It's totally different from the Tiny Desk. You will know their vocal styles, how wide their music genre is and how different they sing when they are comfortable, they are so fun. These guys produce and make the melody of their songs btw, and most importantly they write their own lyrics so pls turn on the captions if you ever watch it. IT WILL NOT DISSAPPOINT Thank u in advance if you will watch it. BORAHAE

  • They went with the ginger color for her hair because it suited her skin tone the best, and what I really love is that it's a darker ginger underwater because it's soaking wet, like real hair. When she's on land, her hair is a much brighter, lighter ginger that's more obviously a redhead because it's dry!

    @seanmcgcostumes@seanmcgcostumes9 ай бұрын
    • That's because they only wanted "realistic" colors and this one was the best for Halle. But if they tried to go for more fantastical colors, there would've been so many to choose from that would've been perfect for her and still look accurate to the animated version. But the director's need for everything to look "realistic" does not allow it.

      @abbeyBominable123@abbeyBominable1239 ай бұрын
    • I love her hair color. That bright ❤red is not cute. I always hated that color for this princess. 😂

      @ellaes6602@ellaes66029 ай бұрын
    • @@abbeyBominable123 Not exactly. It wasn't solely that they were aiming for realism per se, because they tried many different colors and styles on her: darker more auburn red, the fire truck animated-accurate red, a copper-ish red/ginger color, a wig with all loose hair (as in non-dreadlocked) with her real hair hidden underneath etc. and they tried multiple options in both irl screen tests & in cgi screen tests with her mermaid body, but the team working on her hair as well as the director decided having a mix of loose hair with her natural dreadlocks as well as a warm natural ginger/red color looked best on her as well as within the world & tone of the movie. Which makes sense because natural Black gingers irl do look similar to how Halle looked, so I understand why they decided that of all the hues/colors they tested & tried that that color specifically was the most fitting on her complexion. It's not too harsh or gaudy, or even distracting, and it wouldn't wash her out or make her not seem soft & innocent enough. Like when I think of that bright tomato red irl I think of Rihanna in her edgy era in the early 2010's, which doesn't scream young, innocent princesses, but you may disagree idk. Plus, they were looking out for the health of Halle's hair in terms of having to dye it for the land scenes, which can be very damaging especially with certain colors...even more especially when she had all-day shoots in the salty water of the ocean, which can really obliterate dyed hair of any color. But think Ariana's hair after Victorious and how it had gotten absolutely destroyed from the bright red they were dying it & how long it took her to recover from that, like literal years, where she was stuck wearing extensions & fake ponytails and rarely wearing her real hair out because it was so shattered, short & broken. I think it's fair to want a different color for Halle's Ariel or to wish it was closer to the original, but, personally, it really doesn't bother me even if I didn't know the full backstory of what they went through to choose the color they chose. As long as she wasn't out here looking crazy lol because that happens often in Hollywood because a lot of stylists don't know how to do Black hair and it either ends up damaged or looking bad OR the actress has to do it herself. I've heard that story so many times of actresses (on Disney channel, the CW, Nickelodeon, Netflix etc.) on set doing their own hair or if they're a kid their mom doing their hair because no one else knew what they were doing. But in this case they specifically got a Black stylist who knew how to handle, work with, and take care of Halle's natural hair.

      @eternityriley1833@eternityriley18339 ай бұрын
    • @@eternityriley1833 yeah... they still chose the realistic look. A bright red hair would look out of place in the movie's aesthetic, that's why the movie's aesthetic should've been more fantastical. Chloe, Halle's sister, has worn red hair and that looked good with her skin. It would've looked so good on Halle as well. Or they could've went with something like Starfire in season 2 of Titans, where dark hair transitions into a bright color and it looked great.

      @abbeyBominable123@abbeyBominable1239 ай бұрын
    • @@abbeyBominable123 they did try the Starfire things. I haven't seen the show, but based off of your description, they tested the ombre look going from dark to light as well. There are images of it floating around. The red Chloe had could work practically with her skintone, but I don't think it equally conveys the youthfulness & innocence the same. Especially when I think about it being on Chloe after she had the blonde era as well as with her music the vibe was very sexy, womanly, mysterious & grown. Like literally when I think of most anyone irl who's had a bright red hair moment they don't give off youthful, free, innocent, naive etc. but they also weren't trying to which was the point I think. They wanted edgy, sexy, loud, spicy, mature etc. The only exception I can think of is Ariana as 'Cat', but the color worked on her because her character though youthful was very weird, strange & kinda cooky. So the bright unnatural color paired well with her characterisation in the show imo.

  • The joy you felt seeing and hearing Halle was the exact same as mine! Truly the only thing to complain about Halle's Ariel is that the hair should've been redder. It's crazy that people didn't want her as Ariel when she was IMO the best part of the live action movie. She embodied Ariel completely and totally elevated the soundtrack.

  • Honestly, every single criticism of Hallee goes out the window when you watch this version of Little Mermaid. The way she was still able to be so captivating without a voice and carry so much emotion, truly shows why they chose her. I sat in the theatre and watched too many women cry at her version of Part of Your World.Also, I agree we def needed her hair to be more red, even a shade darker wouldve worked perfectly. I WILL say it lands more when shes on land

    @LovedByYou@LovedByYou9 ай бұрын
  • So basically the make up artists decided on a ginger color for her hair because it suited her skin tone much better than a deep saturated red, which I agree with because people have photoshopped a darker red on her online and this looks so much better imo. Maybe it’s the way it looks edited but the saturated red low key looks fake or like a wig, the ginger just suits her far better.

Her hair underwater is CGI (because mermaid movement), but when she gets legs, they have her in literally the most gorgeous strawberry blonde/copper color locks Ive ever seen. She looks like a sunset, and its just SO pretty. Also, Sebastian will grow on you. They actually did a much MUCH better job animating the animals in this one than they did with lion king. They're much more expressive. Also, Eric's new song is good! Wish they had used a little less of that Glee-flavored autotune, but he does a good job, and I think its an improvement over "Her Voice" from the Broadway show. Just.... Excited for you to see it in general. It got sidelined from all the negative internet drama, and its totally unfair. Its one of, if not THE best of the Disney remakes.

  • Of course it looks different from the animated version. This is a live action movie aimed at adults, not kids. So the crab is gonna look like a crab. The fish is gonna look like a fish. But they still talk. And Ariel's hair is still red, it's just more natural instead of the vibrant tone from the animation. Furthermore, Scuttle is portrayed as a female northern gannet diving bird (not a male seagull) because they are able to breathe underwater for a short period of time. Ursula's look and behaviour in the animated film was inspired by an American drag queen called Divine. To prepare for her role as Ursula, Melissa McCarthy actually consulted with the drag queen community. One fun little detail is when Ursula is creating the potion to become Vanessa and the main ingredient is a bottle shaped like a human stomach. This is a play on the phrase "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach". Many people miss the fact that Ursula and Triton are siblings in this version. Triton had banished Ursula from his kingdom and disowned her for practicing black magic, which is what motivates her actions. It was cut from the animation but was included in the 2007 Broadway musical. Ariel and her sisters have the same mum but they represent the seven seas which is why each of them are a different race. Regarding the opening quote: Throughout the film Ariel cannot produce tears, even when she's sad and/or crying, UNTIL she becomes a human. Scuttle's "Has Ariel killed the prince yet?" is most likely referencing the original fairy tale, in which the nameless mermaid is destined to turn into sea foam and die after the prince marries another woman. The mermaid's sisters tell her that the only way she can escape this fate is if she kills the prince with an enchanted dagger. However, the mermaid can't go through with it and instead accepts her death. Ariel 'signed' the contract by giving Ursula a scale from her mermaid tail, which actually covers up a plot hole from the animation where she literally signs it with a quill pen. Since she could clearly read and write English, why didn't she just explain herself by writing it down? There's a big chance Eric wouldn't have believed her but it's worth a try right?I Ariel is given 3 days to kiss Eric and make him fall in love with her so she can remain human permanently. Ursula cheats 3 times to keep Ariel from being able to do just that. First, she secretly puts a memory spell on Ariel so she won't remember she needs Eric's kiss to stay human, and every time she is reminded she forgets immediately or falls asleep (that wasn't in the animation). Second, she sends her pet eels to prevent Ariel and Eric from kissing at the end of Kiss the Girl. Finally, she transforms herself into a human with Ariel's voice to trick Eric into marrying her. They changed the dingelhopper scene to include Jodi Benson, the original voice of Ariel in the animation. She is the lady who gives Ariel the dinglehopper in the market. It's a symbolism of her passing the torch to Halle. Regarding the colours in the sea, someone said it's supposed to look all dark and gloomy from Ariel's perspective because that's how she sees it, which honestly makes sense. I loved the way Eric points out the star constellations to Ariel (which as a sailor he knows well) and starts guessing her name. It was such a beautiful improvement from the animated version where Sebastian just whispered her name to Eric. It added so much depth and charm to the scene. I like that Eric's character arch is more than just being the prince Ariel falls in love with. He has a backstory and a family. He, like Ariel, has a parent who believes they know what is best for their child. Eric being adopted is supposed to highlight the fact that he feels like he doesn't belong. Much like Ariel, he feels there is so much more to explore and discover, only the other way around. They share a bond over their love for collecting treasures. I really like how they fleshed out their romance more and actually showed they had a connection, instead of just 'love at first sight' and physical attraction. It also helped a lot that Halle and Jonah had an insane amount of chemistry. They also made it a lot clearer in this version that Ariel didn't want to become a human just for Eric. She was already interested and curious of life on land BEFORE she met him. Her motivations were rooted in her not fitting in and wanting to explore. She would have gone up one way or another, she just happened to have met Eric along the way. I think that’s why they added the bit about her not remembering to kiss Eric. They didn’t want the whole premise of her giving up her voice to be about chasing a guy, rather, about her chasing her dreams. Triton destroying her belongings was always the catalyst for her going to Ursula, not Eric in itself. They still kept the romance, it didn't take anything away from it. Some people have a problem with Ariel killing Ursula instead of Eric as if it takes anything away from his character. He literally saved Ariel's life when Ursula was about to kill her by throwing the harpoon. He also saved Max. Ariel may have given him a little nudge but he was almost there anyways. And even so, it still speaks to Eric's character. Just like he didn't save Ariel in exhange for her saving him. He saved her because he loved her, and more importantly because he's a decent person. Ursula trying to kill Eric made so much more sense because she didn't care about Eric, it was about hurting Ariel. I wasn't sure about Javier Bardem's portrayal of King Triton at first, but the more I think about it the more I like it. In the animation he clearly had some anger issues, and while that is understandable, he doesn't have to be all screaming and intimidating to have an impact. He looks and sounds more disappointed and scared here rather than angry, which is not only a lot more respectable but also a lot more believable. He feels more like a worried father than just some big scary dude with an anger management problem. As for the acting as a whole, Halle and Melissa clearly stood out, but Jonah, Daveed, Jacob, Awkwafina and even Javier did a great job as well. Also, Jessica Alexander as Vanessa absolutely stole the 5 minutes she was on screen. As for the music, I think Halle absolutely nailed Part Of Your World. She has such an innocent and naive quality to her voice yet powerful at the same time. The power in that high note in the reprise is incredible. I love Melissa's version of Poor Unfortunate Souls. There is so much sass and character in her voice. The fact that Melissa had little to no singing experience and didn't even know she could sing is INSANE. Under The Sea translates surprisingly well to live action. Daveed Diggs adds his own flavour to it and Halle's little adlibs add so much to the song. Kiss The Girl is just magical, musically and visually. I love Wild Uncharted Waters and how it has her siren song behind it. Jonah has an amazing voice and you can hear he has a theatre backround. Also, this is random but I love how you can hear his strong English accent in every single word. For The First Time is great and allows Halle to be more playful yet vulnerable. I was appalled when I first heard Scuttlebutt, but it has grown on me and now I actually kinda like it. And while some people didn't like the ending scene with Triton, Ariel's sisters and all the other merpeople, I loved it. Yeah we didn't really see Ariel interacting with any of them besides her family, but neither did we in the animation and I still felt emotional seeing them at the end. It was kind of showing how their two worlds were forever united with their marriage. There are only really two things I have a problem with in the whole movie: The lack of Flounder and lack of Ariel's wardrobe. I didn't have any problem with the way Flounder looked, I just felt like he was absolutely useless in the movie. He barely had any lines and wasn't even on screen that much. I needed more of him. And, obviously, they could've dressed Halle in a potato bag and she still would've looked gorgeous. But Ariel's wardrobe on land felt lackluster. She wore the same blue dress the entire time! Even the dress at the end during the wedding was the same one, only in pink. What about the blue dress with the bow? Or the sparkling purple dress? The wedding dress? Why not bring them to life and just modernise them a bit? I don't feel that their reunion at the end was underwhelming like some people do. If anything, I like how simple it was and that they didn't speak. They communicated enough with their faces. At the end of the day, this is a movie about a mermaid turning into a human and fish that can talk. Not everything has to make sense. The thing is, there are some people who will never be satisfied because it will never be as good as the animated version. You can still enjoy and appreciate this movie for what it is.

  • Tbh, I didn’t cry in the theaters during this song, but I was mesmerised by her voice, but now rewatching it with Hannah is so different, like I was so focused I realised at 6:09 after her beautiful note that I was starting to cry, oh my lord 😭

  • Halle is stunning and she sings like a goddess! I'm 33 and I think I cried through most of the movie in theater. Ariel is also my favorite princess and this gave me such nostalgia but also her singing took it to a higher level. I'm getting teary eyed just from watching this now. It just makes me so happy. And I might have a crush on Halle's Ariel, she is perfect and definitely my Ariel.

  • I like how they used more unknown sea creatures in UTS instead of just fish and dolphins. Also I wasn’t expecting the realistic animals, but I didn’t mind them when watching. You should react to Vanessa’s song, poor unfortunate souls, and Wild uncharted waters. The latter is a Lin Miranda original. It’s an amazing song but I’m interested in your opinion of it because another vocal coach said it was too auto tuned sounding. I’m curious to see the comparison.

  • It's been so long since I've sat down to watch a vocal coach reacts (I've mostly been watching Hannah's non-vocal videos such as her book reviews). I've been watching Hannah for YEARS but haven't been able to sing in over ten months due to a worsening vocal condition I have. It's bittersweet looking back at these vocal communities I used to be a part of knowing I might never sing again, but regardless of my current situation you and your lovely community deserve all the love and support there is so I'm watching yet again. So glad to be back!

  • food for thought! when she sings mooOOOOooOOOOoorrree and she goes from chest to head voice...I think that method of singing emphasizes her youth which is really important to the story and her wanting literally more in life (coming of age trope!) It kind of sounds like her voice is cracking which reminds the audience she's still a young teen who is full of dreams but not experience.

  • I genuinely loved Halle’s part of your world, she really made the song her own. My only gripe was at the end she extended the line “part of that” and didn’t leave time for the pause to transition to “world.” So it felt rushed. But other than that it was so beautiful. I love the sad reprise she has of it near the end as well. 6:48

  • I grew up on the original animated movie, and I I love this version even more, it is just so much more emotionally impactful, and Halle's singing and acting is perfection. And she just looks like a mermaid princess. I actually think the shade of red they chose for her hair was perfect too, if they made it more like the cartoon, I feel like it would've looked clownish. I really don't have any issues with this movie at all except that I thought some of the new songs like Eric's song was a bit boring. I actually thought Flounder was adorable, all the voice actors were great. I can't even imagine all the work Halle had to put into this as her first acting role and having to film in the air in a harness, swimming, and then also not using her voice for a good portion of the movie. She really deserves an award for this performance.
