Guantanamo Ex-Detainees Talk Through Their Past Torture (HBO)

2017 ж. 24 Қаң.
549 216 Рет қаралды

It's been 15 years since Guantanamo Bay detention centre was established by the Bush administration. Despite calls for it to close by Barack Obama the prison remains open - and Donald Trump now says he wants to keep it that way.
To mark the anniversary Vice News Tonight spoke to former British detainees Moazzem Begg, Safiq Rasool and Ruhal Ahmed about how their lives have been impacted post-Guantanamo.
Over dinner, the three also recall both the difficult times and the moments of humanity at the United States Military prison.

    • Its so sad for all these people to judge a faith based on blind groups who believe what they are being told is the only way to save islam. When in quaran yes it does say kill the infidels. But before that passage it says you Must get along with all your neighbors regardless of their own personal faith as only god can jusge. You must live peacefully and not impose Islam on non believers. Then it also says that" you must protect the teachings of islam. " remember that last quote. Then it says that if the lives of your family, friends, the very belief of islam and ones own life, is in danger to protect it no matter what. And if the infidels come to force you their beliefs and jeapordizing the islamic faith then you must kill the non believers. Its sad all my fellow god loving people who hate on someone else for believing in god in another way and the only major differences between them and say me is how they show their devotions to god and how i show mine is truly sad. Read the bible.YOURSELF make your own interpretations. Then read the quaran and do the same thing. You will realize both books are practically the same. And would be the exact same if it wasnt for king james. which is one of the reasons god sent Muhammad, to directly send the word of god again without a human who cant even remember seeing god before they were put in a body changing gods sons word. And to try once more to remind us that god is the only one to idolized. Which is why i dont understand the Christian faith.... jesus said the same thing only idolize god its one of the commandments. Yet the name of the faith itself contradicts that, qs well as idolizing jesus.... jesus did NOT want that to happen. He wanted his followere to spread his word instead they made a religion named after jesus, and some christians i hear believe the part , the father , the son, and the holy spirit. Are all the same which is why jesus is sometimes referred to as lord yet makes no senee since jesus's teachjngs was to believe in his father. That his father sent him. He didnt EVER say i had to send myself down here to save yall. No he said father sent me down with a message. Anyways can any christans or someone who understands christianity email me about it?. Also anyone with questions regarding to either the islamic or Christian beliefs email me at harishuskic94@gmail.com. i am agnostic and grew up in muslim house hold in a christian country so i dont truly support either i support the belief in that humans will choose to more good then evil more often then not and that i must restore our belief in each otber . I pray to god that i dont fail him and i know he believes in me or he wouldnt have chosen me as well ad believing in many others like me. And has given us spiritual warriors of god with abilities that many dont believe possible as once i didnt either. But trust me when i say that the soul is real, and that meditation may help allow you to unlock one of my favorite special abilities god gave me which is to astro project and go where ever i want and the abilitu to protect those i know , love, and cherish even while i sleep. Twice i have saved friends lives potentially one was about to be robbed. The other was about to commit suicide. Anyways any questions just email me at harishuskic94@gmail.com with subject as "faith"

  • Mr Begg, Mr. Rasool and Mr. Ahmed. A very fascinating recount of a horrendous time of your life and I am extremely happy you were each finally released. You and those like you being wrongfully held - Mohamedou Ould Slahi, etc.. are owed a huge apology for the way you were treated and the years of life lost to you due to the rage of our government. As a U.S. citizen, the entire post 9/11 era and the horrendous treatment of fellow human beings by our government is a shameful, infuriating era in our history. The dirt and blood on our hands will be judged very harshly and with a very hot light, by history's eyes. I am truly sorry you experienced what you did and I am embarrassed by the actions of our nation's government in their disregard for your humanity. I, like you, fear that Donald Trump, in his absolute ignorance, extreme narcissism, and utter disdain for those not pasty white and rich will result in further hardships for many, many more Muslims, Hindus, Mexicans, Africans, etc.... I can't understand why those who installed and carried out torture don't/can't foresee the inevitable blowback - the U.S. Government being rendered voiceless in the event that our military personnel and/or citizens are tortured in kind will, through their own behavior, have NO recourse, for they've established an precedence that the Geneva Conventions are powerless. The Bush Administration established a terrifying precedent, ignoring decency and the Geneva Conventions in "the Brumsfeld/Cheney/Yoo way". I sincerely hope you and your family heal and live in peace for the remainder of your lives. You deserve that and much, much more. Stay well and stay free - Bob Conner

My generation needs to step up as soon as possible in regards to holding elected office & actually go on that apology tour people always said Obama was on. We need to actually examine ourselves & realize our wrongs, no matter how bad it ever is & make sure to atone by never ever committing such evil things again. America is a unique nation, we have been a force of great good & of terrible evil. The stories these men & all innocent men & women tell are encounters with the horror we've caused. I love my nation dearly as any patriot should, but I also find shame in the terror we have shown across continents.

That´s not to say the US swooped in and saved the day, they helped for sure but Canada did as well, and the soviets fought harder against the nazis than anyone.

      @MrRazmut@MrRazmut5 жыл бұрын
    • @ShitGotReal Okay? I didn´t even say that. Now that you bring it up though, I would say they´re both shit, but the US certainly isn´t as bad as the soviets in my mind. Bad, but not as bad. Prison/labor camps which were basically a death sentence were really common in the soviet union, and they(especially Stalin) loved to forcibly move their own people around the country with no explanation, to "prevent uprising". At least the US doesn´t have 300k people pack up and leave their homes randomly to go live and work in a random shithole. The soviets didn´t even allow their people the right to free travel, so yes I would say they´re worse than the US. Both shit, but saying the US is as bad as the soviets seems kind of silly to me. Gitmo doesn´t have hundreds of thousands of people dying with no trial, gulags did.

There are 350-400m Arabs me being one of them you can try to kill us or Genocide us or colonize us i mean most modern Arab countries all were colonized by Europeans except for Saudi. We will fight you back in the end the Quran does not permit us to be offensive or to kill civilians or non-combatants especially Women and children since 1400 years ago till now that's why if you Invade we will gladly kill your Soldiers, Any True Muslim would never kill a Civilian or a non-combatant nor can he even kill your livestock unless they want to cook it and eat it of course but if 1 Western soldier comes then again he will fight that soldier and that Government to the Death not the People for when someone's blows up civilians his place is in Jahannam (Hell) with Satan and God would question him on why he did that in the day of Judgement which we believe in btw.
