  • I think your daughter should pay for your brakes. You drive to her house and take care of her kids. It would cost her 200 a week for a daycare. I would most certainly do that for my mom if she was driving to care for my kids. You just need to ask her. I think she will help you.

    • I think it is fine. I just learned where I stand on my bills and if I am being too extravagant in specific areas; food, meds, electric and insurance, etc. Glenda never said for you to pay her bills, just that it is difficult / impossible to cope with American retirement responsibilities. I agree whole heartedly with Glenda. I am sure you do too if you take the time to pontificate.

  • I hear ya. Soc. Sec never has been enough and now to add to the problem is an even worse economy and we have to sell our souls just to put gas in the car so we can go wait in line at the grocery store & wonder how much of it we will have to put back, when it is totalled up🥵😔 SO many seniors skip buying and taking many meds, because it is just impossible to do it! And to boot, the doctors want us to have things done and take questionably necessary meds that are so out of range to even purchase at all. It seems ya can't get any kind of assistance if there is not a child in the home, so seniors are left with impossible decisions to make!! It backs us up into a very depressing, frustrating, difficult to go on, corner. I really don't think a whole lot of people that are not in the predicament really understand how horribly impossible it truly is.🙄

  • you have to be careful when you start to hear that noise because you can do major damage that will make it cost closer to $1500. You really DO need to park it and not drive it. Also, this just shows how so very important it is that you start putting a way a few bucks monthly for an emergency fund. You are going to have to forgo the eating out so much and the blizzards lol, unfortunately, and make sure to save at least $50/mo for an emergency fund. At least that way, you have a little something to fall back on when you need an oil change or a car repair or a new phone etc.

I have physical mobility problems, but I manage. My concern right now is the very high cost of food and utilities however, I was very lucky to get a very good price on my cell phone, cable tv, and wifi, which is billed all together and is the same company and it works excellent. Good luck to you Glenda, but take things positively, with pride and hold your head up high, no tragedy, it is only a car, you have two children, you can save and in a couple of months you may have the money to fixe it, remember you have a beautiful roof over your head and most important , you have good health. • Vehicle repairs are high. I had a number of repairs done last year on two vehicles. After a nightmare of numerous repairs sticking $6500 into one winter vehicle. The mechanic place told me frame was cracked. I had to junk it. The vehicle I'm driving now is 26 years old. I bought used 20 years ago for $5000 with 86000 miles. It now has 120,000 something miles. I put brakes, tires, and other parts last year to get it ready for winter. Which cost around $2000.00. It's in good shape with no rust. My car insurance runs $40/month. My electric last month was $160 and this month $162.00. I'm not using air conditioning. Fans only. No dryer hanging clothes up. Don't use oven, So why is my electric so high??? I'm still paying on last winter's heat bill. I'm on budget plan. I'll hopefully get caught up before heating season starts again this fall. Or come January will be electric clean up month. Whatever balance I still owe will have to be paid. My taxes for my paid for house are around $200/month. I mow my own lawn. I'm very blessed that my neighbor comes and plows me of winter's snow. and doesn't charge me. But he is 81 years old. So that might not be very much longer. I couldn't afford your apartment. Even though I think you deserve it. And I'm glad you have it. I don't have answers. Everything has gone up so. It's very depressing. Thank you for the video. Blessings to you.

Could you move in with relatives, (daughter)? Can you find a less expensive place to live? Can you get groceries from Church or neighborhood pantries that cater to needy people? There are usually a good number of resources that help others in their area. A COMMUNITY RESOURCE AGENCY can be of great help in alerting you to groups that provide you with groceries, bill assistance and other help. Have you asked at your church or place of worship? • I have been watching your channel for a long time now. I don't comment very often but I feel compelled to after watching this Video. The fact is that everyone is having it hard right now and no one has $400 or $500 for fork over to you for your brakes to be fixed. Frist of all, you're living in a state that you really can't afford to live in at all. Secondly, there are a ton of job openings right now so you should get out there and get a job. Yes, I know you do KZhead but KZhead could be gone at any time so that is not a reliable job and the pay is not enough to live on. My mother worked full time until the age of 70. She lives almost solely on social security except for a small 401K she had at work that she takes $200 monthly from. She lives within her means and has about $260 left for food and essentials after paying her rent, bills, and medications. She never eats fast food, no Dairy Queen or McDonalds, and cooks all of her meals at home herself at age 81. She gets upset when I buy her a few groceries now and again or if I buy her some take out as a treat. She wants to support herself. I know you have a few health issues, but there is always something you can do to earn money. You can be a crossing guard at the school, collect lunch tickets, or supervise the kids at recess or lunch. I feel for you but you have to get out and get a job. I'm sure there are a ton of desk jobs you could do and the socialization will be great for you. Lastly, you are not a victim. Don't fall into the trap of feeling sorry for yourself. Nothing could be worse than feeling sorry for yourself and feeling helpless. Pray to God to guide you to the right job and he will.

It would be more than fair for Jill to pay her mom at least $450 a month for watching her kids. • When I was working part time, plus Social Security @ 62, I was able to qualify for a NAPA auto parts repair credit card, through my trusted mechanic. NAPA offers 6 months free interest, for repairs over $200. So I have my car checked about 2x/ year, winter & summer. By the time, I replace hoses, tires, brakes, etc on a rotating basis, it qualifies... But this will be my last car, so I am trying to stretch its use out as long as possible, since I drive for myself & another to dr appts & groceries, etc.

I have seen what you did with your apartments in the past. Your readers need to remember that you do have a job. Your You Tube channel requires time, planning making and additional tech work. Kept up well etc. And the residents are paying about 200 a month and it includes all utilities. There is typically a two year waiting list but that time will go by anyway, so might as well get on the list now and then in two years when they call you will not have to struggle anymore. Just an idea. :)

  • I just found this video, a little late to be helpfull but I will add this. Those two brake shops were ripping you off. The scraping noise is caused by a metal tang attached to one of the brake pads on each front wheel or all four wheels if your car has disc brakes on the rear also. The tang will scrape against the brake disc to alert you that it is time to replace the brake pads. Brake pads are not expensive and it is a relatively easy job to change them, just loosen the wheel nuts, jack up that wheel and pull it off. There should be two pins (3/8" +or- thick) that slide out and you can replace the pads. Specific procedure depends on what car it is but almost anybody that can tinker with their car could change them, it would probably take less than 30 minutes per wheel doing it in the driveway. I did my Sister's car two years ago when I was only 73 years old and I am not a mechanic, it is an easy job. I hope you got it fixed, look around for a 'handy man' who does mechanical repairs and who can provide some assurance that he knows what he (or she, remember easy job) is doing.

  • Glenda, so sorry to hear about the breaks on your car. Hopefully you will be able to get them fixed soon. I enjoy your content on your channel and you seem like a very nice person but I do not believe that anyone should be telling their financial situation to anyone. There is a lot of people that are in the situation that you are in or worst but they are not giving out their monthly expenses to the world. We all have bills and sometimes we have to cut back somewhere. Park your car and use Uber until you save enough money to get your car fixed. Right now this world is in a bad place with the economy the way it is.

Those early videos helped me through a time when I thought I was sunk. But to see someone else preparing inexpensive meals, and stretching their dollar, and still keeping a grateful attitude made me realize how much I do have. I have a roof over my head, food on the table, and things are a little better now. However. the struggle is all around us. Keep up the encouraging videos my friend. There's no shame in sharing info to help others. ps-I gave up my cable too. These cable companies charge way way too much money. It's ridiculous. I'm done with that. xoxox
