnecessary pollutant and non-degradable trash. Use a reusable glass or plastic palette or palette paper if you want disposable.
