I disagree personally, this is just release order with the first and second endings swapped, and excluding the manga. The one major change to the watch order he made is irrelevant IMO, and if anything, the ending of EOE is more appreciated after watching the first ending. A proper Watch order for Eva: Watch all the animated content in release order, read the manga if you want to, or don't. Problem is, this doesn't exactly make an interesting KZhead short.
@@fink7968the problem is… your wrong. I do agree it’s better to watch the ending movie before the ending as the show as it is a proper continuation while the ending of the show is like a nice wrap up to be left thinking about.
@@sifibruh7055 you know what, I was wrong. I think watching EOE first isn't just an irrelevant change, but the wrong watch order. You can't appreciate the failure of the instrumentality project without Episode 25 and 26. They are two fully distinct endings. It is completely subjective which order you watch them in, and they are not "connected" other than being two ways to resolve the same plot. However, EOE as an alternative is much more satisfying when you have seen episode 26. This was the order I watched it first, and this is my favorite show, so bare minimum for me and the majority of people who will watch Eva, this is a perfectly acceptable if not ideal watch order. TL;dr-I stand by what I said even more so because of this comment, and genuinely encourage anyone reading this to not even consider watching EOE first.

The only change he has made here is watching the 2nd ending first and the first ending second. The end of EOE is going to be much more satisfying for most people, so personally id say it should be second (IE release order)

I know I'm a little late but do NOT watch the final two episodes after End of Eva, watch them before. They may or may not take place during End of Eva but should be watched before, not after. Eva is best consumed in the order it came out in. Also the manga isn't confusing. It's an alternate take on the story (made after the anime) that's not too hard to follow. Honestly Eva as a whole is easy to follow, people just overthink it. Also to the people saying the Rebuilds don't matter, they are wrong. The Rebuilds do matter, a lot. Watch them after End of Eva.
Hard disagree I watched it in the natural order and came out of it realizing how much better it is to swap them around. The movie is the proper continuation while the show ending is more like a nice complimentary secret ending that is thought provoking. Watching it in the natural order takes you out of things before the real end which is not ideal.
The rebuild films don't matter. They are set in a completely different continuity so you can watch one or the other without any issue

Also you have to watch the director's cut version for EoE, otherwise some plot points will seem like asspulls. I believe Netflix and most streaming sites have the director's cut versions by default tho
@holczy0 End of Evangelion doesn't have a director's cut. I think you're thinking of episodes 21-24 which have director's cuts that include extra footage added in Death and Rebirth. But yeah, the director's cut version of the episodes are better and pretty much all copies (legal or not) that you'll see online are the director's cut unless you go out of your way.

I liked the ending from the anime, oddly enough. I like to think that both endings are from two different perspectives. One that you can see within everyone's mind and thoughts, and the other one is what's happening on the outside if that makes sense?

Thank you for this, the way they laid out all the movies had me confused as fuck. Before this YT short, I did extensive research on the wiki as to what to watch (after I *completed* the 90s anime), so I FIGURED I'd watch End of Evangelion next, THEN the Rebuild movies.

Found out that there was a showing of The End of evangelion at the movies about 2 days before, So I preordered my ticket and binged everything up-to (1-26, Recap). I can tell you that I was sitting in the theatre another kind of fucked through that movie. first read all the manga, then watch the whole series in Japanese without the subtitles, then watch EoE, then watch two video essays about Rei, then read the entire Old Testament and pay special attention to the book of Job, then watch all the reboot films
Just watch the series start to finish. EOE is clearly taking place during the last two episodes, it doesnt matter exactly when it started. The last two episodes are inside Shinji's head, the movie is about what's actually happening. Also the manga isnt canon, it isnt even trying to be. Its a complete retelling of the story and it was finished 18 years after the original series. Also the rebuild movies kinda suck and dont really matter at all. Movie 3 and 4 were written by Anno decades later, and they've been dumbed way down because of how controversial snd confusing the original series was. The characters come of as simple and bastardized, which kinda defeats the entire reason people liked Evangelion.

It's so lame that people are forcing a watch order meme on this franchise. Just start with the show. If you enjoy that you're just gonna naturally want to consume everything else that exists about Evangelion. It's almost impossible to watch it "wrong" after you've seen the show. I'd even argue you could watch rebuild first and then the show and be fine.
