The gym community is (usually) pretty nice. People know how hard and challenging turning your physique around can be, so they're happy to help anybody willing to do so.

Hey, could someone check my upper body workout, please? I'm not a beginner I went to the gym when I was around 14 but I stopped after 1.5 years because I had almost no results. I now know it's because I didn't eat enough and I didn't use progressive overload. I want to start again and I made an upper body workout I will use an upper and lower split and go to the gym 4x a week. Reps: 8-12 Sets: 3 Bench Press dumbbell chest press incline Bicep Curl Tricep Curl (don't know the name of the exercise) Cable Tricep Extension Barbell bent-over row Lat pulldown Bar Dips Pullups Lateral Raises Should I add or remove any exercises? Should I change the order of the exercises? Thank you, - kzhead.inforiGTbWBVZGE (the excercise I don't know the name of you can see this youtuber doing it after the squat)
Don't be afraid to ask advice from fellow gym members, some of them may be willing to help you out with proper form
I totally would, I just dont like the people that do like 2 sets in 20 mins and camp my machines while achieving absolutely nothing.

I asked a big man who was my height aswell 6'2, im pretty lank and facing someone same height as you with more muscle mass is a devastating experience. but in reality he was very chill and gave some advice when i needed it
i started 2 weeks ago, didn't know what to do the first time, really stressed. I asked a group of people how a type of machine works for squats and they told me to join them cauz they had just started their session. They demolished my legs but....now i'm part of them, i'm so blessed and it motivates me even more, and all i want every day it's to go back to the gym to learn more, improve and have a great time with them =)
That’s so heartwarming :)
u still going? hope u are
@@jebjosh4616 ofc, i'm still going, gained, went from 59 to 67kg, never been so motivated for something in my life. I always workout with a group who are now close friends. My goal was at first 65kg, now it's 70 and then 75kg 💪
@@jebjosh4616 oh and i started to take whey protein recently when i finish my works-out only. On the side i'm trynna eat well and a lot more to bulk and eat enough protein
@@skraylers nicee I'm proud of you, got any tips for me? I'm gonna be starting to go to the gym soon and I'm tryna bulk up like 5-10 pounds
my first time I went to a gym, I was so anxious and awkward, I decided to only workout after my evening shifts at work, at 1am, so that I can be alone in the 24h gym. It took me months to gain enough confidence to go mid day. It was absolutely for no reason though. You dont need to feel bad for anything. NO ONE cares about what you do or what you look like, and i mean that in the best possible way. And if you're not sure about something, almost everyone is super kind and helpful. I promise that the buff dude lifting 200kg is one of the most down to earth helpful dude in your gym :)
It just scares me, seeing all those tiktoks of people just straight up making fun of others for their form or wichever. I honestly want to get a friend to help me start out, but not sure exactly how.
@@honkhonk8009 dw about them bro, it’s all just gym bro jokes. Trust me, I’ve lost over 70 pounds and gained a lot of lean muscle it’s worth going !!!
@@honkhonk8009 the right fitness influences are very against these types of videos. Though there are some assholes out there, they’re definitely a minority. The only people that deserve a little teasing is ego lifters who are clearly lifting too much weight for their bodies to impress people. Just learn proper form from the internet and what’s written on the machines and will be comfortable in no time at all! Just start low and slow to avoid hurting any muscles or joints!
Just go for it honestly, you can pick it up really easily. I was scared and I was walking around not knowing what to do but after watching people using the machines you can start using them. If you have a friend to go with then obviously go with them but I don’t have any friends lol
@@honkhonk8009 well then get good
I always say to people don't overstay your first visits. Don't think that you have to do long 90 minute sessions when you first start. You can start small 30 min sessions because in the long term it is the consistency that matters. You can build up session length later as going to the gym becomes more consistent.
Yep, even if youre tired and you go in for 15 mins you still went and thats what matters
@@Subsistence69 The hardest part of going to the gym..... Is actually going to the gym.
Yeah but sometimes the personal trainers there just want to burn people out, setting unrealistic routines for beginners, I hate that because people leave thinking it's a damn torture when excercise should be a vital part of your life and there's no reason you can't make it fun
@@paule.2687 I remember when I joined a gym first time. Now, to give some context out, I had always been practicing martial arts, so I wasn't sedentary and had good cardio, but I was still pretty weak, as I had never had resistance training before, and because that's my body type, really (5'7'', 120lbs). Anyway, since you adjust the weights in the machines, that was pretty ok to me, but the trainer there also gave me some routine exercises that I can't even remember now, but like, I honestly knew right off the bat I'd never be able to do that. I don't even remember it all, but let's say you just joined the gym, and to finish off your training you have to do: 1min of pushups 1min of abdominals 1min of bridge At a decent rythm, there were also some free weight exercises in the middle and some other abdominal variations, of course, I just don't remember exactly how many exercises were there, but I'd say about 7 or 8, all of that 5 times. Even if I could do it, with the amount of exercises, I believe it'd take me around 40 minutes to 1 hour, considering I maintained a decent rythm throughout all the reps Edit: Also, forgot to mention this whole part was literally only "the finishing part", by the time I got there, I had already went through a whole 40min+ training schedule on the machines and done some free weight exercises, and after that I was still meant to do some cardio before leaving I stopped going because of other reasons, but at the very least, it's not like I'd be "traumatized" by that or something, because I already had a good notion of how hard the exercises were, as I had done them before in martial arts, just not in those intensities, but I believe it could be pretty bad some other people, which honestly might not be able to do a whole set of those exercises
@@SaryM29 Now that I'm reading your comment an idea came to me, and it's that maybe some trainers do that intentionally, because gyms are a bussiness and they kinda want more people to join than people actually going, so they discourage beginners with mad routines
As a gym veteran my advices are: You will feel uncomfortable from going to the gym maximum 1 month after your first day but trust me later on you will love the fact that you didn't give up. Focus on proper form not on kgs on the machine or on the barbell. Proper form> more kgs. Before buying supplements focus on your nutritions. Very important stay hydrated! Your muscle cells are mostly glucose and water so eat healthy carbs like rice potatoes and drink as much water as possible my best advice is 35 ml per kg. The protein is very important too but be careful with the fats they are essential in a healthy meal if you don't overconsume them.
Isnt muscle made of proteins, like myosin, actin, etc etc?
I felt uncomfortable going to the gym even after 2-3 months of inconsistent sessions, at 5 months I started looking forward going to the gym and haven't stopped since
How can you focus on proper form when you don't know what proper form is. That is some Dunning-Kruger shit.
The muscle stores glycogen, which are chained glucose molecules, which is pure sugar. What makes you think the muscle cares whether you got them from white rice or table sugar? That's mostly about appetite control and nutrients. Although white rice probably doesn't contain a whole lot of that anyway. Also, drink when you're thirsty. You don't drink x ml/kg of bodyweight. It all depends on climate, activity level, metabolism etc. Larger and more active people will drink more, no surprises there.
@@Postermaestro This is the most stupid thing I have ever seen.. sorry for the proper language but I can't really.. Why do you thing people going for prep eat lean like rice potato etc.. instead of chocolate and cakes.. I mean you know what is the difference 😑😑😑😑
Now I still consider myself moderately new to the gym. I’ve been going for about 7 or 8 months now, but there’s nothing I like seeing more than beginners at the gym. It makes me so happy to know that people are taking their first steps towards gaining a new and healthier lifestyle. Most people feel the exact same way as I do. Yes there will always be some people that aren’t as nice but don’t let that discourage you. Everyone wants to see you in the gym just as much as you want to be in the gym!
This is great to hear, I’m obese and doing to the gym for the first time ever tomorrow
@@Hivdghn so great to hear man! You got this, and never forget that it’s not about where you start, it’s about where you finish. Best of luck to you on your journey
Soon I will also start my gym sessions after I have to attend a group introduction (basically a personal teacher teaches you and other people how to use this and what to think about and so on), then I will start working out!

I go late to avoid the crowd lol I hate waiting for a specific machine or barbell/bench 😹
Going to the gym the first time is like starting a new job. The first day you're just learning the layout and where everything is. I don't go in with the mindset that I'm gonna do a full workout. Anytime I've switched gyms I always do the same thing, the first time I walk in I go straight to the treadmill. This gives you time where can just look around and get a mental picture of the layout. Then I'll pick a piece of equipment that I'm familiar with and go to that so I can get a different view of the layout, then maybe I'll walk to the bathroom, then maybe to the dumbell rack, the whole time just building a picture in my mind of where all the equipment is. The purpose for me on the first day isn't to do a workout, but just to familiarize myself with the new place, then the next time I go I'll be able to have a better plan of what I'm going to do.
I started going to the gym at the start of this year and the only reason I did not go sooner was that I was scared of what people thought of me or if they were judging me. soon I saw that no one cared about what I was doing. if you are scared to because of this the feeling will go very quickly. I am now going every other day.
I remember when I was a new member, I didnt know how to do a certain workout properly, I had to ask someone and I was embarrassed when I asking but they showed me and gave me some tips. I met alot of awesome people and it was motivating.
This video came perfectly on time. I'm currently a senior in high school and I'm taking weight training for my last semester. I've been doing home workouts since I was 14, but this is much different so I'd say I'm still a noobie. Thanks for the advice picturefit and wish me luck everyone 🤞🏾
Glad it was helpful!
You can take weight training as a subject???
@@PictureFit how old would u say u should be to the first time entering a gym
Honestly this is a wonderful video. Well said mate. I've been going to the gym for years whenever I see someone new. It makes me happy to see them have the courage to start
My first time going to the gym was amazing. I felt right at home a few minutes in but only because I trained with a friend and we both had trainers that showed us everything and honestly that was one of the best things ive done in my life
great video overall, adressed all the things I was worried about/learned during my first week in the gym.
Started working out during 2016 until now and I never had a bad experience to other gym bros, they are one of the most amazing/helpful people I know. Just remember have confidence and at the same time allow yourself to learn new things!!
Love to see you posting more vids recently. Since the pandemic I got a whole home gym setup. Squat rack, bench, bar bell I can load up to 395 pounds. The one thing that going to the gym did was keep me less lazy about getting up early and do my 5am workouts. I’m just so lazy now that the convenience is there.
Love the humor in this! Great advice, too.
Love the animations!!! Been watching your videos to help me in my fitness journey!😊
Hope to be of help!
I really appreciate your new upload man (mostly because I already watch majority of you're video) and i really like that now you add more visible shadow on your character it really add life to the character And happy new years 🎉
Thanks for watching Dan Dan!
This video is just beautiful. The informations are useful and straightforward, and the animations are very cute. You talk with a calm and appreciable voice, and you are also reassuring everyone watching
Thanks to this video I got motivated Today and went straight to the gym, it was my first day in GYM today, this video really helped me, i was very worried at first of people judging me but as you explained very well in the video nobody gives a shit (except the trainer ) about you they remain pretty much busy with themselves. so that really helped, and to all the people who really wants to go to gym just go every thing is gonna be fine
had my first gym day today. im mad how accurate you were. wish i saw this video first.
The gym is a great place. I as a gym goer always smile when I see new people since it means they want to dedicate themselves to get physically better which is an awesome thing in my opinion and many other gym goers
Good video as always PictureFit! My #1 tip for beginners is to not be afraid of asking for help, or for someone to spot them! Some of the big guys with tattoos and such can be quite friendly, and they also started somewhere! ❤
The consistency 🥶
Yo guys! First day today, I have been training at a little home gym for a couple of months now and am now feeling ready( in terms of exercise selection/ form) to go! Luckily a friend of mine is already a member and we’ll go together! Cheers
Same man I’m 14 yesterday was my first day at the gym
Awesome vid Picturefit! I remember the first time I entered the gym I was scared to shlt tripped on so many things lol, love your content and love your voice!
Thanks for watching Lucifer!
Just joined a gym today! First day will be tomorrow. Thank you for this helpful video! I cannot wait!
I’ve been working out for about one and a half years now and I were so uncomfortable working out without a friend in the beginning that it took me about 5-6 months to workout by my self, I always had to have my gymbro with me and now, about a year later, I almost feel more focused and and motivated working out by myself
Thanks for this! It’s my first day at the gym tomorrow. I’m lucky to have my older bro come with me for the first few weeks. Nervous but excited!
Wow I'm really glad your back your videos are nourishing to my brain cells
I joined a gym few days ago, the first day was pretty hard but as it progressed it got better because the people are so supportive and they all are very nice of course there are some as*holes but ignoring them is your best option. And do not feel intimidated because everyone is there and putting efforts to improve their life and feel free to ask a gym bro for help because that's actually how I made friends. Now I LOVE GOING TO THE GYM...WE GOOOO JIMMMM
I remember being a child joining my mother going to the gym and being so intimidated by all the machines and the big weights and if I had to be honest the hardcore grammas and grandpas. After a year later of training in the basement quite literally I visited again. I was nervous as hell but eventually it just got easier of course it never went away fully. And even after getting comfortable it was super intimidating going to a new gym. No matter how much progress or familiar I got with weights and some Machine it was always hard going into a new gym even if I now have worked out for at least 2 years. I’m no senior in the gym but I liked the friendly community and the most fit people in the gym in my experience was always so nice and respectful
I went to the same gym for 3 years. The only time I was judged was after I got results. No one knew I existed until I was 170 pounds leaner and warming up with more than bodyweight exercises. Then I left due to my gym being overly crowded lounge area. With my new found confidence I financed a home gym where I repeated my routine that worked for me without a membership to pay or travel to commit too.
Today was actually my first day at the gym, I walked in thinking people would laugh at me because of how young I am going to the gym but to my surprise, no one cared! Everyone just minded their business and their workout and you were totally right that everyone is to worried about their own booties to judge me.
This video just motivated me to go to the gym for the first time at age 24. Loved it, will do it again. Thanks!
Wow thanks man for your advices 👍🏻❤️
My number 1 best advice for someone going to the gym who is afraid, go in the morning. In the morning is when all the older people are there, and the people who take the gym seriously. If you go after work at 5 to 8pm is when you'll see the "bros" the instagram girls, etc and for those few hours it's a madhouse. Also if you see an adult who is clearly an advanced lifter, don't look at them and be intimidated. Odds are they are the nicest guy in the gym and would help you with any questions you have.
It’s crazy this was in my recommended, cuz I just went to the gym for the first time a couple days ago 🤭 & yup, based on my experience everything this guy says hits the nail on the head 😆 Also, maybe grab a buddy to show u the ropes the first time or 2 cuz I wouldn’t have known how to safely use equipment or get the best out of the workout without my mom there 😗
Thanks for taking the time to watch!
@@PictureFit thanks for makin quality content!
You actually hit a good amount of information at the end that a lot of people neglect. They thing you NEED to take protein powder and pre workout. They are just supplements. You can consume the right amount of protein just from your diet if you have an understanding of nutrition and know what your protein intake should be
Can dive in those in the future for sure.
thank you. i needed this
People are so helpful and non judgmental. I’ve been for four months now. I’m so proud of myself. I feel more energetic.
Damn....i remember throwing up a lot the first month or so...........took some time for the body to get used to the training.........thanks for the trip down memory lane
I have been watching Jeff Nippard, shredded sports science, and other fitness channels for quite some time. I have been going to the gym for about a year and a half and I still look like a fool sometimes. It just happens. You shouldn’t let yourself be bothered by the idiots that will judge you.
I started on June 14th 2022 and i stayed in the cardio area for almost a month. I was extremely intimidated and i had no confidence. But after a while i started doing 30 minutes of weightlifting and 30 minutes of cardio. The problem was that i was limiting my time in certain areas. I went through different techniques and time arrangements until i found the best one for me. Don't worry about the time you're spending at the gym unless you're resting for an unnecessary amount of time between sets. I spend an average of 2 hours in the gym now, all of that is weightlifting but i do my cardio at home, that being walking and swimming. If you are new to going to the gym, just know that you will want to quit, but it requires lots of dedication and discipline to keep going. Remember why you started and keep that in mind.
good timing, gonna go to the gym next week since I want to make my progress more consistent. My goal is to improve my strength to be able to progress a sport such as parkour or martial arts tricking, I'm not here for health and looks necessarily. 2 years ago I've been to the gym for 2 months, I wish I would've started doing parkour around that time since I had a lot of strength. My biggest challenge rn is finding a workout program, I need to prioritize lower body more than anything, since tricking is a lower-body dominant sport and in parkour, I'll need to take on impact more than climb on stuff. I still need upper body strength tho. I am also slightly scared on figuring out how to use the barbell for squats or deadlifts, since when I was at the gym, I only did machine stuff, dumbbell stuff and the barbell bench press and that's it.
This comment is to mark 1 month of my gym journey… Thanks to your video which helped me to deal with the anxiety and my second time attempt of going to the gym seems successful 🥺💪
The thing is, when it come to fitness don’t be scared to ask for help or questions. Because everybody in the fitness world knows every about everything in the fitness world
Can you do a video on plant based diets, for muscle growth, and also for athletic performance? I like your no bias views and use of multiple sources. It would be very interesting to see :) love the vids
Thanks for the Video! Will have my first day tomorrow and this really helps ✌
how was it king ?
Thank you all this help I not have much confidence so thank you again
I so far love the gym community really much. Only people that have started speaking to me or look at me were trying to improve my training by telling me how to do my workout better
Wholesome take. Thanks again for good content!
Thanks for the nice words Tony!
One thing that I think the video missed is to remind people that the gym is not only for the looks. I first started the gym to have a healthier life and fix my knee. 1y later and I'm still going on strong, went for a healthy lifestyle and stayed for all the benefits it brought me (trust me, the mindset changes not only your body but your life as a whole, for the better). If you're a beginner, keep it up! The best step is always the one that gets you out of the couch
well said
when first starting its always good to get a gym bro it do be great motivation
i went to the gym for the first time and alot of people from my school go there (its a small town aswell) so i was soooooo nervous my legs were shaking when i was walking to the door but as soon as i finsihsed my work out i felt so good and i went back the next day less nervous but still nervous but im a lot less nervous all i do is just follow my routine don't look at anyone and get out.
thanks for this it really helps
*as an advanced lifter i wud advice beginner to start with the bench ,squat, and deadlift. and practice doing them in excellent form. weight does not matter. form and execution matters more. the weight will come just be patient. its a marathon not a sprint. stay consistent and work hard.*
Tomorrow's gonna be my first day, I finally feel confident enough to go to the gym. I've been fighting social anxiety for quite a long time now and I'm proud with what I've achieved so far, I'm nervous but positive it'll be great.

Great work man, I joined 4 months ago and it's so great, just make sure YOU enjoy it so you will continue :)
Hello! What’s ur progress like now? Does the uncomfortableness go away eventually? I’m thinking of starting my gym journey soon!
Just got back from my first day at the gym, it was amazing
My first experience was in weight training, really just messing around, then slowly in the semester I start going everyday, not just every A day for class, this eventually got me into powerlifting and Have yet to take a massive break from it besides deloads. When I take a deload now it sucks because all I wanna do is crank out some heavy deadlift singles.
I've been to a public gym a grand total of 1 time, it wasn't all that bad. Got a full rack & weights at home now though, and I couldn't imagine going back to a gym (unless at a hotel on an extended vacation).
i got my membership today :D will go later tonight at like 2 am, bc i wanna memorize the layout and understand stuff w/o having to wait for other ppl
2am? I'd be too sleepy
Another tip, is to always clean the sweat after a workout and carry a towel with you if you tend to sweat a lot during your routine. No one wants to see your mark on a bench
or use cleaning stations already provided there
Yes!! I just saw Hamilton at the theater today! Great idea!

I’m on my second month of the gym in planet fitness. Im also eating much healthier! Went from 160 LBS to 156. Perfect gym for a beginner and i hope to upgrade my gym eventually to something more. 😈
OMG i remember the first day i went to the gym i didn't have a water bottel i was so anxious that i left after 10 minutes crying but tbh everyone was minding their own business like omg why was i so worried
Not new to the gym but this was entertaining to watch👍

As someone who survived their first January in the gym it honestly makes me laugh when I think back to a month ago when I was too embarrassed to touch even a machine. Your experience might not be the same or have been the same but it was only the first few times I went that it felt scary but by at least the fifth time there i was doing everything even the free weights without being nervous
Bless bro
Excellent video, earnt urself a subscriber
Oh yea I can totally agree with the second point. I wasn’t confident enough to use freeweights. I only used machines for like the first 4 months I was too afraid of doing something wrong. Didn’t even bench press. Now I am almost one year in and sooo close to hitting 225 on bench
Today`s gonna be my first day , pretty nervous...but I feel a lot better after this video ,AND PLEASE, DONT STOP MOTIVATING US!💪
never back down ! never give up ! 💪💪
The gym are filled with understanding and nice people! Yet there may be some rare encounters of bad vibes. But believe me that you guys are going to be okay! The biggest step to overcome is the first day going! Once you accomplish that, everything else will fall in place 🙏🏽 if you want to get more familiar with the equipment, then do what i did on my first few weeks! (Go after 11 PM OR 12 AM) where there’s BARLEY anyone at the gym and you have so much to mess around with! It’s a great experience and it will help your mind! Don’t think about what others might be thinking of you because 9/10 people are more worried about themselves and that 1 from the 10 is finding you attractive and checking you out lmao also don’t be afraid to ask for tips! Especially from bigger people! They are the best and believe it or not they are more than willing to help! Go in there with confidence and focus on YOU queens and kings! 🙏🏽💪🏽 make those gains!
If I ever see a fat person at the gym, why would I judge? That's amazing! That's so positive and encouraging to see
Being able to actually get near any equipment or weights would have been nice in my gym, alas it was always rammed when I had time to go so I quit and have been doing home workouts lately. So much nicer lol, but I do miss the hypothetical option of heavier weights and more space.
A Planet Fitness is opening in my town soon and it's right by the GameXChange and the mexican restaurant and thing is that its less than a mile away so I can take a 17 minute walk, my guess is that it will be open in a couple months and when it opens I'm getting the black card membership and imma go almost every day
I remember my first time going to the gym, i accadenly used a 22.5 and a 25 for bicep curls 😂
I'm letting the ads play for you. I'm still so happy you are back!
Can you talk about sauna after a workout? love your vids
Plz uploading a video each month to tell us you r alive..... And yes.. happy new year
