This weekend I upgraded the utility trailer to a 5x8 wood floor Tractor Supply Carry-On. In this video I'll discuss my cost, initial thoughts and show the first time using.

Going to buy one tomorrow, thanks for the video. Side note you might benefit from a 6inch drop hitch to level out the ride of that trailer. Ultimately leading to a safer/smoother ride.
Nice video. I just bought the 5x8 carry on with the 13" black wheels. It is the mesh trailer though so I am going to add my own deck boards. Looks like you didn't get the next gen? Neither did I, although I stupidly didn't realize that on mine you can't unbolt the gate but I could change that down the road if I want. Build quality is on par for a $1200 trailer. But it tows like a dream and it's perfect for my 4 cylinder 4x4 Tacomas haul capacity of 3200#. My uncle has the tube top version and his gate latches failed so I may add a safety chain for the gate so it can't slam down at speed when I hit a crater of a New England pothole lol.

Trimming after you mow?
I had a 5x8 Carry on, it was an awesome little trailer, I personally felt it was too small for my f150. Just got a 6x12 Karavan and it feels more comfortably paired with my f150. Still have both trailers and i can’t say enough good things about that little 5x8
Mines been doing good work so far.
You need a drop reciever, and a tilting tongue jack. Shouldnt be sticking down like that catch hazard, and need to level trailer .

I bought the Karavan 5.5x9 and those sides don’t when you have them all latched together. Very quit and smooth pull down the road. Half the time I forget it’s there

I won’t go back to Carryon or TSC brand trailers way to much rattle in tail gates. Karavan well worth the money. Plus the powder coat finish holds up compared to the others being painted that peel and rust
Does the tongue have any play on the trailer? I think I need to tighten up the two bolts on the one just purchased.
The tongue on mine is welded. No play.
I’m probably calling it the wrong name but it’s what the coupler is welded to. The two bolts sit under the front of the trailer and it connects the bar to the frame. Thanks for the reply and review.
@@pop70458 Oh yeah, you’re right. The hitch. Mine is bolted to the frame. I don’t have any play in that connection that I can tell by moving it by hand. I’d try tightening that bolt as you mentioned.
Do you know make & model of the old rusty trailer?
Someone else asked that question back when I had it. It was some local fabrication company. Can’t remember exactly.

Did the TSC trailers have better build quality than the ones from Lowes? We checked out the ones Lowes had last night and the build quality was pretty ugly. Dripping paint everywhere, ugly welds and a few crookedly welded beams.
I meant to mention in my video, but both Tractor Supply and Lowes had carry-on brand trailers. May be different in your area. But because of that, same build quality.

I bought the 5X8 from tractor supply and it's the worse trailer I ever bought. It was raining the day I bought it and they hooked it up to my car in a hurry because of the rain. When I got home and backed it in the garage, omg the paint looks like children painted it and the welding was done by a BLIND MAN. Tractor supply should be ashamed of themselves. It has zero miles on it because I bought it just incase i needed to move something around the house. It just stays in the garage out of sight. I don't want anybody to see it. Everytime my friends come over they tease me about it. They'll say " hey man were you drunk when you bought that wreck" it's embarrassing.
lol - Well...were you drunk when you bought it, haha. But yeah, I've seen people complain about the welds and paint. But I use mine every week and it's not let me down yet. Sorry you got a rough one.
@@weekendhomeprojects Yea I just bought the TS 5x8 and it literally looks like they dipped the whole trailer in a pool of dripping goo. However I don't care because it's a utility trailer that costs $1200 brand new and is going to get beat up hauling stuff. I plan to repaint with bed liner once it starts rusting anyways. But yea I bought mine in the rain too so I didn't notice until I got home. And the welds are about what I'd expect for the cost. My brand new $3800 A.R.E. contractors truck cap has crappier welds than the trailer..
Park it in plain sight out in the front yard and hope that someone steals it.

Haven’t heard that before. Enlighten me.
@@weekendhomeprojects Its so if the trailer happens to come loose and off the hitch, the chains being crossed acts as a cradle and catches the trailer tongue and keeps it from hitting and dragging on the road. When the chains arent crossed most chains are long enough that the tongue will hit the ground as you're traveling at speed causing more damage to the trailer and possibly an accident. Always cross em.
