  • i think something really cool about these movies is that they were made right in the era where people still liked using practical effects but also had convincing cgi to be used when needed. its such a perfect combo that creates a really immersive and realistic look. when a movie relies too much on cgi it does often stop feeling grounded, and when a movies relies on practical effects its really limiting. this combo works so well, i wish more movies didnt use so much cgi when they could still use something practical.

    • Alan Rickman was told his entire story line from the very beginning by Rowling, so he knew why Severus Snape acted the way he did, and that put more emotion into everything he did.

      @jeffblack2458@jeffblack24582 жыл бұрын
    • @@jeffblack2458 i would disagree. Michael Gambon had the necessary fierceness that Dumbledore has. Although he did go overboard at times, like in GoF, he had the sense of humour and eccentricity. Richard Harris was on the other end of thr spectrum. He was calm when he needed to be, but at times he seemed far too feeble. Dumbledore is someone who is calm and quiet, yet powerful and intimidating. Each actor had one but not the other, thus a combination of both would have been better

    • My mom took me when the first movie came out. I lost my appetite that night because of the trolls snot in the bathroom but I grew up every year so excited to see each movie. No joke. Each year especially some years before summer camp I would thing.."wow I'm getting older the 4th movie is already coming out!!" From then my dad would take me to every movie when it came out. Each movie was not only beloved but a milestone marker of my childhood. I was reminded of how time was passing each time a movie came out. IDK how else to explain it. It was just such a significant part of my childhood. Other than starwars which my dad showed me as a child, Harry Potter were our movies together! I turned 6 in 2001 and was nearly 16 when the last movie came out. I cried pretty hard.

  • The filmmakers originally wanted to use Canterbury Cathedral as a filming location for some of the Hogwarts scenes, but the Dean of Canterbury refused to allow it, saying that it was unfitting for a Christian church to be used to promote pagan imagery. Gloucester Cathedral agreed to take its place; the Dean of Gloucester, the Very Reverend Nicholas Bury, admitted to being a fan of the books. Nonetheless, there was a huge media outcry in Gloucester when it was decided to use the local Cathedral as a filming location. Protesters wrote letters by the sack load to local newspapers, claiming it was blasphemy, and promising to block the film crew's access. In the end, only one protester turned up.

    • I wanted to dress up in HS but the costume was too expensive. I want to dress up now as an adult at least once. I might buy the costume just to have it hanging proudly in my closet. I had a huge crush on Harry as a 12 yr old watching the movies. I wanted the that world to be real so badly. It was an escape from life. I knew I had to stop obsessing over it though because Daniel was a lot older in real life and I wish we would have been the same age. I wanted to meet him irl lol Anyway, it’s so cool you actually grew up with them while the movies were being made. I am still a fan years later and always will be. I am 25 now.

  • Thanks for the inside scoops around so many iconic scenes. Harry, Hermione and Rupert were all surprisingly marvelous, throughout. The extraordinary performances of so many well known actors and actresses enriched the quality endlessly...especially Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter, MAGGIE SMITH and on and on, plus assorted cameo roles of others. What an enormous achievement for everyone.

    • @@polariswcue Literally everyone's? Last I checked, I would be included in everyone, and they are my least favorite films. If I wanted to watch two hours of camping, I would watch the Outdoor Channel. My favorite films in the series are: The (Philosopher's)Sorcerer's Stone and The Goblet of Fire. The first one because it stuck to the books, still had charm, perfectly showed the awe of Harry seeing the magical world for the first time, and the wonder of that magical world. Sir Richard Harris was Albus Dumbledore personified, may he RIP. The Goblet of Fire had action and pushed the series along. There were no silly additions to it like The Burrows burning (which never happened in the book). Although it did have the infamous "he said calmly" moment. Gleason did a fantastic job as Moody. Why they chose to make Dumbledore an angry hippie, I don't know. This is the last of the films you can actually see things in, before they chose to not only figuratively, but literally darken the tone of the films. I disliked COS and Lockhart. I wasn't fond of POA because it felt too angsty. Plus, the time turners plot device drove me insane because I am an over thinker. They added things in that weren't there, but took things out that were. They would do this habitually with each movie as they progressed. They insisted that the last book couldn't be condensed, but they could have cut out good portions of camping. I understand that they want to show that they had been out there for a long time and were desperate, but time lapse is a thing. Show a scene that has something important, then show another scene two months later with another important scene. The Deathly Hallows was visually dark, and it seemed to drag on forever. I had been looking forward to seeing it, but was actually bored watching it in the theater. I was so disappointed. My son and I got out of the theater after watching part 1, and were like, "that's it?". I honestly can't imagine anyone favoring The Deathly Hallows over the first movies - or any of the other movies in the series. In fact, I know I'm not the only person who puts other movies above it as their favorite.

    • Daniel said that as a joke. He was a bad dancer, and he knew it. I am guessing that maybe English isn't your native language? He was being sarcastic. I don't mean that as an insult, by the way. Just that the meaning of words can get lost in translation if it isn't your first language, because you have to translate it, but then you miss out on the tone of voice when they speak those words. It happens a lot. I think speaking more than one language is impressive, but communication breakdown happens when the meanings behind the words aren't understood. Sarcasm doesn't translate well because the words are literal, but the tone of voice implies that the words spoken aren't true. People with Autism can also have a hard time detecting sarcasm because they have issues with picking up social cues/body language.
