  • The most important thing to remember is that packing for a three-week trip should be almost identical to packing for a one-week trip. The only difference may be the quantity of consumables like conditioner or deodorant. Go for solid options where you can. Solid cologne, soap, shampoo, and so on take up far less space and can last for months

    @Gilamath.@Gilamath.3 жыл бұрын

      @Lovsnow@Lovsnow Жыл бұрын
    • Totally agree that the only difference for me between a one vs. three-week (or six week or...) trip is the toiletries! Haven't tried solid shampoo yet, but I love my ColorScience SPF 50 powdered sunscreen as an alternative to bulkier lotion sunscreen. Laundry strips are also lighter and more compact than liquid detergent.

      @bellaluce7088@bellaluce7088 Жыл бұрын
    • @@bellaluce7088 I respect all travelers decisions. I've done a 40L backpack to Central America before. For me, going from a 40-60L gives me more enjoyment on the trip. at this point in my life, my "stuff" is all functional and all adds to the fun. It was cool to be lightweight, that's for sure. I could survive off a 40L but to me, what's the fun in that? I like to have more of what I need.

      @Lovsnow@Lovsnow Жыл бұрын
    • Completely disagree, no need to pack extra toiletries, they are easy to find in most parts of the word and if you're ever going somewhere where they aren't they don't take much space anyway. Clothing on the other hand pretty much scales with trip length unless you are lucky enough to have access to laundry facilities.

  • To people who want to pack light for winter time trips- invest in a good jacket so you don’t need such thick under layers. Also, thermal shirts. They are absolutely wonderful. Denim is heavy, so unless you plan wearing your jeans multiple days, pack other pants made of other materials. Also, at night, hang the clothes you wore in a well ventilated area. This way, they won’t smell so bad and you can prolong their use before the next wash.

    • Dani Black I’m planning a trip in November to japan. Thanks for the winter tips. What kinda other material winter pants would u suggest? Jw 🤔

      @KiSaty@KiSaty5 жыл бұрын
    • Kiana Saty I went to Japan in 2017 at the end of December. In my opinion, the temperature itself isn’t terrible, but the windchill is pretty strong (also depends on where in Japan you go- I was in Tokyo). I actually prefer wearing leggings/thermal pants with a pair of jeggings or stretchy pants made to look like like nice pants over top. These items pack really small and with the leggings underneath, the top layer pants don’t smell as bad as quickly (body oils don’t really reach it).

      @Tayuya129@Tayuya1295 жыл бұрын
    • Dani Black thank you! This is great advice and I will deft keep these tips in mind 🙌👏😊

    • Nice advices. For winter (or multiple-climate zones trips) I'd go anytime with TECH fabrics. Thermal t-shirts or longsleeves, socks, underwear and tights takes up very little space but are comfortable and super-warm.

  • People in these comments are making “ packing light” into some kind of competition. Packing is personal, stop telling people what they need or don’t need to pack for their OWN personal use. What’s it to you anyway? I consider myself a light packer, but I personally would just bring a small carry on for 3 weeks trip because am not taking time to do laundry 3 or 4 times. And I would like to have some space to put souvenirs. She could have packed all that in a small carry on and be just as light and carefree in my opinion. She CHOSE a backpack which is cool. Again, whatever works for YOU.

Toiletries are more expensive outside the States, or even just at hotels, not to mention you can't bring the full-size bottles with you on the flight home. It also depends on your location, as to whether they even have the products you need.

  • The amount of clothes I take depends on how quickly things will dry. In hot climates things dry overnight easily. I prefer colder climates so take manmade fibres as they dry much faster. It is not hard to wash through your outfit at the end of the day, if necessary. The microfibre towel is also great to use when you wring out your clothes as it absorbs more water.

    • Mona Kavi Mona Kavi From my experience, I suggest that you bring very light clothes. What I mean of light clothes is that the cloth should not be that thick. Singapore is hot and very humid. The weather is usually 27-30 degree celcius. Just bring one jacket (you’re probably just gonna use it on the plane). I would also suggest you wear skirts or shorts while you go there. Pants are okay but shorts or skirt is better. Sleeveless tops would be good too. For shoes you could just bring a pair of sneakers or flats (if you’re not really gonna walk far). Hope that this could help :)

  • Burrito Baby is also known as „Ranger Roll“ or „Grunt Roll“. A variation of this is to roll your socks in with the open ends sticking outwards at either side. In the end you just pull the socks‘ open ends over each end of the whole roll so you have a sealed package that isnt going to unravel at all. Also, if you travel for a longer time, get yourself some Merino shirts. It is the most awesome stuff in the world. Breathable, light, packs down really small, dries in no time at all (useful whenever you can give them a wash in the sink or so), good for almost every weather situation. A bit on the pricy side but worth every penny. A friend of mine travelled the world for a year with just four of those - and they are still going strong. Personally I can fit a week‘s worth of clothes in a medium packing cube...but every cubic inch I save is then gobbled up by camera gear 😅

  • Another key thing when packing is to pack clothes that can be mixed and matched, things that can be worn more than once and things that are quick dry in case you end up having to wash them. That way if you are wearing an outfit and you spill something on it say your shirt you just change the shirt instead of the entire outfit and wash the shirt so that it can be used again later if it is needed. There is no reason to pack 7 pairs of pants, 14 shirts, 5 pairs of shoes, 3 pairs of pajamas and multiple dress outfits when you are only going on a trip for a week. Last time I went to Las Vegas for a week with my husband I was able to pack (using the rolling method) everything I needed for myself and my husband for the full week in a single duffel bag that was still small enough to be considered a carry on bag.
