to be honest, I was waiting for that to be number one on this countdown. Amazed it's not there. The craziest strategy of all time.
Ronda was a one trick pony but that trick was special. Still once you put fist to face she reverts hard to judo and she starts reaching and not blocking.
I honestly don’t think she was as bad as a fighter as fans today make it seem, ronda was a pretty good grappler and could compete with actual coaching but yeah TERRIBLE gameplay in her final two fights. Completely sank the ship. Got lit tf up
Well, Ronda was knocking the guys out in the gym during sparring.....so.

MMA is becoming more and more its own thing, lacking the broad training that you get in traditional martial arts. So it makes sense to try to bring something new to the table. But sometimes old senseis are just old know-it-alls, and, well, this happens.
You can add Rob's gameplan vs Izzy but it's easy to say it was the wrong gameplan having seen the result. Looking at the Kelvin fight it wud seem like a good gameplan coz Izzy had trouble handling Kelvin's aggressiveness n how fast Kelvin closed the distance.. Also Izzy didn't look good going backwards, nowhere close to how godly he looked vs Whittaker. So you can chalk it up to Rob's bad gameplan(easy to judge afterwards) but I give all the credit to Izzy's skills, adjustments and fight iq. The places where there were holes in last fight is exactly where he set traps.
The thing is Kelvin's boxing at close range is amazing and Izzy decided to use pull counters, which he figured out quickly was to his detriment, but yes Izzy did improve between the two fights which led to his impessive win
For the Kelvin fight...he goes over the fight on Kelvin's lil hop step to shorten the distance. Looking back at it, I never even noticed him do the lil hop
I agree, and especially looking at how izzy beat alex it seems like izzys camp and iq is insanely high and he sets traps well

@@joshuakehl5891 No, I'm just saying Justin would have had more success against Khabib throwing uppercuts instead of overhands. Every time he threw an overhand it was avoided by Khabib, whereas the few uppercuts Justin threw landed. Uppercuts are also useful against wrestlers.

Whittaker vs adesanya should be on this list. Storming in recklessly and headhunting the much longer decorated kickboxer who excels in countering seemed like a horrible game plan. Especially with how massive that fight was. Whittaker is a smart fighter though, I think he could make this way more competitive fight in a rematch
I agree, but in Robert's defense, that's what Gastelum did and it worked great
Could be. Gastelum felt more calculated though, in the first 2 rounds at least before they both turned it into an insane brawl. Whittaker was rushing from the start, chin up in the air
The ACTUAL issue with Gaethje’s gameplay was that him and Trevor Wittman were so worried about staying away from the fence that he gassed out in the first running around in circles.
