The Red Racer is not venomous, although you would not want to be bitten by it either. They are shy snakes not often seen. Although it may appear I'm close I was about 10 feet away. The snake was only wanting to pass on its way. As the name implies, Red Racers are very fast moving snakes, remarkably so, in that more than a brisk walk would be needed if one decided to chase you. The Red Racer however only chases rodents, other reptiles, birds and the like, an important part of controlling the ecosystem.
Like most of you guys, I'm not a huge snake fan, but I do admire their beauty, purpose and place in the outdoor world, let them pass.
