San Diego’s gnarliest MTB trails, Teds reviewed and survived with my specialized turbo Levo 2022 3rd gen.
Trail reviewed is called Circus Circus, it’s a black diamond trail like most out there. Not for beginner mountain bikers. A lot of rock rolls, drops, and jumps.
The real Teds, not just videos of expert riders hitting gnarly jumps.
Average mountain biker trail review.

San Diego has trails that will please all riders from the most beginner to those seeking more adventure. Experiences can be had from the coast, to the inland foothills to the wooded forests of Mount Laguna to the Anza Borrego Desert. Most riding areas in San Diego are a combination of singletrack and fireroads to provide connectivity. Head to Penasqutios Canyon and you'll find a variety of trails that are good for beginner and intermediate riders. Head to Black Mountain if you like the more rocky, technical trails with healthy dose of elevation, and go to Lake Hodges (San Dieguito River Park) if you're into a mix of the aforementioned riding areas. A little over an hour from downtown San Diego will get you to the Cleveland National Forest, featuring Noble Canyon, one of SoCal's best downhill trails. Cuyamaca State Park also offers some awesome singletrack and vistas as well.
Your commentary is classic! Thank you!!
Thanks, it quickly turned out to be chaotic jabbering on my part 🎉 and more of a fun vid instead of a review.
Good video.. send it!
Oh yeah, I was sending it! 😂
That big rock on circus is rollable but it’s definitely a surprise the first run down lol I’ve still yet to clean the section right after that though, it’s real tricky.
I hear you. Tricky and intimidating in spots. How long have you been riding Teds?
Just “ride YOUR ride” those trails look really nice. I would just get to know them better and you should be able to clean some of those rough sections.
For sure, I ride to my comfort level. 😊 thanks for the advice.
Suggest a bit more practice before you self proclaim your skill level. ;) That trail looks like it needs to be ridden at a certain speed and with the ability to hit small drops and jumps, compared to other riding areas its a strong intermediate trail. Down in SD something like Noble Canyon would be comparable, but that has more techy features and less jumpy stuff. Regions tend to have the bulk of their trails at a certain level of difficulty (with some outliers), as soon as you go to another region the skill level might go up or down by a notch or two which can get people into trouble. BTW noticed your seat is up, which is really not good for that type of riding, just slam it down on descents. Keep practicing and maybe get some knee and elbow pads if your going to keep testing yourself.
Yes. I need to build up my leg muscles to keep the seat down the whole way down the trail. My self proclaimed skill level dropped after that performance, ha ha. So true on the different trail systems like Black Mountain versus Ted’s they’re only a couple miles apart and hugely different. Do you have any suggestions of trails up in San Clemente or Irvine area? I’ve never really been up there before.
