For some reason I wasn't to chatty in this video 🤷♂Must be after replacing your 569th GM truck transmission you just don't have a lot to say. I think the next one I may talk more 😁 My two most used guns: *-Astro Pneumatic Tool 1828 ONYX 3/8" Nano Impact Wrench v2 - 500ft/lb:* amzn.to/3fEScEY *-Astro Pneumatic Tool 1822 ONYX 1/2" Nano Impact Wrench v2 - 500ft/lb:* amzn.to/3fLijtK
I have both and use them daily as a trans tech.
Was thinking it was an asmr tranny job or you got your teeth wrenched on... onward and upward either way... till the next one...
It was like watching those guys that go camping alone in the snow and don't say anything the whole video
I agree Eric ,any automatic transmission that does not last at a minimum of 50k miles needs to be redesigned.
NTW - enjoyed watching a pro at work. And, admittedly, could hear your comments and witty remarks in my mind.
I was wondering how well that fluid film worked, looks really good under there
I’m, like you, also impressed with how well preserved the undercarriage looked. This video should be sponsored by fluid film.
That's better than undercoatings that can trap moisture.. I hate rust.. this is the new way!
It works great. I use it here in pa
Zero doubt my car would be at Wilburt's by now if I hadn't started Fluid Film'ing it some years back
That must be a southern truck; that thing is damned near immaculate. And it's a 2007? Gawd-dayum.
The 4L60/65E kept a lot of mechanics busy. 4 neutrals and a reverse. GM's finest gem.
Still better then a 6L80 and 6L90.
Thier not to bad of a transmission. People just overheat them and never change the fluid. Then they have the “I know a guy who can do it cheaper” rebuild it. And losing reverse is usually user error not letting the transmission engage reverse before accelerating.
@@samsquires2877 Those turds make the 700/4L60 look bullet proof.
mine has 245,000 in my 2003 chevy avalanche it's better then any new tansmission these new trucks come in in any brands out there
@Perseus1275 GM renamed the 700R4 in 1989 or 1990 to the 4L60. Still a 700R4 just with a different name. Both have a TV cable and a mechanical governor. Not a 100% on that but pretty sure.
When I was 30 years old I would grab the transfer case like that and set it on the floor. Now I'm 53 and I'm like "Can I get a hand with this transfer case ?" Really sucks getting old....
I got 10 yrs on you, let me tell ya...Your going to wish you were 53 in 10 yrs lol
@@scrappy7571 Much respect to you sir. I don't think my body will last another ten years...👍
Darn tootin!!!
One thing is certain Eric, this video is not boring. Thanks for your efforts to bring us along and show us how a professional does it.
This video is great but it's no where near as good as a brake change video.
Enjoyed every minute.Thanks
The good old Fluid Film seems to have done a great job keeping this Chevy from crossing over to "the crusty side". Lanolin for the win! 👍😁
Unfortunately no one around my area uses it
I love the stuff I live in michigan and we have the salt too and I've sprayed them for the last 5 or 6 years and it's worth every penny. I just bought the equipment and do it myself it is a little messy but not bad, takes about an hour and your good for another year.
No fluid film in northeast Ohio i get Silverado Krowned every year. Seems to be working.
Buy 8 cans and do it yourself or spend for the pail and applicator
That underside looks phenomenal, that fluid film works great
feel like eric is the final boss in the mechanic tier list. can watch this man all day i dont even know how to change my own oil
Indexing the driveshaft, very nice.
I haven't installed a GM transmission in years, but I still have my collection of long extensions for that top bellhousing bolts at ready. Thanks for the memory.
Looks like the Fluid Film kept that truck alive long enough to wear out a transmission, despite the PRNY's best efforts. Looks great under there.
That truck is in immaculate condition. Where is the rust!!!??? The good ol' 4L60E transmission. Nice job. This is a rare classic SMA video for sure. Keep it up Eric!😎
hey eric, thanks for making these, believe it or not I use your videos as a getaway from my daily life and the added knowledge i learn along the way helps alot as well
Same. I don't even own a car at the moment and like to watch his videos. Maybe I'll pick something that'll help me next time I do own a vehicle.
Same here
How is that underbody so perfect? WOW.
Living proof that fluidfilm works! Thanks for the video!
When your trans fluid looks like a Kia oil change you know she's done.
Boring...never! Every video from Mr. O only increases my respect for his ability. Something fascinating about watching a skilled professional display his abilities. Another great video and can hardly wait for part 2 and possibly part 3.
It's so gratifying to see the torch being put on those exhaust nuts. Also the effects are clearly shown by how the one that didn't get heat put to it wouldn't come loose. After heat.. zipped right out.
Any time I thought my job sucked I just have to watch SMAR . WOW you are a hard worker.
The comment of the fluid film made me take a more critical look at the underbelly of this guy, and boy howdy it really is a night and day difference compared to some of the previous cars that've rolled through your shop that were falling apart with rust.
Never boring always keeping up with the moments of joyous disassembly and then replacement! It's good for the heart and soul to see so much peaceful rhythm in the shop.
That's gotta be one of the cleanest GMT800's I've seen in awhile!
Great video! Always a treat to watch you repair vehicles chatty or not... 🙂
That's the cleanest undercarriage ever on SMA!
Kudos to the owner of the truck for taking such good care of it. Taking this thing apart must be like a vacation for ya Eric...it's Rainman levels of easy 🤣
Just got off work and a new SMA video 🤗 happy very happy!!! Thanks Big E!
Hey Eric thanks For making my day a little bit brighter I love watching you do stuff.
This channel is awesome. I really enjoy the content, Eric. You have increased my mechanical knowledge base drastically.
Had the “pleasure” of changing out a 4L80 in friends plow truck on the ground. Northern Mn rust bucket, such a treat.
Thanks for allowing us to follow you along with this one. I can just imagine the time it takes to edit/assemble all of this - on top of the day job!
Once again I got tired just watching you work... thanks Eric!!
Hey it's been a while since we had a big two-parter engine/tranny replacement!!!! Love it!! Thanks, Eric!! Always appreciate your videos!
Much respect how quick, clean and efficient you do your work. Thank you for these videos, helps me a lot and saves me money by working on my own truck. Can't wait for more.
Great job. Take as many videos as you want. We will watch them all......Be safe
Love that nuts and bolts stuff. I don't do transmissions at my shop so it's great to see the process anyway. Thanks for sharing and patiently waiting for Part 2 and or Part 3.
No boring or stupid video here or any of your videos Eric top notch. Can't wait for Part 2 and maybe 3.
Good to see you wearing safety gargles on your highballs! I got a blob of sand in one of my eyes many years ago working under a truck, and the trip to the ER made me rethink my approach. I was very lucky to have no permanent damage. Rock on, Eric O!
Cleanest truck I’ve seen on the channel. Fluid film did its job! Wish they was my truck.
Probably one of my favorite KZhead videos. Not only my favorite channel
this truck is really clean for the year. the transfer case looks almost new.
Eric it looks so easy when you do that cuz you have all the right tools I did many transmissions on the ground and it was a pain but it still got done keep up the good work we like watching you here take care
I love those two sounds the best. The torch lighting off and the air hammer.
It's a pleasure to watch a master technician at work. He makes a difficult job look relatively easy.
You make it look so easy. Thanks for the video!
Some days stuff just gotta get done. thanks for filming.
Man, you make look easy. I bet this truck belongs to a customer that lives somewhere south, way south, maybe a subscriber, lol. Clean, no rust anywhere.
Thank you for another great video. Sometimes the work speaks for itself. For instance, I was watching an older video of yours yesterday regarding replacing a front wheel bearing on a Ford Escapay, and decided it wasn't a job that I could do here at home and to leave it to the professionals.
Truly a highly intelligent and respectable mechanic. Those are rare nowadays. Always a good video being put out regardless what you’re doing. Really appreciate the knowledge transfer! Thanks Mr. O!
You'd almost think Eric has done this once before... Nice work!
Good stuff...thanks Mr. O....We don't give a toot if you are chatty or not...we enjoy watching the pro do it the right way! Looking forward to the next segment
A true testament to fluid film that does not look like a NY truck let alone of of its “vintage”
Just did a 4l60E about 6 months ago... glad you are having as much fun as I did. LOL!!!
miss the old days of the turbo 400 just a couple trans lines a vac line and a few bolts an hour out and in
Your round South Main Auto logo at the end lines up perfectly in front wheel 👌
After moving to Minnesota and owning a 96 Rusty Ranger that was here its whole life plus seeing all the rusty crusty stuff you work on daily, it was definitely different how "clean" this one looks!! Rust free cars is one of the few things I liked about living down south.
Love these videos....picturing how this job will be lying on my back on my garage floor.
I just did this same job last week , really impressive to see you lift the transfer case out by hand
I always love the "If I could do it, you could do it" part. I don't think I'm going to roll around in my driveway for this job! :)
Sometimes being chatty makes for a great video but can also cost a little extra time. I think I can say for the most of us that just watching you do your work is great too.We get what your doing and understand how these things work. T?hanks for bringing us along.
I, like a lot of people, watch your videos Eric to unwind, take my mind off what I'm doing and just enjoy watching a master at work. I will say this, you patience level absolutely blows my mind. With all the noise and distractions (door dinger, telephone, cellphone), I would go completely bonkers. This video just demonstrates your methods for doing stuff without explaining it. After watching literally every video you've put out (that I'm aware of), I am constantly blown away that you know where all the nuts and bolts and wires and screws all go to go back together... Either that or you've got some wicked video editing skills :) Thanks for bringing us along!
It bring back the days when change I change transmission back in late seventies and early eighties
Oh man so jealous watching you with that delicate touch heating those cat bolts so they rattle right off. Need to learn that skill up here in Canada where rust is a member of the family.
I see Milw..... everywhere on KZhead. It's refreshing to see you use air tools. I use batteries in the driveway and air in my garage.
I'm glad you made the comment about Fluid Film, I'm about to have my 22 Equinox undercoated with fluid film. My last vehicle a 2005 Cavalier died because of an engine cradle rust through. Thank-you again.
Love the awkward segues to the Facebook, Insty, and Patreon… CLASSIC! 😂
Nice to see you working on a vehicle I’m intimately familiar with. Now I need a lift! 😄
I know that smell, like Lynyrd Skynyrd says " ohh that smell" Thanks for the video. God bless the O family.
This is awesome, I usually do one of those in a day, but I have the transmission waiting, I find that the transmission in Chevys are much easier to change than almost anything else, the only hard bolt is the Bell bolt on top, thank you for sharing, always a pleasure to watch, and the amount of knowledge I have learned about wiring from you has been immersible. Thank you so much, I wish you were my shop teacher in highschool.
Eric, love to watch you work. I wish I could do it the way you do it. Thanks for Sharing!
👍 Gotta admit, watching this, I don't miss wrenching for a living anymore. Though always wrenching on my own terms the last 20 years for family and friends. So far, so good on my 02 Z71.... I keep up and the maintenance, but don't put a whole lotta faith on the trans. Nice to see the formula. Keep up the good work!
People that do this professionally, such as yourself, are amazing. Great video to follow along. No bs, just here's how you get it done. Thank you.
Look forward to part 2 Lots of progress in this video Eric O @South Main Auto Repair LLC
It’s all about the tools and the right equipment. You can easily forget how heavy this stuff is. The mastery of all the tools needed in hand and the right size is a work of art. Well done making it look easy. Sign of a professional!
This video made my day because I have to complete this exact task.
Great video Eric. I think this is the first underside of a vehicle that has been Fluid Filmed for several years that I have ever seen on your channel or anyone else's for that matter. It really does prolong the life of a vehicle like you said it would. I am so lucky I have never had to contend with a vehicle rusting out, There are places in Australia where they do, though that is mostly on the islands off the main land, or if you do beach driving. Even then, it is nothing like the rust I see on your channel with vehicles that are relatively young, and when compared with Australian cars, your vehicles are practically not long off the show room floor and they are rusted out!
Wow. That is amazing. Love two parts. Gives me reason to do nothing. Great job.
It's amazing how heavy that transfer case will get in 20 more years. I used to be able to man handle them just like that too! Now l need help. Oh to be young again!
The only way about 80 lb. What are you 70? Lol just kidding
@@SouthMainAuto flatbacked three of them with my old man… he’d pick it, plop it on my chest and kick push the creeper I was laying on under the truck.. laughing his @$$ off. He’d run around to the other side with bolts and call me a 🐱if I didn’t have it in place and he had to help lift and finagle it in. It’s hard to lift when you’re laughing! God I miss him. Sorry, watchin this video brought back some good memories.
Just had my 50k fluid and filter change on my 2012 . Hope to never need a replacement. Nice job as usual.
It never ceases to amaze me that mfg's put drains in every part that has fluid except transmissions and differentials !!
Proof of concept, film works very clean best advertising out there
It takes a sturdy dude to pull that transfer case by hand. Kudos.
@@jack-in6hz NP205, NP203 do them all day by hand.... One hand on the t-case other hand steading the trans jack.....
@@SouthMainAuto 💪
The master at work. Roll on Part 2
Favorite tool in the Rust Belt is the smoke wrench. It can't be struck if it's liquid.
you make it look so easy. when I had to replace mine i didn't have a shop to do it in and had to resort to using jack stands and no jack to lift the transmission in or out of the truck. what an absolute pain it was.
Brings back memories of pulling the NV3500 out of my 2005 4x4 every 15k miles or so 😂 No issues whatsoever out of the transfer case I rebuilt using Mr. O's video as my only instructions though 😎
Free tip Tuesday, if you "suck" out the trans fluid before you remove the pan-less fluid leaks, and the pan will be lighter...it's my step 1 as the batt cables get removed and whatever else up top...
I have never heard of a GM 4 L60 going bad.
Good job so far! I've done lots of them! Thanks Mr. "O"!!
I love these videos. I did miss your gabby style, but still enjoyed watching.
This is why i was never a mechanic! hard work
2007 in the great republic of ny and looks good underneath. Fluid film doin a great job
My 2000 Chev Express w 4L60E gave out back in 2020 @ 171k miles. After having it rebuilt she is running strong. These videos are awesome 👍
Eric you did something I haven't seen in a long time and that's clock and Mark to drive shaft great I used to do that to avoid future vibration problems have a good day
Thanks. I had a 2005 Jimmy with the 4.3 and 4 wheel drive. The transmission seal started leaking badly. Good running motor, and everything but the one leak. I had a seldom used 2014 Explorer sitting in the drive so I guessed how much money it would cost and got rid of it. You are showing me I was right on the amount of work and therefore cost.
Great video, this video are the videos i really enjoy, motor and transmission rebuilds..gettn down and dirty..thanks for posting it
He may not have the paper work or whatever you need, but he is a MASTER mechanic in every sense of the word. A pleasure to watch !
TY Eric, no need to say sorry for not being too chatty mate we see your concentrating hard not to get hurt or create more work for yourself. After so many of those GM transmissions it would be like Deja vu for you. Looking forward to Part 2 mate. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘👍👍
That front end looks a little Mad Max ish. And you are the boss.
unsure that i can do this job (based on the transitive property of "if Mr O can do it, I can too"), but i definitely appreciate the play-by-play! My 2001 2WD Silverado is similar-ish so it helps to learn either way.
Love the heavier content! I learn something every video.
