The thing is, mostly, everyone in high school is mature. Some just act like kids because they want to. They're aging, growing up, becoming an adult. They don't want to. They don't want to feel the responsibilities of life crushing them down moment by moment. I'm a high school student myself, and countless people have told me this. It's not about being mature at this point. It's about having as much fun as you can before you are forced to become just another boring, sterotypical adult. I wish some were mature, but I understand why they aren't, and I feel like other people need to understand it too.
As a seventh grader, this was so relatable. Everyone tells you “be yourself” but is it really that easy?

No. Being autistic I learned that if you are yourself around people that do fit in, they’ll mock and ridicule you for it as much as they can so they can fit in MORE and seem cool to their friends, while you become less and less able to fit in.

By now, she’s probably 18-19 years old. I really hope people treated her better after this, and I hope she gained confidence in herself to not care about what others think of her. I don’t know this girl, but I just know that she became successful, and will continue doing amazing things in life.
It's not always an option to not care about what others think about you because many don't stop at thoughts and cause you very real harms, not just words. Especially when they realise you don't care about them, they do everything to catch your attention and hurt you. They are probably socio- or psychopaths I guess, certainly not humans, but there are so many of them it's baffling.

To write such a poem, reveals a great gift. To memorize a poem that long, reveals a sharp mind. To express it with such feeling reveals a passionate heart. To make others feel it too, reveals a true poet!
Agree, but the memorizing bit... It's kindof like performing a song that you've composed. You know it well enough that you can improvise off the base, and the end product is more or less the same, because the expression is your own. That is to say, its not like regurgitating a chapter from a text book. Not to say it's not impressive, because she's awesome. The process is just much more intimate than raw memorization, as its a part of the whole.

I stopped thinking I was fat. I stopped looking at my eyebags wishing they were gone. I don't get bullied that often anymore. I have one or two friends, but for me that's enough.I stand up for others. I believe that you, the person reading this, can do it too. Yes, I still sometimes feel a little insecure, but then I remeber how far I've come. The things I went through. I feel proud of myself. And I want everyone here to know, that I believe in you. Keep going.

No they dont fail, in my class are people whose notes are better then the other 10 th grades but they always like look at each other. i come back to this video every few months because i love it so much. when i found this video ab 4 years ago, i related to it. but now looking back at this video again, i relate to this even more. its so sad how society is.
This person truly deserves more. She has fought so many battles, and literally anyone who doesn’t hold some kind of respect for her, or thinks badly of her are not the right people for her, because she’s seen what’s wrong, and she is standing against it. And for that I applaud her
